TechNote 206 MicView Setup Connect all microphones. Connect all triggers to the appropriate device. If using a Vaddio controller you may need to init triggers or reboot the controller. This must be done when no microphones are active. The MicView uses TTL logic and therefore provides a float voltage and an active high of 5V when triggered. Vaddio controllers read the state of all of the triggers on initial startup and considers this the idle state. Any change in this state is considered a trigger. If the MicView is not connected at initial startup of the controller, the flat voltage is considered a trigger. Typical Setup Make sure that inputs 1 and 2 are configured on the front toggle buttons for the correct input. Illuminate the Push to Talk button on the front The Low Gate threshold light should be lit. Open one microphone in a quiet room. Adjust the low gate threshold up until the LED under that microphone goes out. Turn it down until the ambient noise in the room is just enough to gate the microphone on. This assures that a pause in speaking will not release the trigger and cause undesirable camera movement. Verify that each microphone gates on with just the ambient noise present. If not, adjust the individual microphone volume until it does. Check the output level and adjust the Master Output to the desired level. Note that the output of the MicView is line level. If you are hearing distorted or overdriven sound you are probable sending the output to a Mic level input. Linking the MicViews Make sure you are using a STRAIGHT THROUGH RJ12 cable. Many cables available at your local store are not STRAIGHT THROUGH. All units ship in Master mode. To set the additional units to slave mode consult the manual. Before connecting the link cables apply power to the slave units. If the slave unit has been configured properly the Audio Level meter will peak. After the link cable are properly installed the Audio Level meter will return to zero. After the link cables have been installed, all audio will be sent out of the master unit. In addition if you are using RS232 control, mic in\formation will be sent out of the Master RS232 port for all microphones. Additional slave units will transmit the microphone information as mics 13 and above, depending on how many MicViews are linked. NOTE: The LINK LED does not light unless data is being sent over the link cable. It does not stay lit even when the MicViews are properly linked. NOTE: When using a wireless mic for the instructor on port 1 it is suggested that a trigger NOT be connected for port 1 as this microphone is typically not Push to Talk. The MicView can be Vaddio • 131 Cheshire Lane Minnetonka,MN 55305 • 800-572-2011 • 763-971-4400 • FAX: 763-971-4464 • vaddio.com set to mix the audio of Mic 1 and one additional mic.
