Wear appropriate footwear. Shoes must be fully enclosed, no open toes. E.g. sandals Close fitting clothes must be worn. Remove strings hanging from pullovers/sweaters. Aprons must be worn. Long and loose hair must be tied back. SAFE WORK PROCEDURE DO NOT use this machine unless a teacher has instructed you on its safe use and operation and has given permission. PRE-USE INSTRUCTIONS: 1. All students should be shown how to operate the unit correctly prior to first use. 2. Inspect the electrical components prior to use ensuring that the electrical cord is in good condition, the ground plug is in place and that the electrical switches are working properly. 3. Ensure that the power cord is located away from other hot components and do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or counter. 4. Install the toaster on a level surface. SAFE WORK PROCEDURE TOASTER Page 2 of 2 5. Oversized foods, metal foil packages or utensils must not be inserted into the toaster as they may result in fire or electric shock. 6. Adjust the toast shade selector to the desired setting. 7. Choose the type of bread to be toasted (if applicable). 8. Plug in the toaster into a standard wall outlet. OPERATING PROCEDURE: 1. Place the bread slices or other food into the slots and press down the toast lever until it locks in place. The bread guides will automatically guide and hold the bread in place. 2. When the toast is done the toast control lever goes up and the unit shuts off. 3. Remove the toast from toaster using tongs. The toast will be very hot. Do not use your hands to remove the toast from the toaster. 4. To clear a jam, turn the power switch off and disconnect the power supply. Allow the toaster adequate time to cool down. Move the toast lever up and down a few times to raise the jammed food. 5. To interrupt toasting at any time either press the cancel button (if your machine has one) or move the toast lever up. CLEAN UP: 1. Clean the toaster by: Turning off the power switch, disconnecting the power supply and allowing the toaster to cool down. Remove the crumb tray from the bottom of the toaster and clean in warm sudsy water and dry. 2. Wipe the outside of the toaster with a damp cloth. Allow adequate time for all components to cool before returning the toaster to storage. If and emergency situation occurs while conducting this task or there is an equipment malfunction, shut the equipment off immediately and unplug it.
