Clampsticks and Accessories Single-Piece Style
Hinged Style
The most versatile tool in a lineworker’s hands, the Chance Grip-All stick puts an easy-to-control “finger” on an insulated pole. Although primarily designed for installing hot-line and grounding clamps, it serves both overhead and underground circuits with various end fittings.
Ideal for troubleshooters with limited tool-storage space in their vehicle, this folding version operates with the same features as the one-piece style.
Commonly called a “shotgun,” the operating mechanism incorporates a sliding hand grip that opens the hook to grasp a clamp eyescrew and retract it into the tool head. A thumb latch then must be depressed to release the locked hand grip so it can open the hook.

While the tool head is of Lexan® for close-quarter operations, the worker must maintain recommended working distance solely on the Epoxiglas® pole section of the handles as the hook and its actuator are metal parts. Easy to care for, Grip-All sticks do not require field stripping to clean. All insulated parts including the operating rod are outside the main pole, readily accessible to wipe dry. CAUTION: Do not clean the plastic head with solvent. P/N 0704-20132 9000-40302 9000-30293 9000-30294 9000-30295

Grip-All Clampstick Assist Ring
Grip-All Extensions
The Chance assist ring provides a suspension midpoint for any Grip-All stick. Particularly helpful on longer sticks, the assembly permits a support line to attach at the smaller ring. To help maintain safe-working clearances for hotline procedures, an insulated Strain Link Stick of proper size should be used in the handline.
These extensions simply clamp on to the head of a Chance Grip-All clampstick, adding 4 to 6 feet of reach, and operates by using the controls on the Grip-All handle.

Clampsticks and Accessories Cont. Telescoping Style
Positive Grip Clampstick
Chance Telescoping Grip-All sticks can replace several conventional clampsticks. With fewer sticks, it still permits linemen to serve their many safe working distances and positioning needs. This can reduce the number of clampsticks required on a line truck, saving limited storage space.
The Chance Epoxiglas® Positive Grip Clampstick is made for use on eyescrew grounding on tap clamps. It can be mounted on the line and tightened at angles up to 30°. Fittings are aluminum and bronze. The butt end of the tool is equipped with a combination tool hanger and universal head.
Engineered interface between sections ensure that tool retracts with full control. Close fit also helps keep out dirt and moisture. Top section is of foam-center Epoxiglas® insulated pole.
To install clamp, align locking ring with slot in housing; place eye of clamp into housing. Holding locking ring and clamp in one hand, rotate pole clockwise to trap eye. To remove clamp, engage locking ring on clamp body and rotate pole counter-clockwise to trap eye.
Basic clampstick functions of this telescoping stye are identical to the fixed-length style. All controls can be manipulated while wearing gloves. Easy to disassemble, the Telescoping Grip-All stick must be kept clean and dry inside and out for maximum personnel protection.

Wire-Holding Stick The Chance Epoxiglas® Wire-Holding Stick is used on or around energized lines for forming, bending and positioning jumper wires; and for holding conductors during splicing operations. The gripper, with an eye so that other sticks can assist with heavy bending, will handle No. 6 solid copper through 1590 kcmil ACSR. Operation of the wire-holding stick has been simplified so that it grips much like a vise-grip. By tightening the knurled nut at the control lever, the wire holding jaws can be positioned to grip the conductor firmly. When this is done, the tightening control lever must be relaxed in a position about one inch away from the pole. Then, to secure the grip on the conductors simply move the control lever all the way up along the rod. The head of the tool locks in three stop positions so that the lineman can engage and position conductors easily from most angles. The knurled screw handle below the jaw opening is used to adjust the head position from straight to right or left.

Elbow Puller Tools and Accessories Impact Elbow-Puller
Arc Snuffer Removal & Replacement Tools
This lightweight Chance tool employs a simple, slidehammer mechanism to easily disengage and assist in replacing elbows. The tool and grippers help the operator control the elbow and stiff underground cable lead.
Without de-energizing URD bushings, these two Chance hot-line tools permit easy retrieval of broken arc snuffers and installation of replacements.
For a balanced grip the 5-pound slide hammer is Plastisol coated and flared at both ends. Also for secure handling, both front and rear handgrip areas of the pole are coated with Griptread, a grit-filled rubber-base paint. Available in three lengths, the tools are made of 1 1/4” diameter orange Epoxiglas® pole. The 6 and 8 foot units meet OSHA requirements with 25 and 48 inches of insulation respectively from the tool end to the handguard. On the 4 1/2 foot unit (labeled “For Rubber Glove Use Only”) insulation length measures 5 inches. To pull an elbow connector insert hook through eye on elbow. Close down grippers on elbow by rotating pole. Support tool with one hand on front grip behind handguard and other hand on slide hammer. Slam hammer from front to rear anvil. Resulting impact should release elbow with sufficient momentum to withdraw it from the bushing without extended arcing. To replace an elbow connector follow the same procedures for pulling except use slide hammer impact against front anvil to help seat the elbow.
Designed to ensure adequate electrical clearances, both tools are to be used expressly in a Grip All clampstick. Intergal ring on each tool retracts into clampstick. Tool bodies are high-impact plastic with steel inserts. The removal tool works on the principle of a bolt extractor. Inserted into a damaged arc snuffer, it permits retrieval by unscrewing the broken part. The replacement tool controls alignment with a spring-action center post that snaps into the arc snuffer bore. Two steel lugs of the tool engage holes in the snuffer collar to transmit tightening torque. P/N 9000-30236 9000-30237

Telescoping Measuring and Disconnect Sticks Cont. Telescoping Disconnect Tools These Chance Epoxiglas® Telescoping Tools have maximum convenience for the lineman because they permit him to perform many routine jobs from ground level. The universal end fitting on the insulated top section accepts a wide variety of attachments so the lineman can disconnect switches, replace cutout tubes and reclose, remove pole covers, prune trees, replace bulbs and complete many other overhead tasks. The sticks retract to approximately 5’ so that they can be carried on most trouble trucks, often in the cab section. They have heavy duty, spring-loaded plastic buttons that keep the extended tool sections securely locked in position. As each section is extended and twisted slightly, the buttons pop into place, allowing working to be done with complete control and confidence. These sticks are offered in standard and heavy duty. Both units use the same telescoping tube design. The tip section of the heavy duty units is slightly larger in diameter (1 1/4” versus 1 1/16”) so that each telescoping tube is slightly larger, resulting in a more rigid tool when fully extended, important where additional weight may be frequently encountered on maintenance tasks. Both tip sections employ time-proved Epoxiglas®, the unicellular foam-core material where the epoxy reinforced fiberglass wall is built around the foam core to prevent any moisture trapping voids that could build up between foam and tool. Telescoping Measuring and Disconnect Sticks Cont. Heavy-Duty Adjustable Sticks Clearly marked at each 1-ft. extension lock, one of these Chance tools can replace as many as eight single-length hotsticks. Especially for such tight confines as substations, these adjustable sticks can be stored in standardlength canisters and avoid the difficulties of working extra-long sticks through busswork structures.
Switch-Style Head
These sticks are classified as heavy-duty due to their large (1 1/4” diameter) insulated top section and 1 1/2” O.D. epoxy-reinforced fiberglass base tube. In each size, a 2-foot section of the Epoxiglas® foam-core top section remains inside the base section at the longest locked, usable length. Also at the shortest locked length, the insulated top section extends a full 2 feet beyond the base. High-strength-plastic buttons keep these tools locked at each length. As the top section is extended and twisted, the lock button pops into place. For one worker to quickly adjust the length, a convenient alignment dot at 1-ft. setting on the insulated section matches another dot at the top of the base section.

Disconnect and Universal Sticks Disconnect Sticks Chance disconnect sticks provide insulation safety for linemen in opening and closing disconnect switches and cutouts. They are also used for installing and removing open-link fuse links.
Switch Stick Head Style
Poles are made of Epoxiglas® and NEMA-standard heads of cast bronze in three types: switch head, disconnect head, or spliced disconnect head. For convenience in transporting and/or where greater length is required, spliced disconnect sticks are available. The splice is strong and rigid, easy to put together and easy to take apart. The taking-down feature of these sticks makes them especially handy to carry on line trucks or in tool trailers. Also available is the fiberglass head disconnect stick, which gives the additional insulation required for work where bus and disconnect switch spacings are confined, as in indoor substations.

Universal Poles and Tool Hangers Universal Poles Designed for use as a hot stick handle for Universal Tools, Chance Universal Poles are made of Epoxiglas® and lightweight aluminum castings. The Universal Tools on this page fit under the thumbscrew of the spline on the Universal Pole for a rigid hot stick tool. For job versatility, the splines allow angling the tool up to 90° in relation to the pole depending upon the individual tool design. The Storm Tool, a Universal Pole with special rubber insulator skirts, is designed for emergency use. It provides extra leakage distance and disrupts water paths when rain, sleet, or snow make regular tools hazardous. Skirts break up streams that would otherwise run down the pole. Description Moisture Eater Cleaner

Moisture Eater II Wipes Small pocket-size packets encourage frequent cleaning of insulated hot-line tools, line hose and rubber blankets. This helps utilities stay in compliance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.269 (j).
The convenience of sealed wipes means no more rags to store or try to keep clean in the field. The disposable wipes are easy to use. Just zip open a foil packet, pull out the silicone saturated 8”x10” lint-free towel and wipe down a hotstick. Chance Silicone Wipes contain the same silicone that impregnates hot stick wiping cloths in the Epoxiglas® Cleaning Kit. Using the cloths or Silicone Wipes on fiberglass tools removes dust and deposits a thin protective coat that helps resist accumulation of dirt and other airborne contaminants.
The sealed wipes mean no more rags to store or try to keep clean in the field; no more jugs to stow, big spills, evaporation losses or wasteful excesses just to wet large cloths. The hanger box holds 50 wipes to keep them handy in crew bays, on trailers, or in trucks.

Hot Stick Care and Storage Accessories Cont. Epoxiglas® Cleaning Kit
Hot Stick Storage Tubes
The items contained in the Chance Epoxiglas® cleaning kit are essential for the care and maintenance of Epoxiglas® tools and insulated boom sections of aerial lift trucks. The proper use of these maintenance aids will ensure that maximum and useful life is obtained from Epoxiglas® products. WARNING: Do not use on Gel-Coat or painted
Chance Hot Stick Storage Tubes are gray linear polyethylene with aluminum end caps and plated hardware. The tubes are furnished with mounting hardware so they can be installed on substation fences or line trucks.
boom surfaces.
Both end caps have two breather vents to permit condensation or other moisture to evaporate or drain out. Vents will not permit insects to enter tube but will let moisture out. The tube should be installed with the fixed end cap about 1” above the open end so any condensation will drain out the bottom vent in the cap. Tools stored in these tubes are protected against weather, dirt and ultraviolet attack. The polyethylene material is the same that is used in Chance conductor covers, except the color is gray. The gray color was selected to combat ultraviolet damage to the tube itself and to blend with substation fences. The polyethylene has a temperature range of -100°F to 180°F.
P/N 9000-99871 Epoxiglas® Cleaning Kit
The kit consists of four parts: Moisture Eater II - This cleaner should be used on contaminated Epoxiglas® during general tool maintenance and in prepation for reglossing a tool’s surface. Moisture Eater removes moisture and a wide variety of contaminants such as dirt, tar, grease, tree sap, light metal rubbings and old surface coatings without harming the Epoxiglas® material.
The end cap, which can be opened by turning two wing screws, will not fall to the ground when opened to insert or remove a hot line tool, as the cap is secured to the tube. The cap on the other end is permanently secured to the tube.
Abrasive Cleaning Pads - These pads are used in conjunction with Moisture Eater to remove contamination that clings to the tools surface. Gloss restorer must be applied after using these pads since cleaning with Moisture Eater 2 will remove the glossy finish on the tool as well as contamination. The pads may also be used on metal parts to remove oxides and surface corrosion. Gloss Restorer Kit - This kit consists of two parts. When mixed and applied to the surface of a cleaned Epoxiglas® tool they combine to form a clear, tough coating that replaces the original gloss and protects against contamination and moisture. Hot Stick Wiping Clothes - Silicone impregnated cloths are used to wipe down mildly contaminated Epoxiglas®, removing dust and dirt, and depositing a thin protective film on the surface of the tool. They give an added measure of protection when used after recoating with gloss restorer.

Covers Pole Covers These pole covers are used to help protect personnel when raising or lowering a pole between energized lines or to cover poles when rubber glove maintenance is performed in relatively confined areas. The covers are made of high-dielectric linear polyethylene material that will not flash flame. This material will have some softening without deformation at approximately 170°F, and it will resist brittleness at temperatures to -50°F. All Chance pole covers are ribbed to reduce cover contact with the pole, thus minimizing creosote contamination. The rope handles permit personnel to easily spread the covers and snap them around the pole; rubber gloves must be worn during this procedure. Ferrules and Jumper Cables Grounding Ferrules
Jumper Clamps
Shrouded ferrules overlap onto the grounding cable jacket for stress relief to the terminal. Two crimps secure the ferrule against the bare strands and one crimp applies on the jacket. Unshrouded ferrules are available with shrink tubing that overlaps the bare cable conductor and jacket for stress relief. Available either factory-installed in pairs on any cable length specified or as separate individual units, the ferrules install simply with a hydraulic crimping tool. Complete illustrated installation instructions come with the ferrules and include a table for the crimping die sizes to use.
The G4758 series jumper clamp has a handle length of 5.625” below the handguard. The bearing type floating washer lower contact improves gripping action and prevents conductor scoring. All metal parts are made of copper alloy to improve resistance to oxidation. The 300 amp continuous current rating is based on using 2/0 jumper cable on the tap side. Voltage Class 15 kV Main Line Range: 162” to .721” Jumper Cable Range: #2 to 2/0 Cable Weight / Ea. 2.25 lb P/N 9700-40135
The G4765 series jumper clamp has the same polyethylene material in the handle as other Chance jumper clamps. The handle length below the handguard is 7.5”. The 400 amp continuous current rating is based on using 4/0 jumper cable on the tap side.
