Then go to that section of this brochure to learn more surrounding that type of Thales Optem Video Coupler. For each of the Coupler Series featured, there is a Thales Optem Video Coupler Model Maker Chart and corresponding Model Maker to provide you with a quick and simple means of determining the correct Video Coupler model number for your microscope, camera and magnification needs. Refer to the Model Maker Chart and follow the steps as follows: From column number one, determine the mount type required for your video camera (ie., C, F or Bayonet mount). Record the two-letter designation for that mount type in the first two spaces of the model maker form. In the example below, we have selected a Standard Coupler for a C-mount camera. 1 Sample Model Maker Form 02 Within column number two, locate your desired magnification factor (ie., 0.38X, 0.50X, 0.67X, 1.0X, 2.0X) and record the two-number designation for that magnification factor in the second two spaces of the model maker form. In the example below, our camera has a 2/3” format, so we have selected a 0.67X (2/3X) magnification factor. Refer to pages 4-5 for a detailed discussion on the relationship between magnification and field-of-view. 2 Next locate the brand of your microscope from column number three. Record the single-letter designation for your microscope brand in the third model maker slot as indicated. In the example below, our microscope is a Leica brand. 3 Immediately next to the manufacturer brand of your microscope, locate the microscope model as listed next to the bold-face model designation letters. Record the appropriate model designation letter in the final slot provided within the model maker form. In the example below, we have selected an “A” clamp for a Leica DM L Series Microscope. 4 In summary, refer to the Standard Video Coupler Model Maker on page 13. The example below indicates we have specified… • • • • • a Standard Video Coupler fitting a C-mount video camera with 0.67X (2/3X) magnification designed to fit a Leica brand microscope model, DM L Series. If your diagonal falls between two standard format diagonals, select the larger camera-format diagonal and choose the video coupler that corresponds to that camera format. Ideally, you want to see the maximum amount of a microscope’s circular image within a rectangular format (that of a video camera). Achieving this is a simple exercise in selecting the most appropriate video coupler magnification for your camera format or chip size. When you require a more highly magnified image and a smaller field-of-view, select a Video Coupler with a higher magnification factor than your camera format, thus enhancing the image magnification and resolution to the monitor. CAMERA FIELDS-OF-VIEW In the diagrams below, the circles represent an 18mm field number as seen through a microscope eyepiece. The rectangles correspond to the portion of that image which will appear on your video monitor. Unlike other brand couplers, Thales Optem Standard Couplers contain an image plane within the optical coupler to allow you to project a 21mm reticle onto your monitor. Our Standard Couplers feature a two-piece design consisting of an optical coupler and a bottom clamp. The bottom clamps fit into your microscope photoport or phototube and provide a secure mounting interface for the optical coupler. You may choose from any number of bottom clamps to meet the ever-growing variety of microscope models. Furthermore, a single Standard Coupler can fit into any of the bottom clamps, giving you the ability to use one optical coupler on a variety of different microscope models without having to purchase additional optical couplers. Image Quality Precision optics produce crisp, flat-field images with all microscope objectives, including achromats, apochromats and plan fluorites. An adjustable set screw allows the user to easily focus Standard Video Couplers in establishing parfocality on the video monitor. With a lockable focus, Thales Optem Couplers are far less prone to accidental misadjustment, ensuring that establishing your parfocality is a one-time setup. Internally Focusable Quick and easy adjustment to set screws achieves parfocality with your video monitor. Allen wrench style set screws eliminate focus movement after parfocality has been established. Magnification Options Available in 0.38X, 0.50X, 0.67X, 1.0X, 1.6X and 2.0X magnification factors to provide maximum imaging flexibility. Refer to the Standard Model Maker on page 13 to specify a Standard “Do I maximize my resolution?” Zooming When trying to maximize your field-of-view, the goal is to capture as much of the field (as seen through the eyepieces) on the monitor. This can be achieved by reducing the magnification to the camera through a video coupler. On the other hand, cameras have traditionally been unable to achieve resolution comparable to that of the human eye. In order to counter this short coming, you can use a higher magnification video coupler to increase resolution to the monitor. However, increasing your resolution decreases your field-of-view… And so continues the dilemma. With Thales Optem’s Zooming Video Couplers, you can dial down to the largest field-of-view at low power, and dial up to maximum resolution at high power… and see everything in between. 22 www.thales-optem.com Mini TV Tube Coupler for your application. 7:1 Standard Zooming Coupler requires Mini TV Tube matched to your camera format (must be ordered separately, see chart below).
