PCD206 User Manual TROUBLESHOOTING WARRANTY If your player is not performing as well as expected please read through the following checklist before returning the player for attention. Your Technika appliance is covered by a warranty for 12 months from the date of purchase. If a fault develops during this period, please contact the TESCO electrical help line on 0845 601 2549. Please have your original purchase receipt with you when you call. This warranty in no way affects your consumer rights Player will not turn on: Flat batteries - replace AC adaptor not connected properly - reconnect: No playback: Defective or wrong format disc or CD compartment open- Rectify. Moisture has formed. Remove disc, open compartment, Leave open for one hour to dry. Reload disc. Display frozen - no play: Electrostatic discharge. Remove and re-insert batteries to reset the player No sound: Earphones not properly inserted or faulty - reinsert or replace. Volume too low - Adjust Volume Distorted Sound: Faulty disc, weak batteries - rectify. Volume too high - Reduce volume level. Skipping,: CD is dirty - clean Excessive vibration. Re-position player on a firm stable surface. Opening the lid and defeating the safety interlocks will expose the user to radiation from the laser beam. Do not stare into the laser while it is operating. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. 1. Open the battery compartment cover and insert two "AA" in the battery compartment with the polarity indicated in the battery compartment. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, or any apparatus that produces heat. 2. Close the battery compartment cover. Read these instructions. Keep these instructions. Heed all warnings. Follow all instructions. Clean only with dry cloth. Use only attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped. LISTENING TO MUSIC AT EXTREMELY HIGH LEVELS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS CAN SEVERELY DAMAGE YOUR HEARING. This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio or television reception which can be determined by tuning the equipment off and on. The user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: Re-orientate or re-locate the receiving antenna. Increase the separation between the equipment and the receiver. Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help. BATTERIES: Do not leave batteries for extended periods in the apparatus as they can leak or corrode causing damage to the unit. Exhausted batteries must be treated with care and disposed of according to any safety or recycling regulations in force in your area. The disc is called the 'root' folder: tracks put on the disc (not in a folder)will play first. Folders are like albums each one containing one or more songs. When the low battery indicator appears in the display panel replace the batteries as the player will not function properly. AC OPERATION MODE PLAY DC6V + Use only an approved UK 6V DC – power adaptor (not supplied). Ensure the connector polarity matches the player (see diagram). Plug the adaptor into the player and then plug the adaptor into the mains supply before turning on the power. Disconnect standard batteries when using the AC adapter. $ Load the disc. Let the disc spin and then press STOP. When the disc loads you will see the disc structure. This disc has 8 folders and a total of 115 playable tracks. $ Press . The disc plays the first track in the ROOT folder. When all the tracks are played it will then play all the tracks in the second folder and so on. $ To change tracks within a folder: press F. SKIP or B. SKIP repeatedly. $ To change folders: Press ALBUM+/-.repeatedly. $ PAUSE and Track Search work as in CD mode. $ Press MODE once .The current track plays repeatedly. $ Press MODE twice - the tracks in the album repeat $ Press MODE three times- all tracks on the disc repeat. $ Press MODE four times to access INTRO play $ Press MODE five times for random play ALBUM INTRO and RANDOM play work the same as for CD play CARE AND CLEANING ALBUM AFTER USE Switch the CD player off. Wait for the disc to stop. Hold the edge and gently press the centre pivot to pick up the disc. Remove the disc and store it in its packing. Do not leave a disc in the player for extended periods. ALBUM CLEANING Cleaning the Cabinet: Wipe with a soft cloth. If the cabinet is dirty, dampen the cloth with a weak solution of neutral detergent and water, and wipe clean. Cleaning the Lens: A dirty lens will cause skipping and if the lens is very dirty, the CD may not work. Open the disc cover and clean the lens as shown: Dust or Dry Particles: Using a camera lens brush/blower, blow on the lens a few times and wipe it lightly with the brush to remove dust. Blow on the lens once more. Fingerprints: If the lens cannot be cleaned with a brush/blower, use a cotton swab starting from the middle and working to the edge. Cleaning the disc: Wipe fingerprints carefully from the surface of disc with a soft cloth. Wipe in a straight motion from the centre to the edge. PROGRAMMING AN MP3 DISC. 1. Load a CD; Press STOP 2. Press PROG: Track and Album nos. flash / P -:01 appears. The display prompts you to enter an album and track 3. Press ALBUM +/- to select the album number 4. Press to locate the desired track. 5. Press PROG to confirm. 0o0 00 / P -:02 appears 6. Repeat steps 3 , 4 and5 to program up to 60 tracks 7. To review the program tracks press PROG repeatedly 8. Press to play the program. 9. If any items are damaged or missing, return the unit to your nearest Tesco store for replacement, Please have your receipt ready when you call. Open the CD lid and remove any cardboard protection from the tray. INTRO RANDOM $ You will need to purchase two AA alkaline batteries ONE RPT ALBUM RPT. ALL RPT. INTRO RANDOM $ Connect two AA batteries as shown on the Inside Front Cover. If you are using an AC adaptor, (not supplied) follow those instructions. ONE REPEAT NORMAL ONE REPEAT Press to set up, check or change a program ESP/ALBUM KEY Anti-Skip Function in CD mode; Album Up Function in MP3 mode $ Open the CD Lid: Move the OPEN switch to the right. The lid will open TO START PLAYING A CD FROM A SELECTED TRACK $ Load a CD into the Disc compartment with the label side up. Line up the centre of the CD over the spindle of the CD transport. Gently push down on the CD in the centre of the disc, so that it is firmly in place. To remove a CD: Wait for the disc to stop spinning, open the lid, hold the disc by the edge while pressing the spindle down and lift off the disc. $ $ $ $ Insert the CD. Press PLAY/PAUSE/POWER ON. Let the CD load. Press STOP/OFF Press F. SKIP or B. SKIP repeatedly to select the track. Press to play the CD forward from this track. $ Close the lid. Close it gently until the locking catch clicks shut $ TO CHANGE TRACKS DURING PLAY $ Turn the volume down to a low level. Rotate the VOL control to the right to decrease the volume and to the left to increase the volume. $ Press F. SKIP or B. SKIP forward from the desired track. $ Switch the player ON. Press the PLAY/PAUSE/POWER ON ( ) button to switch the player on. The disc will spin and read the Table Of Contents(TOC). Some discs will begin playing immediately, a few won’t. $ $ Press the $ increase the volume to a suitable level. $ To emphasise the bass sound: Set the BASS BOOST switch to the ON position. The amount of bass boost depends on the VOLUME control setting. The disc plays from Track 1 $ The HOLD switch disables all player functions in Playback or Stop mode. Moving the switch to the Right engages HOLD, moving it to the Left allows the unit to return to normal operation. $ To pause and re-start a disc: Press the $ To stop a disc(STANDBY): Press the STOP/OFF ( )button. To turn the player off: Press the STOP/OFF ( )button twice. TO GO BACK TO THE START OF A TRACK DURING PLAY $ Press B. SKIP $ TO SEARCH FOR A PASSAGE DURING PLAY once. $ Press and hold F. SKIP can reach the passage. $ Release F. SKIP or B. SKIP or B. SKIP to quickly scan the disc so you to resume normal play. ANTI SHOCK PROTECTION “ESP” (CD Playback Only) The player uses solid state memory to prevent the sound from skipping when subjected to shocks. ESP automatically turns on when play is started and is indicated by ‘ESP’ at the top of the screen. A steady icon indicates an empty buffer. When the icon flashes the data buffer is full. When ESP is operating, battery consumption is higher. Switch ESP off to conserve battery life when you are not on the move. $ To switch ESP ON and OFF: press the ESP key. When ESP is switched On or Off the sound will be temporarily interrupted. This is normal. Dirty, scratched or warped discs may affect the ESP system. If you wish to use ESP and operate the player vertically, the OPEN switch should face up. button. $ repeatedly to select and play the CD Auto power-off: When the unit is stopped (standby mode) with no activity for approximately 30 seconds, the power will automatically turn off. 3 CD DISPLAY INDICATIONS, MODE AND PROGRAM PLAY When a disc is loaded into the player when it is switched on, or if the player is switched on with a disc in place: $ The player spins the disc and reads the TABLE of CONTENTS (TOC). The player displays "READ" $ If there is no disc: “No disc” is displayed. Insert a disc and close the lid. The player reads the disc. $ If the lid is opened: , the display shows “OPEN”. Closing the lid starts auto adjustment. $ If disc player cannot read the Table of Contents (TOC): "Er" is displayed. $ When the TOC data has been read: the display briefly shows the TOC (Total no. of tracks on the disc). INTRO SKIP: The player samples the first few seconds of each successive track on the disc. When the player is stopped or playing: $ Press MODE three times. INT is displayed and flashes. $ Press or F. SKIP to start Intro play from track 1 $ To cancel INTRO play: Press the MODE button twice. TO PLAY FROM STOP MODE: Press the PROGRAM PLAY button. $ TO PAUSE: Press . To re-start play press When a disc is paused, the display flashes. $ TO STOP: Press the STOP key . The disc plays randomly. $ If you select RANDOM during play and do nothing: When the end of the track is reached, the player will repeat the track and then play randomly from that point forward. $ To cancel RANDOM play: Press the MODE button.
