Assembly / Connection of wind sensors
Ä
ATTENTION! It is not permitted to have two different types of wind sensors or other manufacturers’ wind sensors connected at the same time. This may cause serious personal injury or damage to property.
Operation The wind sensor is used for recording non-directional measurements of outdoor horizontal air flow. The wind sensor has a compact design and is fitted with a reed contact which converts the wind speed into an electrical signal. These signals are produced by the reed contact which is closed by a magnetic field. A shaft, which is attached to the anemometer and runs in a ball or plain bearing, passes the magnet over the reed contact at a frequency which is proportional to the anemometer speed, and therefore also to the wind speed. The measured values are converted into digital electrical signals and transmitted to the control system. It is also possible to detect a rupture of the wind sensor cable.
Choice of assembly location Wind gauge devices should generally cover the wind conditions within a wide perimeter. In order to obtain comparable values when determining surface wind, measuring should take place at a height of 10 m above level, undisturbed ground. Undisturbed ground means that the distance between the wind sensor and any obstacle should be at least ten times the height of the obstacle (see VDI 3786). If it is not possible to comply with this requirement, the wind sensor should be set up at a height at which the measured values are, as far as possible, not influenced by local obstacles (approx. 6 m to 10 m above disturbance level). In the case of flat roofs, the wind sensor should be set up in the middle of the roof and not at the roof edge in order to avoid possible prevailing wind directions.
Maintenance / Cleaning If the device is subject to extreme weather conditions, it may only be assembled and operated in a vertical position, otherwise water could penetrate the device and impair its function. If the device is installed properly, it will work maintenance-free. If the sensor becomes excessively soiled, it can be cleaned with standard household cleaning products as long as they do not contain any aggressive or abrasive ingredients.
Cable lengths If the 5 m signal cable is too short, it can be extended up to 100 m using the same cross section.

Assembly of the wind sensor The wind sensor is installed either with the aluminium mounting bracket article-no. 01100510 or with the plastic mounting bracket article-no. 01271020. Align so that the cable inlet is pointing downwards. Use clips, cable ties or similar fasteners to attach the measuring cable securely to the mounting bracket so that the cable cannot be damaged by flapping and fraying during high winds.
Information for the installer – Control box Terminals The two wind sensors are connected to the terminals Wind 1 and GND and Wind 2 and GND at the control box. The polarity of the wind sensors is not important for connection.
Ä
ATTENTION! It is not permitted to have two different types of wind sensors connected at the same time. Is no wind sensor connected, the terminals of the windsensor have to be bridged by a wire bridge.
Assembly / Connection of lux sensors Operation The lux sensor is used to record natural light intensity and is adjusted to eye sensitivity. The measured sun intensity is transformed into electrical analogue signals. These are evaluated by the control system, which triggers the corresponding control commands.
Assembly of lux sensor LS 30 The lux sensor LS 30 can be installed on the aluminium mounting bracket article-no. 01100510, on the plastic mounting bracket article-no. 01271020, or using the angled aluminium mounting bracket supplied. Align so that the cable inlet is pointing downwards. Use clips, cable ties or similar fasteners to attach the measuring cable securely to the mounting bracket so that the cable cannot be damaged by flapping and fraying during high winds.

Figure: Connection samples for wind sensors
Information for the installer – Control box Choice of assembly location The lux sensor LS 30 has a sensing range of approx. 120°. When assembling the lux sensor, attention must be paid to obstacles which might distort the sun intensity and therefore influence the measured values. In the case of large building façades, there should always be two lux sensors installed at an angle of 45° to each other. This will ensure optimal sun intensity detection throughout the year.

Information for the installer – Control box
Assembly / Connection of rain sensors Operation The rain sensor records both moisture on the sensor surface and decreases in outside temperature to below +1 °C or -20 °C. Its sensitivity can be set electronically. The measured precipitation is transformed into electrical digital signals. These are evaluated by the control system, which triggers the corresponding control commands. The sensor surface is heated for faster drying. This significantly reduces the time until the “rain end” message and, if necessary, the sunshading devices can be re-extended immediately.
Rain sensor +1 °C, article-no. 010830 If the outside temperature lies between approx. +1 °C and +30 °C and rain is detected, the sensor surface will be heated to aid drying. In the case of higher temperatures or frost, there will be no heating. If the temperatures are below +1 °C, frost will be recorded and the connected systems will be retracted or closed and manual operation will be blocked.
Assembly of rain sensor +1 °C or rain sensor -20 °C The rain sensor can be easily installed onto the aluminium mounting bracket article-no. 01100510 using the angled mounting bracket supplied. Use clips, cable ties or similar fasteners to attach the measuring cable securely to the mounting bracket so that the cable cannot be damaged by flapping and fraying during high winds.
Choice of assembly location The rain sensor should be mounted using the supplied bracket such that the surface of the sensor is directed towards the weather side. It should be angled at around 15 degrees so that large water droplets run off quickly and the sensor’s rain signal is quickly reset following a shower.
Maintenance / Cleaning If the device is subject to extreme weather conditions, it may only be assembled at angle of around 15 degrees, otherwise water could penetrate the device over a long period of time and impair its function. If the device is installed properly, it will work maintenance-free. If the rain sensor becomes excessively soiled, it can be cleaned with standard household cleaning products as long as they do not contain any aggressive or abrasive ingredients.
Cable lengths The signal cable can be extended up to 100 m with a cross section of 0.8 mm2.

Rain sensor -20 °C, article-no. 010825 If the outside temperature lies between approx. +1 °C and +30 °C and rain is detected, the sensor surface will be heated to aid drying. In the case of higher temperatures, there will be no heating; if the outside temperature is between approx. -20 °C and approx. +1 °C, the sensor surface will be heated continuously. The connected systems will remain operational even in the case of temperatures down to -20 °C (if no rain).

This makes it impossible for the façades to be operated locally by using a local button. The FIRE input connection is made via a floating NC contact from the smoke/fire alarm centre. If the control box is not connected to a smoke/fire alarm centre, a wire bridge must be positioned at the fire input between the terminals FIRE and GND.
Cable lengths The maximum cable length when using cable JY ST (Y) 2 × 2 × 0.8 is 100 m.

NOTE! In case of TE Indoor and TE Outdoor assignment, display of temperature is not possible. Following temperature settings are disabled.
Information for the user – Control system warning signals Fire alarm (alert) A fire alarm that has been triggered will be displayed as shown in the adjacent image. If the manual reset option has been selected for the fire alarm, the fire alarm must be reset both at the fire alarm centre and on the display. If the automatic reset option has been selected, the fire alarm will automatically reset itself after resetting at the fire alarm centre.
Wind sensor cable rupture If the wind sensor connection cable is damaged, this fault will be indicated on the display. The display will then change to show the sensor error with details of that sensor. The sunshade controlled by the defective sensor will then retract immediately and will remain in the retracted position until the fault is repaired. This will happen automatically.
The warning signals may be reset with button again
but after one hour they will be displayed
48 h wind sensor alarm If the externally mounted wind sensors do not send any signal for a period of 48 hours, this will be indicated on the display. This warns you that you need to check the wind sensor(s). In this case, test that the wind vanes are turning smoothly by pushing them by hand. If, after this test, the display does not change, you cannot be guaranteed safe use of the sunshade. We recommend that you turn off the control system and ensure that it cannot be operated unintentionally Lux sensor cable rupture If the lux sensor connection cable is damaged, this fault will be indicated on the display. The display will then change to show the sensor error with details of that sensor.
Temperature sensor cable rupture If the connection cable for the temperature sensor TS Pro XL is damaged, this fault will be indicated on the display. The display will then change to show the sensor error with details of that sensor.
