technical furniture Te c h C a r t TechCarts are shipped assembled and will require minimal final assembly. To guard against shipping damage, accessories such as keyboard platforms are always shipped unassembled. Read and carefully follow the installation steps in sequence, skipping sections that do not apply to your configuration. TECHCART FRAME ASSEMBLY Please note that the TechCart feet are perforated with several mounting holes. This enables the TechCart frame to be assembled to the feet in several different positions depending on the desired configuration. Refer to the diagrams in figure 1 to determine the appropriate position for your frame. TechCart frame TechCart frame IMPORTANT: To ensure a stable configuration, the TechCart frame must be positioned on the feet so that none of the worksurfaces or shelves extend beyond the end of the feet. 1. Remove the plastic upright covers from the cart frame. To remove, push on the inside of the cover through the cable access hole at the bottom of the upright. See figure 2. 2. Assemble the frame to the feet using two 5/16”-18 x 1.00” allen socket head cap screws and six 5/16”- 18 elastic stop nuts. Refer to figure 2. BOTTOM SHELVES 1. For each bottom shelf, attach four brackets to the bottom cross channel and feet of the TechCart frame. Use one 1/4” x 1/2” hex head self tapping screws for each bracket. See figures 3a and 3b. Bottom shelf brackets Bottom shelves 2. Attach the bottom shelves to the brackets using #10 x 3/4” phillips pan head wood screws. See figures 3a and 3b. SHELVES AND WORKSURFACES 18” deep shelf Shelves and worksurfaces are available in several different sizes and configurations. The 18” deep shelf is unique in that it has the ability to incline up or down 15 or 30 degrees. See figure 4. 1. Determine the location of the shelf or worksurface. (Some of the worksurfaces are designed to be mounted on top of the TechCart frame. The brackets for these surfaces are notched to clear around the top channel of the frame. The decorative top caps must be removed from the uprights.) Install the appropriate quantity of plastic grommets, one for each hole in the mounting bracket, into the square holes in the uprights. See figure 5. Front stop 18” deep shelf (15° incline) #10AB x 1-3/4” phillips pan head thread forming 2. Attach the brackets to the uprights using 1/4” x 5/8” screws phillips pan head self tapping screws (quantity varies). See figure 5. 3. Position the shelf (or worksurface) onto the brackets. Align the holes in the shelf with those in the brackets. (Some shelves have pre-drilled mounting holes for keyboard support platforms. The keyboard holes should be oriented towards the front of the cart.) Secure the shelf with #10 x 3/4” phillips pan head wood screws (quantity varies). See figure 5. 18” deep shelf (30° incline) Figure 4 Keyboard platform mounting holes (underside, toward front of cart) 18” INCLINE SHELF 1. Refer to figure 4 to determine the appropriate bracket holes to use to incline the 18” deep shelf. Assemble the shelf to the cart as described in the previous section. 2. When inclined, it is recommended that a Front Stop be used at the front of the 18” deep shelf. Pilot holes are pre-drilled into the bottom of the shelf. Using a 7/32” dia. drill bit, drill the pilot holes completely through the shelf. See figure 4. 3. Attach the front stop to the shelf with #10AB x 1-3/4” phillips pan head thread forming screws (quantity varies depending on shelf width). See figure 4. POWER STRIP BRACKET The Power Strip Bracket can be assembled to the bottom of the TechCart frame or to the upright. Route cords through the cable access holes in the upright to reach the outlet strip. See figure 6. The power strips can also be attached to the underside of any shelf or worksurface without the bracket. Assemble the rails to the TechCart frame uprights using plastic grommets and 1/4” x 5/8” phillips pan head self tapping screws. The quantity of screws required depends on the rail height. See figure 7. 19” Rack mount Figure 7 86306 5 Te c h C a r t technical furniture ( c o n t . ) F. LOCKING COMPARTMENT 1. Assemble one Locking Compartment Bracket to each TechCart upright using two plastic grommets and two 1/4” x 5/8” phillips pan head self tapping screws for each bracket. NOTE: Assemble the brackets to the forward set of mounting holes. The top of the brackets must be at least 1-5/8” from the top horizontal member of the TechCart frame. See figure 8. Locking Compartment 2. Install eight #8AB x 1/2” long phillips head self tapping screws into each End Panel as shown in figure 8. Leave the screws protruding approximately 1/8” as shown. TechCart frame 3. Assemble one End Panel to each Bracket using two 1/4”-20 x 1.00” long button head cap screws for each panel. NOTE: Use the forward set of holes in the End Panels. Position the compartment’s Top Panel onto the three top screws in each End Panel and then tighten the screws. See figure 10. End panel 6. Position the compartment’s Rear Panel onto the two rear screws in each End Panel and then tighten the screws. See figure 11. 7. Lay the pre-assembled Door Panel onto the top of the Locking Compartment. Position the door’s hinge leafs as shown in figure 12 . Assemble the hinges to the top of the compartment with six #8AB x 1/2” long phillips head self tapping screws. Ensure that the edges of the door are properly aligned with the compartment’s Side Panels. Adjust as required.
