Capabilities Of Equipment dTective is a field tested commercially available Forensic Image and Video Processing solution that balances power with ease of use. This turnkey solution is a combination of hardware and software for processing, analyzing, and managing multi-media evidence. Regardless of the format of your evidence dTective provides you the appropriate tools and workflow to clarify and output your evidence. Analog Tape Evidence: When provided an analog tape, dTective™ allows you to capture an uncompressed copy of your original evidence so you are always processing the best quality evidence available. Once captured, simply de-multiplex the video with dPlex Pro to isolate the individual cameras, then clarify the footage using the dTective video filters such as dVeloper™ or process individual image(s) using the Ocean Systems Clear ID™ image clarification filters. Proprietary CCTV DVR Files: Ocean Systems was first to market with many forensic tools including the first universal process for processing digital DVR CCTV files. Using DVR dCoder the analyst can capture proprietary media files and save them as industry standard uncompressed QuickTime video file or uncompressed image files such as TIFF. If the analyst is simply looking to clarify an image such as a license plate, they can take the image(s) directly into the Ocean Systems Clear ID™ filters for processing. Once processed, they can output or print the still image evidence for distribution. Still Images: If your evidence originates as a still image, such as a camera picture, simply process the image(s) in their native resolution using the Clear ID™ filters. Managing and Presenting Your Evidence: The dTective™ solution includes the Avid Technology industry standard video and audio editing environment. While many investigators will simply want to grab a still from video, clarify it and print it, others will need to process and present it as video evidence. The video environment can do the following: Index and annotate video with case notes, play time-lapse video at normal speed, stabilize unsteady surveillance video, track images or a suspect in a large crowd, output to a variety of formats. This includes tape or digital video for CD, DVD or Web, including but not limited to MPEG-1, MPEG-2, Real Media and Microsoft ASF. These video files can also be included in online databases for access by detectives in a police department or published to interactive CD-ROMs for disclosure and court presentation purposes. dPlex®Pro™: dPlex®Pro is a universal de-multiplexer that allows the user to sort an unlimited number of cameras views in a single pass. Once dPlex Pro has converted the multiplexed video into de-multiplexed video, it's easy to evaluate your video evidence. dPlex Pro also allows you to easily arrange the camera views by importance, allowing you to focus your efforts and evaluate your video evidence more quickly. Camera views can then be saved as individual de-multiplexed video clips or saved in a "matrix" allowing the analyst to view up to 16 cameras simultaneously, providing the ability to quickly track suspect movements from camera to camera. dVeloper™: Crucial details can be hidden in noisy or dark video. dVeloper™ uses a ‘frame averaging’ process that utilizes information available in a range of video frames instead of attempting to process only a single frame. When dealing with color video, details are often more prevalent in one color than another. With dVeloper, it's easy to isolate the video color space that holds the most valuable information and adjust brightness, contrast and gamma. With the click of the mouse, dVeloper compensates for the poorly exposed video to reveal the details in your evidence. DVR dCoder™: Simply play the digital surveillance file and allow DVR dCoder to capture the video. This captured footage is a duplicate of the original file in an uncompressed digital format. Once captured, import the media into your dTective system for further examination Spotlight™: Spotlight is a quick and easy to use dTective module that allows the analyst to select a region of video to highlight or blur. An area of video can be highlighted to track object(s) or person(s) or it can be used to blur or block out sensitive information such as the faces of undercover operators or license plates. Multiple targets can be highlighted or blurred at the same time. Magnifi™: Portions of an image can be to clarify the result. A moving target can be tracked; stabilized and magnified allowing the analyst to hold the target in an enlarged portion of the video while the untouched exhibit plays in the background. Clear ID™: Clear ID™ ™ is a suite of more than 20 digital image clarification filters that are powerful, easy to use, and non-destructive to your original evidence. With integrated color preview windows and easy-to-use slider bars, Clear ID™ allows you to quickly discover the optimal settings for clarifying your digital-image evidence. There is no need to manually record your settings because Clear ID™ does it for you automatically. When processing an image, Clear ID™ will open an exact copy of the image so you protect your original evidence. You can then safely process the image. Once you have achieved the desired results your settings and history are recorded so you can reproduce the same results if needed. Regardless of where the images originate, be it proprietary DVR CCTV digital video files, analog video, or images that you scanned, Clear ID™ is where they should end up if you are looking to unlock your hidden evidence. Clear ID™ filters include: Fourier\Frequency Filters: Fourier image processing works in the frequency domain rather then the pixel domain. This allows us to do image processing in a much more efficient manner. Previous attempts at working in the frequency domain required the user to have a strong math background to properly understand the process. With Clear ID™, those concepts have been integrated into a few slider bars that allow the user to make adjustments and see the effects of changing the settings. Interactive Deblur – includes Lens Deblur, Motion Deblur, Focus Deblur. Ultimate Sharpener - normalizes the brightness in an image and increases the contrast at the same time. Sub filters: Enhance Edges, Edge Emphasis, Reduce Dynamic Range, Effect Opacity Interactive Pattern Remover - Simply select the background pattern you want removed and pattern remover does the rest. Pattern remover is an automated process with interactive sliders and real time preview so you can see the effects of your adjustments as you make them. This automated pattern remover also works in color. Sub filters: Low Frequency Cutoff, Threshold, and Notch. Freq. Filters - Allows the user to generate their own masks in the frequency domain. Filters include: Butterworth 2nd Order, Low Pass & High Pass, Frequency Cutoff, Band pass, Low Frequency Limit & High Frequency Limit, Directional mask, Wedge-Width Image Adjustment: Color Safe Levels, Color Safe Curves, Adaptive Equalization, And Local Equalization Noise Removal: JPEG Cleaner - reduces the block artifacts that JPEG compression can cause. Frame Averaging - allows the user to perform frame averaging over many frames, currently up to 32,767 images. Universal Noise Remover (8 different filters): Average Blur, Gaussian Blur, Non - Edge Blur, Conditional Smooth, Classical Median, Hybrid Median, Vertical Filter 3 & 5, Effect Opacity (%) Sharpening: Detail Sharpener, Edge Enhancer Advanced\Utility: Checksum, Image Math, Custom Matrix Convolution Ocean Systems dTective video and audio editing environment is powered by Avid Xpress Pro HD. It is easy to manage and organize visual evidence and create a searchable database of thousands of suspects, gang affiliation, weapons and events in preparation for forensic examination. Capturing uncompressed still images from video evidence for disclosure purposes or for inclusion in wanted posters and intelligence bulletins is simple. A single image or thousands of consecutive still images can be exported from the video evidence to more than two dozen common digital file formats. dTective™ also provides up to 24 video tracks enabling multi-camera sync or multiplex overlay for demanding and complex analysis projects. Turns time-lapse surveillance video into real time video. By entering the actual incident time, Motion Effect automatically calculates the percentage the time-lapse video needs to be adjusted and instantly converts it into real time. Image Resize provides highly stable zooms. Picture-in-Picture offers side-by-side comparison of two images or video sequences. Color Correction, Slow Motion, Image Stabilization and a host of other advanced video imaging utilities enhance the analyst's experience when processing surveillance video. dTective™ operates on a non-proprietary platform using industry-standard hardware which supports the AVX architecture for third-party development. This ensures that the analyst can take advantage of advances in technology as they occur. The system is modular and upgradeable. dTective™ offers the video analyst a choice of digitizing modes ranging from the of uncompressed (ITU601 standard) capture to DV-25, an expanding standard for acquisition of video evidence among law enforcement surveillance specialists. The Bin architecture provides powerful visual database capabilities. Any thumbnail may be played back in realtime directly from the bin. The user may instantly go to the first or last frame of any thumbnail in the bin, mark in or out points on the thumbnail, and edit the thumbnail directly to the timeline. Exhibit assets can be searched in a database format tagged by category or gang affiliation, suspect description, incident number, agency, suspect name, investigator, or any other user-defined criteria. As the digitizing process is engaged, dTective™ automatically creates a database on which the user can perform sort, sift and search functions. The user may customize this database to include columns with custom data. The database automatically logs the exact date and time an exhibit is entered into the system and tracks any modifications. Each text entry in the database can be displayed and printed with clip frames of video for easy reference. This database can be exported to industry-standard databases and spreadsheet applications via tab-delimited ASCII text. By combining industry-standard color measurement tools with Avid Color Correction, the surveillance video can be calibrated to accurately reproduce the original colors for identification purposes. Color Correction can also be applied to black-and-white video to accurately and reliably correct for gray scale errors in the original video images. dTective™ provides 32 levels of UNDO and REDO as well as a user-definable AutoSave function which automatically stores the present sequence in a folder called "the Attic" for retrieval should power fail or the decision be made to revert to an earlier version of the investigation project. The Undo/Redo List enables precision in tracking changes and reverting back to previous versions. Upon completion of an investigation, dTective™ allows the user to discard any video clips that are no longer needed and Consolidates the completed analysis project to a single disk drive. This allows the user to conserve disk space and consequently reduce storage costs associated with computer hard drives. No other system offers the media/storage management tools that are standard on all dTective™ systems. dTective™ also provides a grease pencil (locator) allowing the operator to mark and annotate specific locations on the video for future reference. Locators offer the analyst immediate interactive case notes that can be quickly printed and include automatic time and date stamp information, notes and images. The included Timecode AVX plug-in allows the forensic video analyst to timestamp security video images to within 1/60th of a second. Once Timecode has been applied to the image, field accurate reference can be made during trial allowing all parties to follow along with the evidence accurately. When the Timecode AVX plug-in is used and the images are output to videotape, the timestamp becomes a permanent visual annotation. Timecode takes the guesswork out of locating important visual evidence. dTective™ converts more than 25 bitmapped graphic formats upon import/export providing instant compatibility with other imaging packages on virtually any computer platform. In dTective™, video media is stored in Open Media Framework (OMF) native format, allowing instant compatibility with third-party applications eliminating the need to import or export. dTective™ supports the AVX plug-in architecture that allows third-party software applications to be loaded directly from within the included Effects Palette. These plug-ins provide additional functionality and enhance the analysis experience over and above the powerful capabilities of the dTective™ filters. dTective™ also supports QuickTime Reference Movies allowing media to move instantly between the native program and third-party QuickTime applications such as Adobe After Effects. VTR Play Emulation lets external devices, such as DVD mastering systems, control the dTective™ system remotely using the standard 9-pin protocol. The Record-to-Timeline feature captures video straight to the timeline; the fastest possible way to conduct a video examination. The dTective™ Timeline allows the user to match the time stamp with the time stamp recorded by the original video security system so an analyst can snap to events simply by typing in the targeted time. When using locators and case notes, the time stamp is automatically captured and becomes part of the investigator's report. Intercept transcripts are easily and dynamically produced using the included Script Integration tool. With a simple click of the mouse, each line of the transcript can be locked to a specific video frame. A simple word search instantly cues the transcript and the aligned video exhibit to the exact moment in time. The analyst can highlight a sentence, a paragraph or multiple pages of transcript and play the intercept while the transcript rolls. The Mouse Jog on dTective™ allows a fine and detailed analog scrub of picture while Mouse Shuttle plays at a fixed rate of speed determined by the analyst’s mouse movement. The dTective™ keyboard can be mapped for each individual analyst. Functions such as linear field advance or reverse, key-frame assignment, Locator identification and dozens of other icon-based or menu-based features can be assigned to a single keystroke.
