INTRODUCTION
UNPACKING
The MN112A is a compact audio system with built-in CD player, FM radio and iPod/iPhone dock. In addition to volume and source selection, the remote control (supplied) controls transport functions for the CD player and replay from an iPod/iPhone.
Carefully unpack the unit. If it is damaged, please return it to your nearest Tesco store for replacement. Remember to take your purchase receipt with you. Retain the User Handbook. If you pass the unit on to a third party make sure you pass on the handbook. We suggest you retain the packaging. If you dispose of it, do so having regard to any recycling regulations in your area. CONTENTS The carton should contain: • The MN112A audio system • Two loudspeakers • Remote control including battery • Owner’s handbook If any items are missing or damaged, contact your nearest TESCO store for a replacement. Have your receipt ready when you call. Retain the packaging. If you dispose of it, do so having regard to any recycling regulations in your area.

PREPARATION FOR USE PLACEMENT Place the unit on a sturdy table or shelf where it cannot get knocked over and where there is a clear line of sight to the remote handset. The unit is fan-cooled. Make sure that there is a clearance of 10cm (4 inches) around the unit to allow air to circulate for ventilation. CONNECTING THE SPEAKERS Placing the speakers • Unwrap the speaker wires from the ties. • Place a speaker on either side of the main unit, preferably at the same height, and with at least 150mm between each speaker and the main unit. Connecting the speakers The speakers are pre-wired with quick-connect plugs. These plugs should not be removed. • Connect the left and right speaker plugs into the speaker outlet sockets on the back of the unit as shown. The plugs are polarised so be sure to align them correctly.

BEFORE FIRST USE To prepare the remote control for first use, pull out the safety strip to activate the battery.
REPLACING THE BATTERY When replacing the battery in the remote control, refer to the diagrams below. 1. Press the catch at the side of the battery compartment. 2. Slide out the battery cage 3. Remove the old battery.
4. Place the same CR2025 type of battery in the cage with the polarity as shown. 5. Close the cage.

BATTERY CAUTIONS
Dispose of used batteries with regard to the recycling regulations in your area. Do NOT short circuit batteries or throw them into water, the general rubbish or in a fire; batteries may explode or leak. Batteries must not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like. Danger of explosion if the battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the same or equivalent type. Weak batteries can leak and damage the remote control. Replace them in good time!
GETTING STARTED
SETTING THE CLOCK
SELECTING A FUNCTION
FM RADIO AERIAL Before using your unit for FM reception, unwrap and fully extend the aerial wire. In use, you may need to adjust the position of the aerial wire for maximum signal strength.
The clock is set when the unit is set to Standby (the Standby indicator is on).
You can choose from the following functions: • Play FM radio (TUNER). • Play music from a docked iPod. • Play from an external source connected to the front panel AUX (Line) input. • CD playback.
CONNECTING POWER • Check that the mains voltage marked on the rating plate on the back panel is the same as the voltage in your area. • Plug the mains plug into the wall socket and switch the mains power on at the wall. The unit will switch on, set to Standby. The time display will flash. POWER CONTROL • To switch the unit on, press the STANDBY/ON button or the ON/OFF button on the remote control. The unit will switch on and the display will brighten. • To switch the unit off, press the STANDBY/ON button or the ON/OFF button on the remote control. The unit will switch off and the display will dim.
To set the clock: • Press and hold the PROG/MEM button. The hour digits will flash. • Press the { or } button to set the hour digits to the correct time. • Press the PROG/MEM button to confirm this setting. The minute digits on the display will now flash. • Press the { or } button to set the minute digits to the correct time. • Press the PROG/MEM button to confirm this setting. The time is now set.
To change the function: Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly to step through the function options listed above.
ADJUSTING THE VOLUME To increase the volume: • Press the VOLUME + button. To decrease the volume: • Press the VOLUME - button. When the volume is adjusted, the volume level will be displayed briefly on a scale of 00 (minimum) to 32 (maximum). To mute the volume: • Press the button on the remote control. The sound from the speakers will be muted. To unmute the volume: • Press the button on the remote control. The sound from the speakers will return to the last volume level set.

PLAYING A CD You can load and play music CDs and navigate the disc using the buttons on the remote control or the front panel. Selecting CD operation: • Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly until CD is displayed. Loading a disc: • Press the OPEN/CLOSE button. The CD drawer will open. When the drawer has stopped moving: • Holding the disc by the edges, place it label side up onto the loading area on the CD drawer. • Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to close the CD drawer. The unit will read the disc and display the total number of tracks on the CD. Removing a disc: • Make sure that the disc is stopped. • Open the CD drawer by pressing the OPEN/CLOSE button. • Holding the disc by the edges, lift it off the turntable and place it back in the case. • Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to close the CD drawer.
REPEAT & RANDOM Playing a disc: • Press the /, button. The disc will play and the display will show the number of the track playing. Pausing disc playback: • Press the //, button while the disc is playing. The track display will flash. Stopping disc playback: • Press the . (STOP) button while the disc is playing. The disc will stop playing. Selecting tracks: • Press the } or { button to select the next or previous track. Play will jump to the track selected. NOTE: The first time the { button is pressed, play will jump to the start of the track currently playing. Fast search: • Press and hold the } or { button to fast search forward or backward through a track. The sound will mute and the track will search at high speed in the chosen direction.

Repeat play: • Press the MEM.UP button repeatedly to step through the available repeat modes. For CD the repeat options are • Repeat (repeat the current track). • Repeat All (repeat the complete CD). • Repeat off. If a repeat mode is set, the mode selected will be shown on the display. Random play: Random play will play the tracks on the disc in a random order. • Press the RANDOM button to turn Random play on or off. If Random Play is set, ‘ ‘ will be shown on the display next to the track number.
PROGRAM PLAY You can load a disc and store a programmed selection of up to 20 tracks to play from the disc in your preferred sequence. To set a program: • Load a disc and wait for it to read. • Press the PROG/MEM button. The display will change to the Program Entry display. The track number will flash ‘- -’ and the ‘MEM’ indicator will flash.
Playing a program: • Press the /, button immediately after entering the program to start the program playing. The program will begin to play and MEM will show on the display to show that a program is being played. Pause, track selection and fast search functions will work as normal within the programmed selection of tracks.

Clearing a program: • Press the ./STOP button twice. • The MEM indicator will switch off.

• Select the track number you want to program by pressing the } or { button. The flashing track number digits will show the track number. • To save this track into the program sequence, press the PROG/MEM button. The ‘Position in program’ digits will update to show the position in the program for the next track. • Repeat these two steps until you have stored all the tracks in the program sequence.

LISTENING TO FM RADIO
RADIO PRESETS
Your radio can receive FM band radio stations.
Your system can store up to 20 of your favourite stations as presets for quick recall.
Selecting FM operation: • Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly to select TUNER mode. The display will switch to show ‘FM’ and the tuned frequency. To auto-tune to FM stations: • Press and hold the } or { button to search for the next station up or down the band. The radio will search the band and the tuning frequency will be displayed whilst searching. When a usable station is detected the radio will stop tuning and play the station. The station frequency and mono/stereo mode will be displayed. To manually tune to FM stations: • Press the } or { button on the control panel briefly to tune the band manually in 50kHz steps. Stereo/Mono reception: Your radio will switch automatically between stereo and mono FM reception depending on the strength of the aerial signal.
To store a preset (control panel or remote control): • Tune to the station you want to store as a preset. • Press the PROG/MEM button. The display will show ‘MEM’ and a preset number will flash. • Press the M or N button repeatedly to find the preset number you want to store. • Press the PROG/MEM button to store the station in this preset location. The station playing will be saved for future recall by this preset number. To browse the presets • Press the M or N button. As the preset number steps up or down the indicated preset will be recalled.

FITTING THE ADAPTOR
Compatible iPod/iPhone Types • iPod nano (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th generation) • iPod classic • iPod touch (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation) • iPhone 4S • iPhone 4 • iPhone 3GS • iPhone 3G • iPhone In the following text, ‘iPod’ refers to the use of both iPod and iPhone models.
FITTING THE iPod ADAPTOR When your iPod was new it may have been supplied with a standard dock adaptor in the packaging. If so, fit the adaptor by pressing it gently into the Docking Bay as shown above. NOTE: Do not dock an iPod without fitting the correct adaptor, you may damage the iPod and your unit.
iPod ADAPTORS Before docking your iPod you must first check if your iPod has a docking connector. Early iPod models do not have one and cannot be docked to your unit. The docking connector is located on the base of the iPod as shown below.

CONNECTING OTHER iPod MODELS (INC SHUFFLE) If you own an iPod Shuffle, a model without dock connector or prefer to connect your iPod by cable, you can connect the sound output to the AUX IN jack on the front panel.

If you don’t have a dock adaptor: If your iPod was not supplied with a standard dock adaptor, or if you have lost the adaptor, you can buy one from Apple on-line. To determine the exact model of your iPod, refer to this web-link - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353. You can then browse the iPod accessories page on the Apple website to find an adaptor for your iPod model that can be purchased on-line. • Using a 3.5mm stereo jack to jack cable (not supplied), connect one end of the cable to the headphone socket of the iPod, and the other end to the AUX In jack on the front panel. • To listen to your iPod, follow the instructions under ‘Aux Input’ on page 13 for playing equipment connected to the AUX In jack. NOTE:- The volume control of the iPod must be turned up when playing through the AUX IN jack. NOTE:- An iPod connected to the AUX IN jack cannot be operated from the remote control.
Docking Connector Before docking your iPod, you must first fit the correct iPod adaptor to the docking bay. Each iPod adaptor matches the shape of a particular iPod and is necessary to ensure that your iPod is securely held when docked. iPod adaptor Docking bay 11

NAVIGATING iPod MENUS
To dock your iPod: • Check that the correct iPod adaptor is fitted to the docking bay. • Locate the iPod on the Docking Connector and press it gently home.
Once an iPod is docked, you can play music from the iPod through your system.
When an iPod is docked and playing you can also navigate the menus from the control buttons on the remote control.
Playing from a docked iPod: • Press the FUNCTION button to select iPod mode. The display will read ‘iPod’. You can now operate your iPod functions from the control panel or the remote control.
To navigate the iPod menus: • To move up through the iPod menu, press the MENU button. • To scroll up and down options displayed on the iPod menu, press the M or N button. • To select menu items, press the SELECT button.
To remove your iPod from the dock: • Grip the iPod at the sides. • Lift the iPod gently from the dock.
CHARGING AN iPod When an iPod is docked and the unit is switched on the iPod will charge automatically.
iPod playback functions: • Press the /, button to switch between Play and Pause mode at any time. • Press the } or { button to select the next or previous track on your iPod. • Press the ./STOP button to stop the iPod playing. You can also set Repeat or Shuffle modes on the iPod from the remote control. To select repeat modes: • Press the MEM.UP button repeatedly to cycle through the repeat mode options available. The repeat mode set will show on the iPod display. To set shuffle mode: • Press the RANDOM button repeatedly to switch shuffle mode on or off. The shuffle mode symbol will show on the iPod display when set.

The Aux input may be used to connect sound sources with a Line or Headphone analogue output to play through your unit. These may include • iPod models that cannot be docked to the unit • MP3 players • CD walkman players • Tape walkman players • Personal computers or laptops
The system includes a timer to switch it on and off at preset times. You can preset a source to play when the timer operates and also the volume level it will play at. The timer is set when in Standby. To set the timer: • Set the unit to Standby mode. • Press and hold the TIMER/EQ button. The Timer indicator will flash green and the display will show the switch on time. • Press the PROG/MEM button. The hour digits will flash. • Press the } or { button to set the hour digits to the correct number for the timer to switch on. • Press the PROG/MEM button. The minute digits on the display will now flash. • Press the } or { button to set the minute digits to the correct number for the timer to switch on. • Press the PROG/MEM button. The wake-up source will now be displayed. This is the source that will play when the timer functions. • Press the FUNCTION button to change the source for timer operation. • Press the PROG/MEM button to confirm this setting. The timer volume level will now appear on the display. This is the volume level that will be set when the timer functions. • Press the VOL +/- button if you want to select a different volume setting. • Press the PROG/MEM button to confirm this setting. The timer indicator will light. The timer is now set. To switch the timer off: • Press and hold the TIMER/EQ button. The timer indicator will switch off.
You can set the Sleep timer to play music for a set period while you are falling asleep.
Connecting to the AUX IN jack: • Connect a stereo 3.5mm jack cable (not supplied) between the headphone or LINE/AUX output of the personal audio player and the AUX In jack on the front panel. Playing the AUX IN source: • Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly to select AUX mode. AUX will be displayed. • Set your personal audio player/computer to PLAY. • Set the listening volume to the level you want with the volume control. If there is no sound or if the volume level is not loud enough, you may need to increase the volume setting on your personal audio player/computer.

To set the sleep timer: • Play your choice of music. • Press the SLEEP button on the remote control repeatedly to step down from a sleep time of 90 minutes in 10 minute intervals. The minimum sleep time you can set is 10 minutes. Pressing the SLEEP button one more time will cancel the sleep timer. The sleep indicator will appear on the display and the music will continue to play for the time you selected. When the sleep time expires, the unit will set to Standby.

Sleep indicator To check the sleep time remaining: • Press the SLEEP button while sleep is set. The sleep time remaining will be displayed.
SOUND EQUALISATION
TROUBLESHOOTING
You can change the equalisation of the sound or boost the level of bass from your radio to suit your taste.
Poor quality radio reception: • Try changing the position of the aerial wire.
To select an EQ response: • Press the TIMER/EQ button repeatedly to step through the Sound equalisation options optimised as shown below.
Low volume when playing via the AUX input: • The volume setting of the source may be too low. Try increasing the volume setting.

As each setting is selected, the sound EQ will change.
Remote control not operating: • Check that the remote control is aimed at the front panel remote control sensor. • The battery may be exhausted. Try a new battery.
CARE AND MAINTENANCE
CARE AND CLEANING All care and cleaning operations should be carried out with the unit unplugged from the mains power. The surface of the unit can be cleaned with a barely damp cloth and then dried carefully. Never use abrasives, abrasive cloths or chemical solvents . Take particular care when cleaning the speakers as the drive unit surfaces are exposed. Never touch the drive unit surfaces with anything.
