PC CABLE QUICK CHECK
2. Introduction The PC Cable Quick Check is a universal cable tester that can test any cable with up to 25 conductors. The Quick Check provides a simple check and wiring configuration for any combination of USB Type A, USB Type B, DB9, DB15, DB15 HD, DB25, Centronics 36, and RJ-45 telephone plugs. In addition, RG58 or RG59 BNC can be checked with a simple PASS/FAIL test with full diagnostic evaluation displayed if the cable fails. Your PC Cable Quick Check should also include a 9-volt battery. PC CABLE QUICK CHECK
3. Operation 1. Make sure the battery has been connected. (Only use a standard 9-volt battery.) Turn on the switch on the bottom of the Quick Check. 2. Connect your cable to the PC Cable Quick Check. The cable’s connector with the largest number of pins should be connected to the green input side (except for Centronics printer cables, where the DB25 end should be connected to the input side). 3. Repeatedly press the cable select button until the red indicator selects the connector size connected to the green side. 4. The Quick Check will indicate the shield connected if both red lights are on. 5. Press the TEST button to cycle through each individual connection to test for continuity. When there is a red light on the orange side, it shows the continuity and wiring configuration of the red light on the green side. For some cables there are a number of red lights that will indicate multiple connections. No red light on the orange side means no connection.
NOTE The lights will go out if the selection is discontinued to save battery life. To restart, press the TEST button and continue the existing test or start a new test by repeating the procedure.
6. To test coax RG58/59 BNC cables, connect the cable and read the display in the lower left corner. Either a green PASS light will show, or a red light will indicate a FAIL and supply the reason. 7. Consult your equipment manuals for the correct wiring configuration for your cable, or look in the table that starts on the next page.

PC CABLE QUICK CHECK This table shows some common cables and their connectors. To find the correct pinning for each cable, look in the “Pinout” column. The number there refers to one of the pinouts that start on page 7.
