CDCR-204 CD Clock Radio User Guide CARE AND CLEANING SPECIFICATIONS All care and cleaning operations should be carried out with the unit unplugged from the mains power. The surface of the unit can be cleaned with a barely damp cloth and then dried carefully. Do NOT clean the inside of the CD player with a cloth. Lightly blow out any dust. If the CD lens gets dusty or dirty, use a proprietary lens cleaner and follow the instructions carefully. If you keep the CD cover closed at all times when the unit is not in use, the lens is extremely unlikely to get dirty. ELECTRICAL INFORMATION Mains Supply: The mains operating voltage of this unit is on the rating plate on the rear. In the UK this is 230/240 V. This appliance must not be earthed The appliance cord is terminated with a UK approved mains plug fitted with a 3A fuse. If the fuse needs to be replaced, an ASTA or BSI approved BS1362 fuse rated at 3A must be used. If you need to change the mains plug, remove the fuse and dispose of this plug safely immediately after cutting it from the cord. Connecting a Mains Plug The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the code: Blue: NEUTRAL Brown: LIVE: As these colours may not correspond to the 3A FUSE coloured markings BS 1362 identifying the BROWN terminals in your BLUE (Live) plug, proceed as (Neutral) follows: The BLUE wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter N or coloured BLUE or BLACK. The BROWN wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or coloured BROWN or RED. Page 2 Make sure the clock radio is switched on. The power indicator (28) should be lit. ! Set the Function Switch to ‘CD’ ! Open the CD door and load a CD ! Close the CD door ! Press the POWER button (11) OFF. When the preset alarm time arrives the CD will switch on. Because the alarm function has a duration of 60 minutes, if the CD has a playing time greater than 60 minutes, the music will stop after 60 minutes. ! Waking up to a CD program You can set the alarm to wake you with your favourite music. Set the alarm time Set the ALARM switch to AUTO Set the Function switch to CD Make sure the POWER switch is ON Set up a CD program: (follow the procedures on Page 6 ‘ PROGRAMMED DISC PLAY’) ! When you have set up the program, press STOP ! Press the POWER switch (11) OFF NOTE: The music will stop after the program finishes e.g. if one track is programmed, the alarm will stop at the end of this track. ! ! ! ! ! STOPPING THE ALARM The alarm is programmed to run for 60 mins. To stop the alarm: ! SNOOZE BUTTON (6): Press to stop the alarm temporarily. After 6 minutes, the alarm will stop and ring again automatically, . ! POWER (11): Set this to OFF. The alarm will stop, and will sound again 24 hours later. ALARM Switch (19): To turn off the alarm permanently set this to OFF. The alarm LED indicator(22)will go off. ! ! Make sure the POWER switch is ON ! Set the Function switch to CD/AM/FM ! If you are using a CD press PLAY ! Press ‘SLEEP’ (10) The display shows "--" There are 3 sleep times available. Press SLEEP repeatedly to select the sleep time,90,60 or 30 minutes. The clock will start counting down. After the preset time has elapsed the unit will switch off. If you wish to stop the Sleep function ! Press the POWER button (11) OFF. If you have set the Alarm, the clock will wake you up at the preset time. NOTE: If the CD playtime is shorter than your selected sleep time, the music will stop at the end of the disc. FURTHER INFORMATION Do not use your set immediately after transport from a cold place to a warm place, there may be condensation problems. NOTES ON COMPACT DISCS If there are scratches, dirt or fingerprints on the CD, tracking errors may occur. Before playing, clean the CD with a cleaning cloth. Wipe the CD from the centre out. Do not store discs in places with high temperatures or high humidity as playing faults can develop. After playing, store the CD in its case. SLEEP MODE You can set the unit to automatically switch off after a predetermined period: Page 7 CDCR-204 CD Clock Radio User Guide PROGRAMMED DISC PLAY SETTING THE ALARM You can program a selection of tracks in any order. Programme play can only be selected when the CD is stopped. Setting the Alarm Time: To select a Program: ! Press PROGRAM. The display flashes and the ‘PROGRAM’ indicator lights. ! or zzzzz Press repeatedly, to select the desired track ! Press PROGRAM to store the selection. ! Choose another track (or the same track again). The display flashes the chosen track. ! Press PROGRAM to store the selection. (You may choose up to 20 tracks in this way) When you have chosen the final track, press PROGRAM again. This stores all the tracks. ! Now press PLAY. once and stop. The program will play To interrupt a program: ! Press STOP This will stop the disc but the program will still be stored. To cancel a program: ! Press the CD OPEN button. The CD door will lift up. This will clear the memory. You can change tracks and search for passages within the program. REPEAT is also available. RANDOM PLAY To play all the tracks on a disc at random: ! Press the RANDOM button (7) In Random Mode, you can skip tracks, but this will happen randomly. You can also select the REPEAT function to endlessly play all the tracks in a random sequence. ! STEREO SPEAKERS Press and hold the ALARM button(9) down. The display will flash ! With the ALARM button pressed down, successively press the MINUTE and then the HOUR buttons (4) until the time is set. ! When the correct time is displayed, release the ALARM button. NOTE: Remember to check whether you have set AM or PM. If you have set PM the indicator will light. If not the time set is AM. ( See Page 3) ! Setting the WAKE UP Mode: You can set the alarm to wake you with the sound of the radio, the CD player or a buzzer. ! ! To play the Program: ! CONTROLS AND DISPLAYS Set the alarm time as described above Select your wake-up mode by moving the ALARM SELECT switch (19) as below The AUTO position selects CD or RADIO The BUZZER position selects an alarm sound ‘OFF’ switches off the alarm. Wake up to the buzzer: ! Set the alarm time as described above ! Set the ALARM switch (19) to ‘Buzzer’. The ALARM indicator (22) will light. When the preset alarm time arrives the buzzer will sound. The alarm function is programmed to last for 60 minutes and then switch off. Wake up to the radio: ! ! ! ! Set the alarm time as described above Set the ALARM switch (19) to ‘AUTO’. The ALARM indicator (22) will light. Tune the radio to the desired station. (See P4) Switch the POWER switch (11) OFF. When the preset alarm time arrives the radio will switch on DISPLAYS & INDICATORS 2@ ALARM ON 2# PROGRAM ON (CD) 2$ REPEAT ON (CD) 2% RANDOM PLAY ON: (CD) 2^ FM STEREO 2& AM/PM: When ‘Off’, time is AM 88:88 Wake up to the CD: ! Page 6 2* 2( Page 3 When ‘On’, time is PM POWER ON/OFF AM/FM TUNING SCALE CDCR-204 CD Clock Radio User Guide PRELIMINARIES CONNECTING TO THE MAINS ADJUSTING THE VOLUME To play a CD from a selected track Before using this appliance please read this manual fully and familiarise yourself with the various controls and features. Please pay special attention to the safety instructions. Uncoil the power cable and remove the protective cover from the mains plug. Uncoil the FM antenna. To increase the volume: ! Rotate the volume knob clockwise To decrease the volume: ! Rotate the volume knob anticlockwise ! ! Insert the CD Press SKIP or repeatedly, to select the desired track. The track number will flash IMPORTANT NOTE: The position of the volume knob is not a reliable guide as to ‘how loud’ your radio will play. Always refrain from turning the volume knob to very loud settings, especially on CD, as the distortion is unpleasant to listen to and in extreme cases could damage the unit or your hearing. ! Press PLAY/PAUSE track. To go back to the start of a track during play LISTENING TO THE CD PLAYER ! UNPACKING Carefully unpack the unit and remove the polythene bag. Remove the protective card from the CD compartment. If there is any damage, please return it to your nearest Tesco store for replacement. Remember to take your purchase receipt with you. Retain the User Handbook. If you pass the unit on to a third party please pass on the handbook. Retain the packaging. If you dispose of it, do so with regard to recycling regulations in your area. MAINS VOLTAGE Before connecting this unit to the mains supply, please check that the operating voltage on the rating plate corresponds to the mains voltage in your area. In the UK this is 230-240 VAC. BATTERY BACK-UP SYSTEM Your unit is equipped with a battery back-up system, powered by a 9V battery type PP3, 006P (not provided). This ensures that the unit will continue to operate normally during AC power disruption (in order to preserve battery life the display will not light). All the settings will be retained in the memory though the clock time may require slight adjustment. If this battery is not installed, you will have to reset the time and alarm settings when the power is restored. Connecting the battery: Remove the cover on the battery compartment located under the unit. Plug the battery into the clip and place the battery in the compartment. Close the lid. NOTE: An alkaline battery is recommended. For best performance, replace this every 6 months. When disposing of an old battery, do so with regard to recycling regulations. Do not throw batteries into the general rubbish or into the fire. Place the unit on a stable and level surface away from heat and damp and where it is not going to be easily knocked over by children or pets. Plug the mains plug into the power socket and switch on the power at the mains. OPERATION When first switched on at the mains the default time on the display will show 12:00. The clock is a 12 hour unit so remember to set the time of day! SETTING THE CLOCK ! ! ! ! Press and hold the TIME button(8) down. The display will flash With the TIME button pressed down, successively press the MINUTE and then the HOUR buttons (4) until the time is set. When the correct time is displayed, release the TIME button. To set a time after 12:00 (Noon) press the HOUR button until the ‘PM’ indicator lights. AM PM LISTENING TO THE RADIO ! ! ! ! ! ! Page 4 Press POWER (I I).The power indicator (28) will light showing the unit is operational. Select FM or AM reception with the FUNCTION Switch (14). Tune the desired station with the Tuning knob (13). The Tuning Scale (29) will help you find the correct frequency. If you select FM and the station is broadcasting stereo the stereo indicator will light. FM: Adjust the position and angle of the FM antenna for best results AM: Rotating the unit may improve reception, especially if there is interference. to play from this To change tracks during play ! Press SKIP or repeatedly, to select and then play from the desired track. Press SKIP briefly once. Loading a CD To search for a particular passage during play Make sure the clock radio is switched on. The power indicator (28) should be lit. ! Set the Function Switch to ‘CD’ ! Press the CD OPEN button. The CD door will lift up. ! Place a CD (label up)on the central spindle. ! Press gently to secure the CD in place. ! Close the CD door The disc will spin, then stop. The display will briefly indicate the number of tracks on the disc then the display will revert to display the time. ! Press and hold SKIP ------ or ------ until the desired passage is located. During the search the sound is played faster than normal and at a reduced volume. ! Play returns to normal when zzzzzor zzzzzz is released. ! Repeating a track or a complete disc A single track or the complete disc may be repeated. ! Press the REPEAT button to cycle the repeat mode: REPEAT TO PLAY A CD FROM THE START Press the PLAY/PAUSE button(1) The disc will briefly display ’01’ and will play from Track 1 To pause a CD while playing ! Press the PLAY/PAUSE button The disc will pause. In Pause mode the sound mutes and the track number flashes briefly then reverts to show the time ! ! ! To resume play !
