GOODIE A SCENARIO FOR CONAN by Nicolas Texier Tonight, Bêlit’s ship INSPIRATIONS makes a stopover in the harbour of Morghara. The main idea of this scenario comes from our wish to offer, for once, an objective which the Overlord should achieve, and which the heroes should prevent from being completed. Accompanied by her lover, We also wanted Bêlit to be the main character (rather than our favourite Cimmerian), like her mage and a few guards, in Hunting the Tigress, but with her having a more active role. The idea of a fight during an alcohol-fueled evening in an inn (resulting in a blend of Western and Pirate movies.) the queen of the Black came with it. This scenario could take place on another board, but the way the tavern is Coast celebrates her last divided and the way characters move in it, offer some interesting options. The inn also catch, a Stygian galley which was offers the possibility to play with guests, who could hinder or help the main characters, or be potential enemies, which is a fun strategic lever. What you are reading here is the conveying the Crown of Xuthal, result the result of these thoughts, and the only reason we created this scenario is to an ancient relic discovered offer a good time to all of you who will play it. May Crom be gentle with you! in the jungle. The Crown was brought in town by the captain in order to show it to several wizards who could give her a good price for it. Burning with an unhealthy desire for the pirate, one of them, a man named Septhis, suddenly appeared in the inn, determined to kidnap her. He was accompanied by mercenaries, to whom he instructed to capture her intact. Taking advantage of the noise, the thief Shevatas sneaked to the room where the companions have left their luggage, hoping to get hold of the crown... VICTORY CONDITIONS The heroes win if the Overlord is unable to achieve any of his objectives before the end of the 8th turn. The Overlord has two distinct objectives : ♦♦ He must take the Crown of Xuthal out of the board. This objective can only be achieved under the condition that Shevatas is still alive. ♦♦ He must kidnap Bêlit and take her to the same area where Septhis is. this objective can only be achieved under the condition that Septhis is still alive. At the end of the 8th turn, the guards suddenly storm in to stop these disorders, and the game ends. If only one objective is achieved, it is a partial victory for the Overlord. If both objectives are achieved, it is a full victory. If any party kills Bêlit, that party immediately loses the game. HEROES SETUP Number 1 represents the Yuetshi dagger and the Crown of Xuthal. Number 2 represents Conan’s and Bêlit’s equipment. For Septhis, use the figurine, the token and the tile corresponding to Zogar Sag. In this scenario, 3 heroes are in game: ♦♦ Bêlit, equipped with a sword and a leather armor, and accompanied by 3 guards; ♦♦ Conan, equipped with Conan’s sword and throwing daggers; ♦♦ Hadratus, equipped with Yuetshi dagger and the following spells: Teleportation, Mitra’s Halo and Bori’s Rage. The spell Mitra’s Halo is not activated when the game starts. Plato magazine #93  January February 2017 1 The heroes start the game with 5 gems in their Fatigue zone and without any weapon or armor (remember: making a melee attack without any weapon makes you remove 2 symbols from the dice you rolled). The heroes can find their own equipment in the bedroom they occupy, on the 1st floor. To get fully equipped (weapons and armor), you must spend 1 gem in manipulation for each item. OVERLORD The Overlord starts the game with 11 gems: 6 are in his Fatigue zone, and he gets 5 gems back every turn. Events ♦♦ 3 Reinforcement points ♦♦ The pirate mercenaries: Septhis throws gold to the guests and orders them to attack Bêlit. Add the tile of a group of pirates to the River, underneath number 1 (the other tiles shift one space to the right). These pirates are now under the control of the Overlord. This event can happen only if Septhis is still alive. ♦♦ Summoning Set: The Overlord earns 2 additional gems, which are immediately placed in his Reserve zone. This event can happen only if Septhis is still alive. ♦♦ Wind in the sails: The alcohol drunk by the heroes during the evening suddenly takes effect. Each hero moves 2 gems from his Active zone to his Fatigue zone. If all of a hero’s gems are already in his Fatigue zone, nothing happens. ♦♦ Renewed energy: The Overlord chooses one character among Septhis, Zaporavo or The Capitain, and adds one of that leader’s tiles to the River, on the most right available spot. This event can happen only once, and targets a character who is still alive. River ♦♦ Shevatas, 6 HP ♦♦ Septhis, 6 HP, equipped with the spells Bori’s Rage, Set’s Possession and Set’s Halo; the spell Set’s Halo is activated when the game starts ♦♦ Bossonian guards ♦♦ Zaporavo, 7 HP ♦♦ The Captain, 5 HP ♦♦ Event The guests The guests, represented by the Pirates figurines, are neutral when the game starts. They cannot be activated by the heroes side, nor by the Overlord. However, they are considered hostile for the encumbrance they represent for all of the figurines, both the heroes and the Overlord’s. If any of the guests undergoes an attack from either sides, all of the figurines in the same group take sides for the opposite side (i.e. in order to move faster and catch up with Shevatas, Conan deems useful to kill a purple pirate; The three other purple pirates then take sides for the Overlord). Any group taking sides for the heroes becomes a group of allies, which can be activated according to the regular rules. Any group taking sides for the Overlord joins his troops in the River, in the most right available spot. Stealing the Crown In order to search the bedroom and get hold of the Crown, Shevatas must, in replacement of his attack, roll 2 red dice and get 2 symbols (rerolling allowed). The Overlord then takes the Crown of Xuthal card in his hand. That card is placed back onto the board if Shevatas is killed. The Crown is considered considered taken out of the board if Shevatas finishes his movement by spending one more point from a Street space. Shevatas is the only figurine capable of seizing the Crown. Chests The chests contain the following items : Battle Axe, Life Potion, Explosive Orb, Buckler, Chain Mail, and Parrying Dagger. Leaping / Climbing the balcony rail SPECIAL RULES Leaping from the balcony rail inflicts 2 orange dice of damage, without the possibility to guard, or 1 orange die if the figurine has the Leap skill. Climbing the balcony rail costs 2 gems for a character who has the Climb skill. Kidnap Bêlit Leaping / Climbing a staircase If you don’t own Shevatas’ tile (Kickstarter exclusive), it can be replaced by the tile Event 2, with the following skills: Evasive, Protected, Movement 2, Guard 2, Ranged attack 2, orange dice can not be rerolled. The Overlord’s figurines can only use Melee attack (he can not use ranged attacks and spells). When the last of Bêlit’s gems is moved to the Wound zone, Bêlit doesn’t die, but she is caught. The player who controlled her can’t play anymore, her equipment is laid on the area she occupies, and her figurine stays on the board. One of the Overlord’s figurines may give up his attack and, instead, move with her for free (the Overlord can usually defend, reroll and allocate extra movement to that figurine). If, at any time, no hostile figurine is standing on the same area as her, Bêlit escapes, all of her gems are moved to her Fatigue zone, and her player can control her again, exactly like before. Bêlit may not use Health potions nor use her skill Attack from Beyond. Shevatas may not attack Bêlit. 2 Leaping from a staircaise (not just stepping down the stairs) inflicts 2 yellow dice of damage, without the possibility to guard, or 1 yellow die if the character has the Leap skill. Climbing a staircase (not just stepping up the stairs) costs 1 gem for a character who has the Climb skill. Doors The doors are not locked. They can simply be opened by spending 1 Movement point and are then removed from the board. Plato magazine #93  January February 2017
