1 Introduction PuriTeam FTP Catalox Series water filtration systems employ multiple stage filtering that provides the highest quality iron, manganese and sulfur reduction available. Additionally, no harmful contaminants are discharged into sewer or septic systems to contribute to pollution of water sources and cause down-stream ecological problems. Note: If hydrogen sulfide is present in a well, it is strongly recommended to chlorinate the well immediately before installation of the FTP System. Let the chlorinated water run into the pipes in the home and sit for several hours to eliminate sulfur odor that may have built up. Alternatively, this procedure can be performed after installation, if necessary, by putting the FTP System into by-pass. If sulfur bacteria are present, a chlorinator may need to be installed to facilitate the FTP’s performance. Information may be obtained through PuriTeam.

2 Precautions Read these instructions before initiating installation: • Install on cold water line only. • Protect unit from freezing. • Install unit only in systems where line pressure does NOT exceed 100 psi bar). • Use Teflon tape for thread sealing. Do NOT use pipe dope. • Use only warm, soapy water to clean outside of tank. Do NOT use chemical or abrasive cleaners.

3 System Unpacking 1. If damage is apparent, report damages to shipping carrier immediately. 2. With all system components out of their cartons, inventory items received. Verify the following: • Mineral Tank w/ riser tube and cap inside, distributor plate at bottom (see pictures below) and small cap (small cap is used to cover the riser tube while filling the tank with media).
• Fleck Pro Flo SE Control Valve (next page)
2
• Back of valve
• Top Basket (locks onto bottom of control valve)
• Funnel (next page)
3
• Garnet media (salt & pepper (or deep purple) color gravel) • Catalox media (fine, black color, may be more than one box depending on unit size) • Roll of Drain-line tubing
3. If an item appears to be missing, contact PuriTeam before proceeding.
4 Pre – Planning Considerations While the house already has an in-house master water shut-off valve, it may not be in a location convenient to the intended location of the water filtration system. The bypass valve installed on the Control Valve facilitates servicing the tank media. Plumbing parts such as additional valves, piping, couplings, adapters, etc., may be desirable or even required by the plan of the specific installation. Hardware not shipped with the product, is subject to local purchase by the customer. The installation should be in a location that is level, not in direct sunlight, and in close proximity (within 20 ft.) to an open-type drain that can accept a water flow rate of 3 to 7 gal./min. and a total volume of 30-50 gallons during a single backwash cycle. The system backwashes itself every few days (set during installation). A washing machine drain or a floor drain can be used, or since the PuriTeam FTP systems do not discharge any harmful contaminants, it is also acceptable to use a drywell or lawn/garden saturator. A nearby (within 15’) 110Vac power source is also required.
4
Component Identification The following is shipped with all systems. Yours may vary slightly depending on your size connections.
5 Pre-installation Tank Preparation To prevent damage during shipment, the tank filter material is shipped separately from the tank. A funnel is provided for use filling the tank with media at time of installation. 1. Place main tank on firm flat surface in vertical orientation (open end up), and secure to prevent tipping. 2. Riser tube arrives in tank securely affixed to bottom to tank. If riser tube is not securely locked in place, please call us immediately. There can be some movement side to side, like a swiveling motion, but you should not be able to remove it from bottom of tank. 4. Insert small cap (supplied), into top end of riser tube.
Note: Do not force cap fully into tube. The cap functions only to prevent filter material from entering tube when tank is being filled, and must be removed when filling process has been completed. If cap has been forced into tube it can be difficult to remove, which may result in tube becoming dislodged from bottom of tank during removal. (If cap is
5
unavailable, affix tape across riser tube opening.) 5. Position funnel in tank opening.
6. Pour all garnet into tank. 7. Pour all Catalox media into tank, taking care to minimize the creation of Catalox dust. 8. Gently rock tank back and forth slightly to level media in tank, and assure riser tube is still centered in top of tank. 9. Remove funnel from tank and small cap from riser tube, taking care to NOT pull up on riser tube, and safely store funnel and cap for future use in tank maintenance.
10. Assure top basket (above) is securely locked on bottom of control valve, and position on tank so riser tube inserts into cone. 11. Screw head securely into tank. Note: Use silicon-based lubricant (or vegetable oil) on the o-ring and be sure the riser tube fits tightly inside the diffuser cone port (if not, contact PuriTeam before continuing). Hand tighten only, as much as possible. 12. Measure height of tank, from bottom of tank to center of

port marked “upflow inlet” on tank distributor head. Record measurement as height and retain for future use. Height:______________
6 Installation Instructions Location of installation must be within 20’ of a suitable drain and within 15’ of a 110Vac power source. 1. Locate Inlet and Outlet arrows stamped onto outer side of each valve port on bypass valve (see Figure 1 on page 2). Note: It is imperative that the water flows in the proper direction through the system. The inward pointing arrow indicates the Inlet flow to the system. Likewise, the outward pointing arrow indicates the Outlet flow to the house. These ports may be further identified with “Raw” (inlet) and “Treated” (outlet). 2. Install by-pass onto control valve. 3. Turn-off water line shut-off valve, and open available faucets to relieve pressure and drain water from pipes. 4. Cut cold water pipe on house side of water meter in metered system, or on house side of shut-off valve in private system. Note: Remove sufficient piping from water line, consistent with system planning, to permit insertion of water filtering system. Extended piping from supply line and from house water pipes should terminate at height recorded in step 12 of Section 5, with adapters that facilitate direct connection to the bypass valve. 5. Extend water supply piping, if necessary, from point at which water source line was cut to inlet side of location in which water filtering system is to be installed. Note: Maintain slope of ¼ in/ft upward from water source on pipe extensions (or IAW local plumbing code, if different), and end pipe extension horizontally at height recorded in step 12 of Section 5 above. 6. Install appropriate adapter (local purchase) on end of extended water supply line, to connect to installation fitting (see Figure 3) on water Inlet (Raw) side of bypass valve. 7. Extend house water piping, if necessary, from point at which house water pipe was cut to outlet side of location in which water filtering system is to be installed. Note: Maintain slope of ¼ in/ft downward toward water filter on pipe extensions (or IAW local plumbing code, if different), and end pipe extension horizontally at height recorded in step 12 of Section 5 above.
7
8. Install appropriate adapter (local purchase) on end of extended house water piping, to connect to installation fitting (see Figure 3 on page 2) on water Outlet (Treated) side of bypass valve. 9. Connect drain line to fitting on top of housing behind control valve. Apply Teflon tape as thread sealant on fitting. Note: If installing flexible ½” drain line tubing, use the ½” barbed fitting that has been equipped with the system. If installing ½” rigid pipe drain line, use a ½” PVC male adapter fitting in place of the barbed fitting. 10. Connect Inlet and Outlet fittings on bypass valve to adapters on extended water supply line and house piping to close water system. 11. Secure drain line to firm surface at termination, and also at tank end if desired. Note: Plumbing codes require a properly air-gapped connection between the drain line and the drain. The distance between the drain line and the drain must be at least 1 ½”. An air gap provides security against the possibility of a cross-connection between the freshwater and wastewater systems. Special air-gap connectors are available through your dealer. 12. Continue to Section 7.
7 Installation Check 1. Set valves on Bypass to bypass position.
Set to bypass
2. With all faucets and other water outlets in the house closed, open master house water shut-off valve to pressurize system. 3. Slowly open any faucet to allow trapped air to escape, then close faucet to allow water system to maximize pressure. 4. Verify no water leaks from filter system installation as well as from any newly installed associated plumbing.

11. Push Next button to return to normal operation. 12. Run water at all faucets to purge system of any residual air.
9 Start-up Procedure 1. With control valve plugged into 110Vac receptacle and power on, assure control valve is in bypass mode. 2. Press and hold Regen button for 3 seconds to initiate REGENERATION. 3. Slowly open bypass valve to let tank fill with water at rate of approximately 1-gallon per minute, to purge unit of air. 4. Open bypass valve completely, as soon as there is all water and no air being discharged from drain line. 5. Allow unit to run through REGENERATION cycle (approx. 20 minutes). Unit returns to normal operation at end of cycle. Note: The initial water to drain may be black or gray, as a result of carbon dust from the media. This is normal, is to be expected, and is no cause for alarm. 6. Repeat steps 2 and 5, as necessary, until water to drain is clear. Note: The system may need to be run through several REGENERATION cycles to fully flush the media clean. 7. Run water at closest sink to verify water is clear.
