Objective • Fung Kai school group wants to install a video surveillance network in their 5 school campuses and surrounding areas to provide safe campus to students • They will deploy a wireless mesh network solution as backbone to connect all the surveillance cameras • The wireless mesh network needs to be resilient with self-recovery functionality • The throughput should be large enough to support all the cameras now and expansion in future P2 Wireless Technologies Limited -- Confidential
Challenge • The 5 school campuses cover a very large area of 100,000 sq. m • There is no cabling between the school campuses • The exact site location may change often at the last minute due to changing user requirement in camera location • There are NLOS blockage between the school building rooftops • Need to deploy the network in short time to minimize the influence to teaching and activities P2 Wireless Technologies Limited -- Confidential

A 5-hop wireless mesh ring is built on rooftops of 4 school campuses as backbone using X20 Site 5 is a relay-site to overcome the non-line-of-sight blockage between sites 4 and 6 6 cameras are connected to the X20 initially Total mesh ring throughput is designed to be 300 Mbps UDP, enough for future expansion up to 20 cameras Cameras can be added anywhere at AP along the mesh ring Mesh link redundancy and auto-recovery features are incorporated for highly resilient network structure Gigabit PoE+ 4-port switch will be used to power both AP and camera.
