Compact AutoQuad Tower Top Amplifier System 428-83H-01 The New Compact AutoQuadTM Tower-Top Amplifier System has been designed to insure the highest degree of reliability for Critical Infrastructure applications. In order to reduce size while providing for an unprecedented 120 dB of isolation, filtering has been split between the TTA and the base unit, with the LNA's and other circuitry integrated into the filters. This unique quadrature-coupled LNA, with a separate power circuit for each half of the amplifier provides component redundancy as well as unsurpassed IM performance. Microprocessor-controlled fault detection circuitry provides continuous monitoring and switching of each quad- LNA, while sending operational data to the base unit panel for at-aglance status reporting and form-C contact switching for alarm integration. Also included is a web-based Ethernet interface for system programming, facilitating acceptance testing, alarm status and system software upgrades. A special PolyPhaser lightning protector is provided with this TTA for installation at the transmission line entry bulkhead/grounding plate. This unit not only passes the DC current required to operate the TTA, but also generates the low frequency subcarrier used for the standard AISG/EIA-485 data communication between the base unit and the TTA. A standard CAT-5 data cable must be installed between the base unit and this surge arrestor. The TTA will operate normally with all backup functionality intact if this data cable is not installed, damaged or removed, but status and alarms will not be available at the base. Also, proper installation of this system requires the installation of a test transmission line in addition to the main receive line for system testing and diagnostics. The system will operate normally if this transmission line is not installed or becomes damaged, except an alarm will be continuously set. Y R A N I M I L E PR Standard Features: • Tower amplifier in compact weatherproof stainless steel enclosure (NEMA 4x). • Integrated high performance filter/LNA covers 792-824 MHz for full Public Safety coverage. • Redundant Quadrature LNA's and automatic solid-state backup switching for the highest reliability. • Test Port allows gain, sensitivity and desensitization measurements from ground level. • Solid-state RF switches are used throughout the TTA for higher reliability. • PolyPhaser® impulse suppressors on all tower box I/O ports. • Special PolyPhaser surge arrestor supporting AISG subcarrier data transmission provided for installation at the transmission line entry bulkhead. • One rack-unit microprocessor-controlled control unit (CMU) or multicoupler (MCU.) • Integrated programmable attenuators for setting reserve gain and receiver cable loss compensation. • Multifunction LCD readout and multicolored, panel-mounted LEDs for status reporting. • Form C contacts for fault reporting through a supervisory system are available through a connector on the rear of the control-panel. • Ethernet connector on front panel for programming, fast ATP mode switching and alarm details. • Wide input range AC power standard. System Specifications 16 dB reserve gain and 6 dB transmission line loss assumed Available Options: • Rack-mounted narrow band filters to further limit the multicoupler bandwidth. • -48 Volt power operation. • CMU only configuration or Rx Multicoupler configuration Bandwidth 792-824 MHz System Noise Figure 2.9 dB Typ, 3.5dB Max 3rd Order IIP > 15 dBm Reserve Gain Fully settable by electronic attenuator Rejection 110 dB min, 120 dB nominal at 776 and 851 MHz Net Weight 30.5 lbs for TTA + MCU Ship Weight 42 lbs Bird® Technologies Group combines the industry leading brands of both Bird Electronic and TX RX Systems and is a global, innovative supplier of RF products, systems, services and educational solutions. Test Port The Test Port provides an RF path from the BNC connector to an isolated 42 dB port at the input to the LNA. The base controller software provides 2 test modes: 1. Default - Normal mode, Test Port connected to 42 dB port on LNA while coupled to the preselector and receive antenna. 2. Desense - As above, but LNA input switched into a 50-ohm load. This allows checking for external interference or desensitization with minimal disruption to the system. Test modes automatically time out back to Default mode after 5 minutes unless conducting ATP tests via the Ethernet interface. 7-pole TEM bandpass with cross-coupling < 0.8 dB > 60 dB @ 776 and 851MHz Preselector Type Loss Rejection 2-stage Quadrature integrated into filter 26 dB 1.2 dB 18 dBm LNA Type Gain Noise Figure 3rd Order Input IP: Impedance: 50 ohms Antenna Port VSWR: Power Requirements: <1.5 :1 12 VDC @ 1.25 A Lightning Protection: Impulse suppressor on all external connectors Operating Temperature Range: -30°C to +60°C MECHANICAL Electronic Attenuators The base unit incorporates one or two electronically programmable attenuators to allow the installer to optimize performance. One, present on both models, sets TTA System Reserve Gain. The other, on models including the Receiver Multicoupler, allows proper compensation for multicoupler-to-receiver cable loss (zero multicoupler gain.) The attenuation range is 0 - 15.5 dB in 0.5 dB increments for Reserve Gain and 0 - 4 dB in 0.5 dB increments for cable loss compensation. The Test Port and electronic attenuators are operated via membrane switches integrated into the front panel. The LCD display indicates the mode that is active and/or the attenuation that is set. All adjustment and test modes accessed from the front panel will time out and return the system to normal operation after 5 minutes. Optional Filters Optional filters are available to provide a narrower window ahead of the receiver multicoupler in order to achieve better selectivity for the system.
