TICKTON C of E PRIMARY SCHOOL Weekly News Eco Club ask that you recycle this newsletter DATES AND EVENTS FOR YOUR DIARY: Week beginning Monday 9th May 2011 Assessment Week Children in year 6 will be sitting their end of key stage 2 tests Monday – Thursday. Please ensure that they have plenty of sleep and a hearty breakfast each day. Children in year 3 – 5 will also be sitting tests at intervals during the week. Creative Partnership Gary Hammond will be in school on Tuesday to work alongside Class R and 6 on their percussion and maths project. Chris Webster, the digital media artist will also be in school working alongside Class 5 on their film project. Orchestra, Key Stage 2 Choir and Developing Recorders The children will be performing at Beverley Memorial Hall on Sunday 15th to an audience of elderly Beverley residents. The concert has been organised by Beverley Lions and we feel sure that it will be a memorable occasion both for our children and the members of the local community. Judo Judo will restart on Tuesday 17th May. If your child is interested please come along at 8.00 for a free trial session. (Year 1 upwards). Car Park Please do not use the school car park – this area is out of bounds to parents and children at all times. Thank you. Lip balm If children have sore or chapped lips they may bring into school a non-perfumed, uncoloured lip balm stick to apply and ease their discomfort. We have reviewed our policy on this in response to parental requests therefore I hope that everyone will follow the accepted type. Any deemed unsuitable will be returned home in an envelope. Scoot to school / Walk to School week You have probably noticed the new storage shed near Main Street gate that has been installed over the holiday, this will be used to store scooters in during the school day as we will be trialling children using their scooters to travel to school during the summer term. It is our ongoing aim to continue to reduce the congestion outside school and we hope that by providing this option it may help. Younger children (Class R,1 and 2) will be expected to be accompanied by an adult, key stage 2 children not accompanied by an adult will be allowed to ‘scoot’ to school once they have signed up to a scooter licence scheme. If you are happy for your child to use their scooter independently please request a licence (either by contacting school or asking your child to collect one from the office) complete and return the authorisation. The licence clearly outlines the expectations and requirements as well as the consequences if children do not follow the rules. We shall be talking to the children about this new scheme in assembly and hope that they as well as yourselves will help monitor children’s safe use of their scooters, reporting any unsafe practise to staff at school. During the trial period we will work on a rota basis with families with the surname A-D scoot on Monday, E-H Tuesday, J – N Wednesday, O – S Thursday and T – Z Friday. This will begin on Monday 16th May which coincides with walk to school week. Once again we will be asking children to participate in this, either walking all the way from home or from the Park & Stride point at the GL Cullington field at the top of the village or the New Inn car park. Parking I have been asked to remind parents who use the village hall car park to please be extra cautious. It has been noticed that some drivers are exceeding the speed limit and seem unaware that very young children are around entering the village hall for pre-school. Thank you for your co-operation. Mend We have been asked bring to your attention the MEND programme which is a fun, confidence building, low level physical activity programme aimed at young people aged between 7-13 who are above their ideal weight.
