But before you start using your new tool, you must take the time to charge it for 3 hours before its first use. Your new tool comes with a small amount of charge, but the initial charge will ensure your new tool will have optimum power performance to give you smooth fast cutting, every time. -- Before using for the first time, fully charge your new tool continuously for 3 hours. -- All subsequent charges will be for 90 minutes. -- To charge The Beard Designer, insert the small plug on the charging adaptor into the hole on the back of the charging stand. Then plug the charging adaptor into a suitable mains power socket. -- Ensuring The Beard Designer is switched off, place it onto the charging stand so the 2 charging prongs on either side of The Beard Designer sits snuggly into the charging stand. Switch the charging adaptor on. -- The LED screen will light up for a few seconds to indicate it is charging, then it will display the approx. cordless use time remaining. The display of the remaining cordless use time continues to flash until the charge capacity reaches a maximum of 40 minutes. -- A full charge will supply 40 minutes cordless runtime. -- A quick 5 minute charge gives you approx. 3 minutes cordless use, for a single stubble or beard trim. HEADS UP -- When the LED screen displays that there are 5 minutes of cordless use time remaining (“0.5”), the Timer symbol changes from orange to red, and the remaining cordless use time flashes, The Beard Designer needs to be charged. Pop it into the charging stand and it’ll be good to use again in no time. 6 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS GETTING TO KNOW YOUR NEW GROOMING TOOL The Beard Designer has been designed with a professional motor and 3D rotary cutting head for perfection in every pass. The Beard Designer has been designed for unparalleled comfort, and it can be used in different directions for keep your facial hair trimmed, smart and sophisticated. You can use The Beard Designer as a wet or dry trim, whatever suits you. A REVOLUTION IN STUBBLE + BEARD MASTERY Just like riding a bike, new things can take some practice, and The Beard Designer is no different. The more you use it, the more comfortable you become. This trimmer can be used in circular movements or you can go backwards and forwards with The Beard Designer over the face and neck. After using The Beard Designer a few times, you’ll quickly become comfortable and trimming will be a breeze. 7 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS HOW TO USE THE BEARD DESIGNER BEFORE USING • Always inspect the trimmer blades for noticeable signs of damage. • Always inspect the trimmer blades before use to ensure they are free from hair, debris etc. • Ensure the trimmer is sufficiently charged before use. SELECTING A TRIMMING LENGTH Stubble + beard mastery like a pro! The Beard Designer has a motorised chromecoated all-in-one comb guide that adjusts trimming settings in 0.2mm steps. You can easily adjust the comb guide to your desired length using the + and – buttons. There are 50 precision trimming settings from 0.4mm to 12mm, for all types of stubble and beard looks. The trimming length setting will be shown on the LED display and will adjust as you press the + and – buttons up or down. 8 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS 1. Before switching on, ensure that the 3D rotary cutting head is perfectly clipped into place before use. On/Off button once. The trimming length + cordless usage time are 2. P ress the shown on the LED display. 3. Select the desired trimming length setting using the + and – buttons. 4. Press the button a second time. The motor now switches on and you can start using The Beard Designer. 5. To switch off, hold down the button for approximately 2 seconds. The cutting length is now set for the next use. Press the button twice to start The Beard Designer again. HEADS UP The LED display screen switches off automatically after 60 seconds of disuse. If you want to switch The Beard Designer to standby mode, press the button once. SMART MEMORY FUNCTION • The Beard Designer automatically memories your last trimming setting used. • When The Beard Designer is switched on, the integrated motorised chromecoated comb guide will automatically return to the last selected trimming setting. Now that’s smart! 9 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS SMART CLEANING SYSTEM The Beard Designer features a unique self-cleaning function under running water for no-fuss maintenance. 1. To clean The Beard Designer, when switched on, press the cleaning button . The Beard Designer goes into a cleaning cycle lights up on the LED display. a. The cleaning symbol b. T o extend the time that The Beard Designer is cleaning under running water, you can press the cleaning button twice to start the cleaning cycle again, once the first cycle is finished. b. I f you want to stop the cleaning cycle, press the cleaning button once to go back to the last trimming length selected. Clip the 3D head back on to use The Beard Designer again. c. W e recommend cleaning The Beard Designer after each use and before storing. when you press the d. I f the LED display shows the cleaning symbol button, this means that The Beard Designer has not been cleaned following 15 minutes of continuous use. Press the cleaning button and clean The Beard Designer as described above. e. A fter cleaning, we recommend pressing the parking button (see PROTECTING THE BEARD DESIGNER IN STORAGE). f. A fter cleaning, we strongly recommend adding a few drops of oil to the 3 blades after use, in order to keep The Beard Designer in optimum condition. HEADS UP The Beard Designer comes with a specialized cleaning long brush to help remove any hairs from the 3D head. After trimming, use this brush to move away any hairs before using the smart cleaning function. You can also blow away any surface hairs that remain on the 3D head before or after using the smart cleaning function. 11 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS PROTECTING THE BEARD DESIGNER IN STORAGE 1. When The Beard Designer is switched on, press the parking button . will be displayed on the LED screen. The Beard The parking symbol Designer 3D head is unclipped and now descends, bringing the comb guide with it to go into the parking position, which is the ideal position in which to protect The Beard Designer’s blades and comb guide before storing. IMPORTANT NOTE: a. I f The Beard Designer has not been cleaned before you press the parking , the cleaning symbol flashes in the LED display, reminding button you to clean The Beard Designer before storage. 2. You can then put The Beard Designer onto its charging stand (still-damp). 12 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS PARK IT, TRAVEL LOCK SYSTEM The Beard Designer features a smart travel lock function that protects the 3D cutting system and comb guide when not in use, and it prevents the trimmer from being switched on and the buttons being activated accidently. for 1. To activate the locking function, press and hold down the parking button a few seconds until the lock symbol flashes. The locking function is now activated. 2. Following this, The Beard Designer will now move through its lock system, which may take up to 10 seconds: a. The Park It symbol lights up in the LED display b. The comb guide will rise progressively c. T he Beard Designer 3D head is unclipped and now descends, bringing the comb guide with it. d. The lock symbol flashes and the LED display screen will switch off. e. To deactivate the locking function, press and hold down the parking button until the LED screen shows a 3 to 1 countdown. The lock symbol then flashes and the trimming length and remaining cordless use time are now displayed. 13 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS HEADS UP • The lock function is automatically deactivated when The Beard Designer is placed into its charging stand. • The locking function can also be deactivated using the 14 button. This trimmer can be used in circular movements or you can go backwards and forwards with The Beard Designer over the face and neck, depending on what suits you. Before trimming, we recommend back combing your facial hair against the grain to lift the hairs. This will help to ensure all hair is captured when trimming. Even if you intend to use The Beard Designer as a wet trim, we recommend back combing your facial hair. MAINTAINING A BEARD OR STUBBLE LENGTH You can easily use The Beard Designer to maintain an all-over same length beard. Simply choose the desired trimming setting and let The Beard Designer do the rest, using circular cutting movements or backwards and forwards over the face and neck, whatever suits you. TRIMMING DOWN TO STUBBLE If you want to go down from a mid-length beard (approx. 10mm) to a shorter stubble look (approx. 1mm) you should cut in several steps. For example, start at 10mm length, then trim to 6mm length, then once this first stage is complete, cut down to 1mm. I.e – 10mm Ò 6mm Ò 1mm. LONGER LENGTH BEARDS For beards longer than 20mm, we recommend pre-trimming to about 15mm length. 15 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS TRIMMING ON THE NECK Always stretch the skin of the area to be trimmed. It may be easier to look up while trimming to enable all hairs to be cut. TRIMMING THE MOUSTACHE AND SIDEBURNS To trim the moustache or sideburns, stretch the skin of the area to be trimmed and only use one of the blades on an angle that feels most comfortable. U se the trimming head for eliminating hairs on the skin’s surface and for the finishing touches around the lips and contours of the face + to define the edges for your beard, stubble and/or moustache. 2. U se the foil shaver over the same areas, for a sharper, defined look around the edges. When using the foil shaver, always stretch out the skin of the area to be shaved. 16 1 2 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Possible cause Solution The LED screen display shows “HI” or “LO”. The adapter used is not suitable to charge The Beard Designer. Check that you are using the adapter supplied with The Beard Designer to charge. The LED screen display shows “ER”. A malfunction has occurred while charging The Beard Designer. Remove the appliance from its stand for an hour. If the problem continues, contact the Conair customer service team. The LED display screen shows the flashing Cleaning when you press symbol the button. The voltage automatically converts for ease of use from 100v - 240v. This appliance has an automatic internal converter which will automatically convert the voltage without the need of a switch. A suitable plug adaptor will be required, please refer to the chart below. To protect the environment, the appliance must be disposed of safely at the end of its useful life. LI-ION Please take the appliance to a recycling centre, where the internal rechargeable battery should be removed by a professional and recycled separately. For more information about the recycling of electrical and battery operated appliances, please contact your local council office or your household waste disposal service. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT RECYCLING OF ELECTRICAL AND BATTERY OPERATED APPLIANCES, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL COUNCIL OFFICE OR YOUR HOUSEHOLD WASTE DISPOSAL SERVICE. 19 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS THE BEARD DESIGNER SPARE BLADE SET In order to maintain optimum performance of The Beard Designer, we recommend that you change the blade set once a year. A kit equipped with 3 replacement blades and the necessary tools to replace the blades is available for purchase from Conair customer service or at The Shaver Shop under product code VSM050A. We recommend that all blades be replaced at once. 20 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS PREPPING THE DUAL HEAD FINISHING TRIMMER INSERTING THE BATTERY Fig. 2 -- To insert the AA lithium battery, first ensure that the trimmer is switched off, then remove the battery compartment cover on the base by rotating the bottom of the trimmer to the left and the pull downwards (Fig.2). -- Insert the AA lithium battery, negative end up. -- Replace the bottom of the trimmer and twist to the right to secure into 1 place. -- Switch the trimmer on by turning the bottom part of the trimmer towards Fig. 3 the right (Fig.3). -- If the finishing trimmer remains unused for a while or if the battery has run down, remove from the trimmer. This will increase the life of the trimmer. -- After inserting the battery, replace the battery compartment cover. -- Always purchase the correct size and grade of battery most suitable for intended use. -- Clean the battery contacts and also those of the appliance prior to battery installation. -- Ensure the battery is installed correctly with regard to polarity (+ and -). -- Exhausted batteries are to be removed from the appliance and safely disposed of. -- When the battery has run down, it should be disposed of at a recycling centre to safeguard the environment. If the battery leaks avoid touching and dispose of at a recycling centre. -- Non-rechargeable batteries are not to be recharged. -- Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not mix alkaline, standard (carton zinc), or rechargeable (nickel cadmium) batteries. -- Store unused batteries in their original packaging, away from metal objects that could short-circuit them. Never short-circuit batteries. 2 21 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS BEFORE USING -- Always inspect the trimming head for noticeable signs of damage. -- Always inspect the trimming head before use to ensure the blades are free from hair, debris etc. -- Ensure the battery is correctly inserted before use. -- Do not shave on open wounds, cuts, burns, warts, moles or on sunburned skin. -- Do not use the foil shaver if you suffer from skin irritations or infections, such as psoriasis or eczema. If at all unsure always consult your doctor before use. FINISHING TRIMMER CLEANING & MAINTENANCE Because the trimmer blades are precision made for a very special use, they should always be handled with care. To ensure long-lasting performance of your trimmer, it is important to clean the blades after every use. The shaving foil can be removed for cleaning. Remove the foil shaver by pressing the two buttons on the trimmer head, using your thumb and index finger (Fig.4). Use the cleaning brush to clean between the blades. The blades are washable for easy cleaning. To remove the trimming blades for cleaning: 1. E nsure the trimmer is turned off (Fig.5). 2 2. R emove the trimming head by turning it to the right and then pulling 1 upwards (Fig.6). 3. Take a small brush and brush away any loose hairs that have collected in the blades. 4. R inse the trimming blades under running water (Fig.7). 5. A fter cleaning, make sure to shake off excess water and dry the blades of the trimmer before replacing onto the handle. 7. To re-attach the trimming blade, align the “I” mark on the head with the “o” mark on the body and the turn to the left until the “I” mark aligns with the “l” mark on the body. To clean the handle of your trimmer, simple wipe with a cloth that has been dampened in water and mild detergent. 23 THE BEARD DESIGNER / TOOL TIPS LIMITED THREE YEAR WARRANTY Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and for compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. In New Zealand our goods come with a guarantee that cannot be excluded under the Consumer Guarantee Act 1993. Conair Australia Pty Ltd. will repair or replace (at our option) your appliance free of charge for thirty-six months from the date of purchase if the appliance is defective in workmanship or materials.
