Everything you need to set up a basic connection or a wireless network is covered on the following pages: 1 Your computer • To set up your internet connection, you’ll initially need to use the Ethernet cable. Due to the length of the cable, your computer needs to be close to the jack point.  NOTE: Once you’ve established a connection using the cable, you’ll be able to set up a wireless internet connection. With wireless internet you’ll be ableto unplug the cable and connect to the internet anywhere in your home. 2 Connecting filters You need to connect a filter wherever you have a phone line in use, including phones, faxes or digital TV decoders. This will remove interference on your phone lines and improve your broadband service. • Unplug your phone, fax or digital TV decoder from the jackpoint. If you need more filters, you can purchase them from Telecom. Jackpoint Filter Phone cable Phone (or other device) • Plug your phone (or other device) into the end of the filter marked ‘phone’. 5 4-0 01956 DEVICE Instruction Guide 125x165.indd 5 11/07/11 4:23 PM 3 Plug in your modem • Plug one end of the grey DSL cable into the DSL port on your modem. Jackpoint 2 3 1 DSL Filter with ADSL port 4 1 2 3 4 Reset Grey DSL cable DSL port Black power cable Phone Power plug • Plug the other end of the grey DSL cable into the end of the filter marked “ADSL”. • Plug one end of the black power cable into the modem and the other end into the wall socket. This can take up to two minutes. • The power light should be a solid green, any of the other lights may be flashing green. ! L ights amber or not working? To do so: • Open Internet Explorer (or other web browser) on your computer. • Type in telecom.co.nz/broadbandsetup • Follow the online activation steps. 7 Setting up your wireless connection Wireless connection: use the internet around your home without a cable between your computer and modem. Now that you’re online, if your computer is wireless enabled you can now set up wireless internet. To create your own wireless network: • Open Internet Explorer (or other web browser) on your computer. • Type in telecom.co.nz/startbroadband • Under Wireless setup, click “Download now” to download Broadband Assist. This is a clever tool that will set your wireless network up in no time. ! If you want to do a manual set up: • Open a web browser. • Type in telecom.co.nz/manualsetup • Then follow the online activation steps. 10 4-0 01956 DEVICE Instruction Guide 125x165.indd 10 11/07/11 4:23 PM Congratulations! You should now be experiencing wireless broadband. Troubleshooting Guide If you have problems setting up your modem check below for a solution: Power The power light is off Ethernet Power Broadband Ethernet Power Internet Broadband Ethernet Power Internet Broadband Ethernet Wi-Fi Wi-FiWPSWi- 12 Internet Broadband Check that the black power cable is connected to both the wall and the modem. (step 3) Check that the power is turned on at both the wall and the back of the modem. (step 4) Check that the ethernet cable is The ethernet connected correctly light is off to both the modem and your computer. (step 4) The broadband light flashing or not lit Check that you have put jackpoint filters on all phones, faxes and digital TV decoders. (step 2) You may have a faulty jackpoint.
