TRIO 6+ 2-5 players 20+ min. Contents: Game board, 18 balls of ice cream in 3 colours, 5 cherries in different colours, 24 cards and 1 die. Aim of the game Try to place 3 ice cream balls on top of each other on one ice cream cone, in the same order as shown on one of your open cards. If you manage to do this you can discard that card. The player who is the first to get rid of all his/her cards wins the game. Game preparations Spread the game board on the table and shuffle the cards. If there are 5 players, deal 4 cards to each player. If there are 2-4 players, deal 6 cards to each player. All remaining cards are discarded to the game box. The players place their cards in a face-down pile in front of them, and turn two top cards face up beside the pile. These two cards are the player’s open cards. Each player takes one cherry. Choose one ice cream cone on the game board and start placing the ice cream balls on the cones, so that the balls are in following sequence: green (pear), yellow (banana), red (strawberry), green, yellow, red etc. When all the cones have one ball on them, place the 3 remaining balls (one of each colour) on top of some similar coloured balls, so that there are 3 taller ‘towers’ (see picture above). How to play The youngest player begins. The turn proceeds in clockwise order. The player whose turn it is rolls the die and moves the ice cream balls of his/her choice clockwise on the game board. The number shown by the die can be distributed between different balls. You don’t have to use all the steps shown by the die. Example: The die shows 3. You can move either - 1 ball 3 steps or - 3 balls 1 step each or - 1 ball 2 steps and 1 ball 1 step (see pictures below). If there is more than 1 ball on a cone, you must move the top ball first. On one cone there can be maximum 3 balls on top of each other. When you move balls on the game board, jump over the cones that have 3 balls on them. Note! This is not counted as a step. On each card is a picture of a cone with 3 ice cream balls. If you manage to place on your turn 3 balls on top of each other in the exact same order as shown on one of your open cards, you can discard that card and place it in the middle of the game board. If you just discarded a card but you still have some steps left to use, you can use the steps to move any ice cream balls on the game board (also the same balls that you just placed in the right order). If some other player has placed 3 balls on top of each other in the same order as shown on one of your open cards, you can not discard that card; you must always place the last ball on top on your own turn. You cannot discard more than 2 cards on one turn, because you can take new open cards from your pile only when your turn has ended (see New cards). Cherries With the cherry you can block the ice cream balls on a cone. If you notice at the end of your turn – when you have moved the ice cream balls (and discarded cards if possible) – that there are 2 balls on a cone in exactly the same order as the 2 lower balls on one of your open cards, you can place your cherry on top of these 2 balls – but only then! Now you have blocked this cone from all the other players, i.e. nobody can move a ball from or to this cone until it’s your next turn. It doesn’t matter who has placed the ice cream balls on the cone. The only thing that matters is that the balls are in the same order as the 2 lower balls on one of your open cards. The player who has blocked a cone removes the cherry immediately when his/her next turn begins. Note! When you are moving balls on the game board, jump over the blocked cones. This is not counted as a step New cards If you have just discarded 1 or 2 open cards, take as many new cards from your pile, so that there are again 2 cards face up in front of you. Do this when you have placed your cherry on the board (if possible) and your turn has ended. After taking a new card you are not allowed to place or move your cherry on the game board. End of the game and the winner The game ends when one of the players discards his/her last open card. That player wins the game.
