The Farmer’s Champion Welcome to the 53rd edition of the Chandlers Bugle tar turn on the front page of the Bugle is the new 418 Rogator self propelled sprayer from Challenger, which brings Challenger reliability and performance to the sprayer market, combined with Chafer, the premier sprayer manufacturer.

We have available for demonstration this season a full range of Challenger products, the 865 and 765 tracked tractors and the high output 5000 litre 618 Rogator/ Chafer sprayer. The Challenger 765 will be coupled up for demonstration with the SMS Finisher F1 5 metre cultivator, a heavy cultivator with two rows of cultivating discs, multiple deep tines and a heavy DD press roller, which is available in sizes from 4 metres to 7 metres. Massey Ferguson celebrated their 50th anniversary this year with a gathering of dealers from around the world at Chantilly in France, and while time was taken to reflect on MF’s great heritage and achievements, most emphasis was placed on the future and the massive investment AGCO are making in developing their already superb range of products. As they unveiled the THINK RED campaign, which highlights strengths of the product and support behind the scenes, they gave us a glimpse of the striking new 365HP tractor to be introduced later in 2009. At our Fendt working demonstration earlier this year, which was supported by products from Lemken and He-Va, we were all truly surprised at the performance of the Lemken VariTansanit Hybrid plough which acts as a mounted plough in the furrow with rigid headstock and turns over as a semi mounted plough at the ends. A Fendt 415 4 cylinder 150 HP tractor was well matched to the seven furrow plough opened up to 20”. In light land conditions this makes an extremely efficient combination. CAT have introduced the TH407 material handler which further improves their reliable high output machines, creating a great deal of interest at the recent Cereals show. With more new models due soon, and cost effective pricing, can you afford not to have a CAT ?

I am please to announce that we have taken on the market leading Strautmann franchise for trailed forage collection wagons, for this growing market sector. With improvements in the performance and output of these forage collection wagons, they are now a very cost effective alternative to the self propelled forage harvester for the production of grass silage, allowing a sensible time at the clamp to make a quality product. We have demonstration models available for trial from MF, Fendt, Challenger and Cat, along with many other products including combines, drills and cultivators, so please make arrangements through your area representative for anything you would like to see on your farm. Over recent years we have developed our hire business in combination with used tractor sales, and have an unrivalled selection of quality used MF, Fendt and Challenger product available for sale and hire. Take a look at the listings over the following pages for anything you are looking out for. We are buyers of all makes of used tractors and will be pleased to underwrite tractors of any make which you may have for sale. Turning to our motor vehicle department, I would like to draw your attention to Subaru’s new boxer diesel engines currently fitted to the Legacy and Outback models, and soon to be introduced to the new Forester and Impreza. All models come well under the critical 160 CO2 banding which allows 20% write down tax allowance, and keeps the road tax below £150 for the most expensive models, with scale charges at a very reasonable rate for personal use. Also consider the Isuzu Rodeo, a commercial vehicle, best in class for fuel economy, road tax, and scale charge for personal use, which are all much more reasonable than charges for a non commercial vehicle. Ssangyong have introduced a commercial Kyron from £15,300 + vat and a Rexton from £17,300 + vat on the road, which also benefit from all the cost advantages of a commercial vehicle. We have all models available to demonstrate from Belton and Horncastle.

Fendt Open Days 2008 On Wednesday, 27th February, 2008, a FENDT demonstration day was held on land at Toft Hill Farm, Tumby by kind permission of Mr Tim Spurrier. Visitors were able to see and drive various models of FENDT Vario Tractors from the 125HP FENDT 312 to the 360HP FENDT 936. The raffle prize of £100 of Chandlers shop vouchers was won by Mr Tim Bryant of West Ashby. The 4 Cylinder 155HP FENDT 415 Tractor surprised many people by how well it pulled the 7 Furow Lemken Hybrid (Tansanit) Semi-Mounted Plough.

RCT14 ROOTCROP TRAILER The RCT14 features a body of 23’3” (705mm) long x 8’ (2440mm) wide x 6’ (1065mm) deep with a unique body side and floor panels made in one piece to remove corner welded joints, a corner body radius replaces conventional bevel corners. This large body gives a true 615cu.ft (17.4cu.mtr) struct level internal volume. The complete body manufactured with 4mm floor sheets and floor panels. A full width high vision grid bar window 600m deep with bolt in perspex, window is standard equipment together with hydraulic operated tailgate.
The main chassis is manufactured from 250mm x 150mm x 10mm RHS. Grade 50D high-grade box section. The basic model has twin rams, but a single tipping ram version is available as an option. The chassis is mounted on 3 leaf commercial parabolic springs and 100mm sq. 10 stud commercial axles complete with sprung drawbar and swivel hitch, fitted hydraulic brakes as standard. Tyre size is 385/65R 22.5 remould tyres with various floatation options available. The criteria of this new design was to offer a low side to enable crop to be discharged into the trailer with minimal damage and also to offer a larger tractor/trailer braking efficiency within the cost of the basic trailer. This new trailer model is fitted with a high speed chassis and hydraulic brakes only for agricultural speed 30kph. It will be relatively easy at some future date to convert this trailer to 50kph. The additional equipment to convert will be 2 line air braking, mudguards and regulation side marker lights, which would make this trailer 50kph compatible.

World Record Breaking 644ha cultivated in 24hrs By cultivating an area the size of a football field every two minutes, the world’s biggest tractor a 570hp, Challenger MT875B has set a new world record. In 24hrs it cultivated a massive 644ha or 780 football fields working with a set of 14m wide Grégoire Besson XXL discs. The world record was established near Timisoara, Romania, the discs were set to a minimum depth of 10cm in medium to heavy clay loam soil. The average work rate for this standard production Challenger MT875B tractor was 26.8ha/hr achieving a remarkably low fuel consumption of just 4.42 litres /ha. This proves the MT800B rubber tracked range of tractors is the ideal solution for large-scale farmers who are aiming for the ultimate in productivity and the lowest cost per hectare of production. This world-beating output and efficiency also demonstrated how using Challengers Auto-Guide self steering system can cut costs, the tractor
was able to work at speeds up to 20km day and night maximizing output by eliminating over or under lapping Using Challengers Auto-Guide self steering system trials have show increase in output of up to 42% can be achieved whilst reducing fuel usage by 32% per hectare.

RoGator 418 is fitted with a 3-speed hydrostatic transmission with Challengers unique “drive sensing system” which ensures maximum power is transmitted to the wheels at all times giving exceptional power response for hill climbing and travelling in tough conditions. The welded steel space frame chassis of the 418 is designed for high-speed operations with heavy loads in extreme conditions, such is the quality of the construction the chassis can also be used as a compressed air reservoir. Suspension is fully automatic hydraulic selflevelling fitted to the front axle, with AEON block suspension on the rear axle.
