THS8135: Optimized, Triple 10-Bit High-Speed Video D/A Converter The new THS8135 from Texas Instruments (TI) operates from 3.3-V analog and 1.8-V digital power supply levels and has three 10-bit D/A converters. With extra circuitry for bi-level/tri-level sync and blanking level generation, the THS8135 can insert a sync-ongreen/luminance channel or on all channels for video applications. Available in a range of applications,
the video/generic DAC can be used in: • STB • HD-Ready TV • Digitally Processed TV (DPTV) • Rear Projection TV • DVD Recorder, Professional Video • DVR • Standard Definition TV

Key Features • Triple 10-bit D/A converters • 240-MSPS DAC with tri-level sync • Generic triple-DAC mode for nonvideo applications • YUV/RGB configurable blanking for full or video-compliant input code range • Bi- or tri-level sync generation • Integrated insertion of sync-ongreen/luminance or sync-on-all channels
High-Speed Performance The THS8135 consistently performs at a rate up to 240 MSPS and competes decisively with the competition. The 240-MSPS rate allows 2x over-sampling for up to HDTV resolutions so that you can reduce complexity of DAC reconstruction filter and use the same part for PC graphics up to UXGA.

The device also provides EIA-770 SDTV/HDTV standards compliant analog component video output levels from a signal sampled according to ITU-R.BT601 (64940 YRGB, 64-960 CbCr code ranges). These features were not available on the THS8133. A valued, new addition to TI’s comprehensive video and imaging products, the THS8135 is an upgrade for the THS8133B and
THS8134B (8-bit), and is well suited for PC graphics formats up to UXGA (1600 x 1200) resolution at 85 Hz, as well as all DTV formats. The full-scale range of the DAC is dependent on the RGB or YCbCr operation mode of the device, and full video output swing is reached when driving the device with code range 64-940 for Y, R, G and B channels; and code range 64-960 for Cb & Cr channels.
The part is available in a 48-pin TQFP package and is specified over an operating temperature range of 0º C to 70ºC. For More Information If you would like more information on using the THS8135 in your next video graphics application, please contact your local TI field sales office, or visit: www.ti.com/sc/videoimaging
