To enable the Auto-off feature, press and hold the Backlight button while powering the unit on until you hear two short beeps. To disable the Auto-off feature, press and hold the Backlight button while powering the unit on until one long beep is heard. MAX/MIN Functions The TW8060 includes a Max/Min function. While the unit is powered on, it will continuously record the maximum and minimum recorded temperature for both input channels. The Max/Min temperatures will be stored until cleared by the user, even if the meter is powered off. To view the maximum temperature for both channels, press the MAX/MIN button once. The maximum temperatures will be displayed for both channels. If you press the MAX/MIN button again, the minimum temperatures will be displayed. Press the MAX/MIN button again to return to the main display.
To clear the Max/Min temperatures, press and hold the MAX/ MIN button for 3 seconds. CLER will be displayed momentarily. Note: if the maximum or minimum display shows OL, clear the Max/Min function and continue. It is recommended to reset the maximum and minimum temperatures after replacing probes. OL will display if a probe is not connected or has failed. Setting the High/Low Alarm Limits: The high and low alarm can only be set on channel 1 (T1). To set the high and low alarm values, press the HI/LO button on the front panel. The high limit will be displayed. Press the up and down arrows to adjust to the maximum temperature desired. Press the HI/LO button again and the low limit will be displayed. Once again, use the up and down arrows to adjust the minimum temperature required. To cancel the high and low limit and return the unit to the factory settings, press and hold the HI/LO button for 3 seconds. CLER will be displayed momentarily. Note: If you hold the up or down arrow for a longer consecutive time, the temperature readings will scroll faster. Alarm On/Off After the alarm high and low values are set, the user can turn the alarm function on or off. When temperature values for input channel 1 reach above or below the preset high and low values, the alarm beep will sound. To turn the alarm function on, press the ALARM ON/OFF button and the word LIMIT will be displayed
directly above the T1 temperature display. To turn the alarm off, press the ALARM ON/OFF button and the word LIMIT will no longer be displayed. Note: It is recommended to disable the Auto-off feature if you intend to use the alarm feature, otherwise the unit will power off after 20 minutes. Setting the Display Unit The TW8060 will display temperatures in two scales, Fahrenheit and Celsius. To switch from one to the other, press the Units button momentarily and the unit on the LCD display will change. The factory default setting is °F. Backlight Function This unit has a backlight that can be activated for viewing the display in dark environments. The backlight will shut off after 30 seconds to preserve the battery life. To turn the backlight on, press the Backlight button momentarily. To turn the backlight off, press the Backlight button once again. Battery Replacement When the battery voltage drops below proper operating range, the symbol will appear on the LCD display and the batteries should be replaced. • Remove the battery cover by pressing gently toward the base of the meter to slide the cover down. • Replace the batteries with 3 AAA 1.5 volt batteries following the proper instructions inside the case. • Replace the battery cover.
Cleaning Instructions The TW8060 may be wiped down with a damp cloth using mild water based detergent or an antibacterial cleansing wipe. DO NOT submerge under water at any time. Proper Care of Probes Avoid twisting or wrapping the probe cable tightly as this can cause the wires to short inside the connector. Do not kink probe cables. Loosely wrapping the cable during use or in storage is preferred. Some probe cables should not be immersed in fluids. Do not scrub or wash any probe cable that has a high-temp fiber insulation. Avoid exposing cables to flames. Maintenance If you are storing this unit for long periods of time, it is recommended to remove the batteries and avoid storing at extreme temperatures or in high humidity environments. Warranty This instrument carries a one-year warranty against defects in either components or workmanship. During this period, products that prove to be defective will, at the discretion of ThermoWorks, be either repaired or replaced without charge. This warranty does not apply to probes where a six-month period is offered. The product warranty does not cover damage caused by fair wear and tear, abnormal storage conditions, incorrect use, accidental misuse, abuse, neglect, misapplication or modification. Full details of liability are available with ThermoWorks’ Terms & Conditons of Sale.
Probe Selection for Roasting, Slow Cooking & Grilling While there are hundreds of type K thermocouple probes to choose from, here are a few that are perfect for roasting, slow smoking and grilling. We’ve also included a few tips and best practices to help you extend the useful life of your thermocouple probes.
Smokehouse Penetration Probe, Model #113-177 Sensor Range: -58 to 482°F (-50 to 250°F). Cable Range: -103 to 482°F (-75 to 250°C)
With a stainless steel overbraid, this probe is perfect for grilling or smoking meats. The probe cable is small enough in diameter to close in an indoor oven, so it’s ideal for general purpose use. When cooking over direct heat, with temperatures in excess of 1" 482°F, consider using the Armored Smokehouse probe (113-178), which reads temperatures up to 660°F.
Insert the probe into the center of the thickest part of the meat being cooked. Temperature is measured from the very tip of the probe, so depending on the size of the meat, you may not have to insert the probe too deep. Gently close the cable in the lid or door of your oven, grill or smoker.

Armored Smokehouse Penetration Probe, Model #113-178 Sensor Range: -77 to 660°F (-75 to 350°C). Cable Range: -77 to 660°F (-75 to 350°C)
The Armored Smokehouse probe is, without a doubt, the toughest probe available for backyard grillers. The armored cable is not easily closed in a regular home oven door, so we suggest you choose a different probe for standard kitchen use. Although it can still break, the armored cable will survive longer than other probes when stepped on, manhandled, kinked, slammed in doors, or exposed to higher temperatures of outdoor grills.
Simply insert the probe into the center of the thickest part of the meat being cooked. Temperature is measured from the very tip of the probe, so depending on the size of the meat, you may not have to insert the probe too deep. Close the armored cable in the lid, or door of your grill or smoker.
High-Temp Flexible Ceramic Fiber Probe, Model #WD-08467-64 Sensor Range: -58 to 2200°F (-50 to 1204°C). Cable Range: -58 to 2200°F (-50 to 1204°C)
This probe is a good choice for monitoring fireboxes, kilns, grills and smokers. However, it’s not designed for direct food measurements.
For best results when measuring the ambient temperature inside of a grill or smoker, crumple a ball of aluminum foil tightly around the cable of the Ceramic Fiber probe in such a way that it protrudes 2" to 3" and is about 1" from the
1"
grill surface. For best results, place the probe tip within an inch of the meat. Avoid positioning the probe tip near the outer edges of the grill where temperatures may be lower. When done, the aluminum ball is easily removed from the probe without damaging the cable.
Crocodile Clip Oven Probe, Model #113-041 Sensor Range: -58 to 660°F (-50 to 350°C) Cable Range: -77 to 660°F (-75 to 350°C)
The 1" built-in clip on the Crocodile Oven probe allows you to attach the probe to an oven rack or grill grate exactly where you need it. Gently close the cable in the lid, or door of your oven, grill or smoker. The probe cable is small enough in diameter to close in an indoor oven, so it’s ideal for general purpose use. When cooking on a larger cooking surface, position the probe tip within one inch of the meat. For smaller surfaces, ensure that the probe tip is no less than one inch from the side wall of the grill or smoker.
