TaikaBox – Beyond the Body – technical specifications – international performances the show needs a stage space of at least 7m deep and 8m wide, plus wing space. the stage should be black – preferably dance lino -‐ covered with an area of white dance lino (3 x 2m strips at 8m long, laid across stage to create a 6m x 8m surface, or 4 x 1.6m strips plus a strip of black to mask the .4m off the upstage edge to make a 8m x 6m projection screen.) we will need a white cyc hanging upstage, masked to 8m wide by 6m high, with space for 5 cyc floods on the floor behind it. it should have hard masking at the base if this looks best. we will also need a hazer or smoke machine that we can run before the show, and trigger towards the end. if you have a hazer that has no DMX control, we could run a power cable from my control position in the wings and I can switch it on. we need a projector – at least 5,000 lumens, with 0.8 lens, hanging in the grid above the centre of the dancefloor. If the bar it is hanging on is at 7m, then a 4:3 image will fill the white dance lino perfectly. we will bring a short throw projector for projection onto the cyc – we will need to hang this from a bar 4m downstage from the cyc. this bar should be flown at 5m. If the Cyc is too close to the upstage edge of the white dance lino, the overhead projector may need to be rigged slightly downstage of centre – this is due to the other projector casting a shadow if it is too close. this results in a need for keystone correction, which, in turn, leads to a need to mask the floor slightly for the image to fit. we will bring all cabling for the projectors, an infrared camera to hang next to the overhead projector and a kinect camera to position downstage centre on the floor. I will need an operating position in the wings to run the video, and will need a small table to place my laptops and a mixer on. communication via cans to the LX desk from this position is essential. a minimum of 2 technicians is required for get-‐in and set-‐up. ideally 2 x LX and 1 x sound. usually, we will not require any help during dress run and performance. music is from 2 musicians – drummer and trumpet player. they will be positioned offstage and/or downstage, we will arrange this when we arrive at the theatre. here is their tech spec: the venue will need to source a basic drum kit:– Kit should be new /modern and in good condition. Standard sizes (not 'power'). Heads -‐ coated single ply. Double headed toms. Bass drum, snare, rack tom, floor tom, drum seat (fully adjustable), bass drum pedal, snare stand, hi hat stand, 2 x boom cymbal stands, 2 x straight cymbal stands, drum carpet + 2 x small tables 50cm high we will bring cymbals, sampler, rototoms and octopad Channel list -‐ D.I. x 2 for trumpet Drum kit -‐ bass drum / snare / rack tom / floor tom / 2 x rototoms. Preferred mic setup – bass drum/snare drum and 2 x overheads. D.I. X 2 for sampler (stereo) – by drums.
Power and PA requirements: 240v ac power in musician area for drum electronics and trumpet effects board. Monitor wedges x 2 with independent mixes. plus a FOH feed onto stage monitors for the dancers. there is a generic lighting plan which will be sent out by our LX technician, who will be overseeing the focus and responsible for the plotting and operating of the show. He would like to operate LX and sound from the rear of the auditorium -‐ if possible -‐ rather than in a control room. a pre-‐rig is not essential as there are only 7 or 8 lanterns in the grid, but it is always welcomed. we would like to burn some Japanese (low-‐smoke) incense on stage during the preset. is this ok? we will need at least 2 dressing rooms. ideal tech schedule: 9am – get-‐in and measure up 10am – rig overhead lighting and projectors, focus main projector, mark out floor 11.30am – focus overhead LX, rig booms and cyc floods 1pm – focus booms and cyc floods 2pm – lay floor and set up musicians kit 3pm – plot lighting and soundcheck as dancers warm up on stage 4pm – cue to cue tech run 5.30pm – dress run 6.30pm -‐ notes and break 7.30pm -‐ performance 8.35pm – end of show, strike colour, projectors and floor 9.20pm – get out contact: John Collingswood –
