PROVOXr Process Management Systems BU4.4:CP7043 November 1995 Type CP7043 System Cabinet Assembly This bulletin describes the following products: Type CP7043 System Cabinet Assembly Type CP7901 Cable Tray Type CP7921 Cabinet Grounding Kit Type CP7043 System Cabinet Assembly The Type CP7043 System Cabinet Assembly is an environmentally-sealed equipment enclosure that houses the CL6340-Series termination panels and CL6350-Series intrinsic safety barriers. Cabinet dimensions allow the mounting of I/O termination panels in front and back. The cabinet may be joined side-to-side to form cabinet groups. Various wiring and cooling options may be selected to meet instrument requirements. A base assembly consists of the following: Cabinet frame with lifting eyes and leveling feet High temperature sensor Full-length front door with keylock Top and bottom panels A plinth-type cabinet base raises the cabinet assembly to allow bottom entry for power and signal wiring, if raised flooring is not used. The base has removable panels to allow use of a fork-lift or other lifting device for positioning of cabinets in the plant. D001866X042 A high-temperature sensor, mounted at the inside top of the cabinet, supplies heat monitoring capability in each system cabinet assembly. The sensor is used in conjunction with the Type CP6103 System Power Supply Unit, which provides the contacts to turn on an external alarm. For additional information on the Type CP6103 System Power Supply Unit, refer to product bulletin, BU4.4:CP6103. A rigid door frame provides integrity for the door. A continuous foamed-in gasket seals the cabinet when the door is closed. Doors are available with filtered lower cutouts used with top mounted fans, or with upper and lower filtered cutouts used with door mounted fans. Removable metal plates in the top panel provide access for wiring. Top panels are available with cutouts for two fans. Solid top panels are used with door-mounted and fans and filters to qualify for NEMA 12 applications. Bottom panels provide adjustable three-part cable entry plates for entry access. Side and back panels are available to fully enclose cabinets. All panels use foamed-in gaskets to seal panel and frame junctions. An optional rear door is available for access to rear-mounted I/O termination panels. Vertical and horizontal wiring ways for hazardous-area field wiring are blue. Vertical ways for safe-area wiring are white. When cabinets are bolted together in multi-bay combinations, side panels are not used between joined cabinets. Shipping considerations limit factory-assembled combinations to three bays. Cabinet dimensions and details are shown in the following illustration. Ventilation The combination of doors with filtered cutouts and top or door mounted fans provide required cooling. Field Wiring The field wiring from hazardous areas must be segregated from the wiring to non-hazardous areas. Hazardous area wiring is routed through the blue vertical cabinet cable tray and through the blue horizontal cable tray on CL6340-Series termination panels. The wiring terminates at the intrinsic safety barrier as shown in the illustration below. Warning Blue cable trays in CP7043 cabinets are used for hazardous area only. Never mix hazardous area and safe area wiring in the same cable trays. Blue Cable Tray on Termination Panel INCH (mm) Wiring and Cable Trays for the CL6350-Series Intrinsic Safety Barriers Hazardous area field wiring is never brought out of an open end of the blue horizontal cable tray on CL6340-Series termination panels. The wiring is always routed through the slots in the side of the cable tray as illustrated below. The blanking partition outside the blue horizontal cable tray is designed to ensure that wires do not protrude from the bottom of the ducting slots, and are at least 2 inches (50.8 mm) from the components on the termination panel base. Note When an earth bar is installed on the termination panel, the intrinsic safety field wiring must be routed over the top of the bar and not allowed to droop or have any slack wiring. Power and signal wiring enters the cabinet through a cutout in the top panel or a three-part plate in the bottom panel. Laminated power bus bars are used to distribute 24 Vdc power and ground from dc power supplies to the termination panels. Bus bars mount vertically inside the cabinet and have screw terminals spaced throughout their length. Vertical cable trays are available for routing power and signal wiring between cabinet devices. Each cabinet with EIA rails includes a white horizontal cable tray that is mounted at the top. All other horizontal trays are included with rack-mounted instruments. This local ground bus (LGB) is then connected to a single master ground bus (MGB) and then to a single dedicated earth ground for the instrumentation system. LGB assemblies and MGB assemblies are available separately. Each local ground bus (LGB) assembly provides a central termination point for all power supply and signal common circuits within a cabinet group of eight bays or less. An assembly contains eight screw terminals each for power supply and signal common connections. It also includes two center tongue terminal lugs; one for battery backup return line and one for a master ground bus (MGB) assembly connection. Each MGB assembly provides a common termination point for up to six LGB assemblies. An MGB assembly contains seven center tongue terminal lugs. One lug is used for the earth ground connection and the other six are used for connection to LGB assemblies. With one MGB connected to six LGB assemblies, each of which is connected to eight cabinets, the power supply circuits of up to 48 cabinets can be connected directly to earth ground. If more than 48 cabinets are used, additional grounding kits must be specified. When no more than eight cabinets are used, the LGB assembly lug that is normally connected to an MGB assembly is connected directly to a single dedicated system earth ground.
