Mobile PORTS Monthly Progress Report TASK Order XX July 2008

This report reflects activities that occurred during the month of May for the Mobile Bay PORTS maintained by the Division of Nearshore Research at Texas A&M UniversityCorpus Christi. Emergency maintenance and monthly inspection of stations included in the Mobile Bay PORTS are currently being performed under contract by technicians from the Dauphin Island Sea Lab (DISL). All activities occurring in support of or maintenance of Mobile PORTS stations are at the direction of the Division of Nearshore Research (DNR) Task Manager. The DISL Technicians (3) received training during the installation of PORTS equipment and are familiar with each station, its components, and the stations operation. The DISL technicians also perform the monthly site inspections. All supporting documentation is delivered by DNR to the NOAA TM and COR.
Scheduled Preventive Maintenance Visits Scheduled visits for all stations were completed as required. All preventive visit logs are included in the report all others will be submitted accordingly. In addition to these scheduled visits, any others and/or discrepancies that were found have been addressed as noted below: USCG Mobile On July 17, 2008 a scheduled site visit was made to perform monthly inspection. The IP MODEM was found not working. ASPA Water Level On July 9, 2008 a scheduled site visit was made to perform monthly inspection. The IP MODEM was found not working. ASPA Pier E On July 9, 2008 a scheduled site visit was made to perform monthly inspection. No discrepancies were found. Choctaw Point No monthly service was performed. Fort Morgan On July 9, 2008 a scheduled site visit was made to perform monthly inspection. The Met IP MODEM was found not working. Buoy M On July 18, 2008 the Clamperatus was reinstalled. Dauphin Island On July 22, 2008 a site visit was made to perform monthly inspection. No discrepancies were found.
Emergency Maintenance Any emergency maintenance visits that were made are listed below:

ASPA Pier E On July 1, 2008 a site visit was made to address the missing transmissions problem. Previously we had replaced the IP modem and Sprinkie board. Communication was established with the IP, but communication with the ADP could not be established. After painting the new ADP (SN C-693), we installed it with a new cable On July 17, 2008 a diver checked the ADP mount and found the chain tangled in the lower winch wheel. The chain is too long. Buoy M Ship Channel Entrance On July 18,2008 the clamperatus and antenna were reinstalled on Buoy M. The compass was calibrated and recording was started at 15:49, CDT.

Comments/Requirements Next Visit The current meter winch chain is too long and tangles at the lower gear. Changed Sprinkie board and PICO chip. Also, replaced current meter cable. PICO is overheating and shutting down ADP. Also, replaced existing ADP with new ADP serial #C-693.
