Once a player has been tagged, he/she is now on the taggers team and they will work together to pass the ball between their team until they have tagged everyone; putting everyone on the “taggers team”.10 minutes with 1 minute of rest if the game has to be restarted. WU07 - EYSA Technical Warm-up Technical warm up is an attempt to get as many touches on the soccer ball as possible in the first 25 minutes of the practice. Toe-taps, foundations, 1v1 core moves, inside cuts, outside cuts and stop and go movements should be encouraged in a free dribbling circuit inside a 20x20 grid. 4 minutes can be devoted to working on juggling and the rest should be on ball comfort. The coach will assign different movements that the players much learn how to do. Slow and steady to make sure they REALLY get it. MP05 – Countries Game Set up 4 squares of cones, each 4x4 in the corners of a 20x 20 grid. Coaches will name each square by country and call out the name of the country (square) he/she wants the team to dribble to. Coaches can ask that the team dribble, toe-touch, foundation from country to country. The player who arrives last to the country gets a penalty point and we are looking for who can end the game without any penalties. 10 minute game with 4 minutes of play and 1 minute of rest x 2. MAIN PART MP01 – Windmill Passing Game In groups of 4, divide them in pairs. 1 pair passing the ball back and forward. The other pair tries hitting that ball with their own ball as they make passes to each other (cross cross) 1 point for every completed pass in bounds. When the other team tags a ball, pairs switch roles. 2x4minutes with 1 minute rest between rounds. Size: 15x15 yards. MP07 – Keeping the Ball COOL-DOWN Set up a grid with cones that is 15 x 15 for 6-7 players, 20x20 for 8-9 players, 25x25 for 10-11 players and 30x30 for 12-14 players. Create 2 equal teams (2, 3, 4) and allow for 1,2 or 3 “neutral players” (who are known as all-time offense). Ask that each team try to keep the ball away from the other team inside the grid (with passes and dribbling) for as long as they can. Points are awarded with a string of 4-6 passes in a row. Change neutral players every 8 minutes. 22-25 minutes with 8 minute rounds and 1 minute rest between rounds. CD03 – Ground, Water, Air All the players making a circle facing the coach in the middle, the coach will pass the ball to a player while saying the words 'Ground', 'Water', or 'Air'. The player receiving the ball, in less than 5 seconds, will have to name an animal that lives in the ground, under water, or flies, before returning the ball to the coach and restarting the game again. NOTES 5 DIAGRAM AGE DATE SESION U8-U9 DESCRIPTION WU05 – King of the Pitch SIZE TIME 30x30 10 min 30x30 25 min 5x5 10 min 5x15 10 min 15x10 – 30x25 25 min 15x15 5 min WARM-UP Put ¾ of the team inside the grid with balls. These dribblers will dribble inside the grid keeping the ball from the ¼ of the team who does NOT have balls. The players who do not have balls are trying to steal the balls of the players with balls and then keep their ball. Point if the you end the round with a ball. 10 minutes with 30 second rest if the game has to be restarted. Each round goes for 60 seconds. Person who has 4 points, is the king of the pitch. MP11 – Simple Rondo Players will make a circle 2-3 yards away from each other passing and receiving the ball going Clock-wise and Counter Clock-wise working on receiving the ball with the far foot. Cones can be used to define where players should start and where they would move if needed. 2 rounds of 4 minutes. MAIN PART MP12 – Away from Pressure Split players into 2 teams and put each team behind their line of cones that face each other 10 yards apart. Players can be given numbers by the coach, or just put the players in lines and the first one in line from each team comes out. The coach will roll the ball in between each team and the players will fight for the ball and attempt to dribble over EITHER endline of cones. 1 point for dribbling past the nearest line of cones, 2 points for going one direction and turning to go the other direction. 5×10 yards, 15 minutes, with rounds of 4 minutes and 1 minute to rest in between rounds MP10 – Progressing to Small Goals COOL-DOWN Possession game with directions to 2 goals. Set up a rectangle with small pugg goals, or cones in each of the 4 corners of the rectangle (facing each other). Teams are trying to dribble through the goals after they have passed the ball 6 times (adjust for success- 3 passes). 2 teams will be made equal and will use neutral (all-time offense) players to help the success of the game (1, 2, 3 or 4 neutrals can be used depending how many players are on the field). Grid size depends on the amount of players and the age of the players. Create a size that has success, adjust field size if you want to challenge players (make it smaller). Change neutral players every 8 minutes. 22-25 minutes with 8 minute rounds and 1 minute rest between rounds. CD01 – The Crazy Bullet With all the players making a line 10 yards away from the coach, they will individually start running fast straight to the coach at his/her signal as if they were bullets. As they approach the coach, he/she will make a signal moving one part of his body to tell the player to go either left or right. The signal should not be verbal, and could be done winking one eye, moving one hand, one foot, a finger, with the tongue, etc. NOTES 6 DIAGRAM WU02 – The Disease (All Ages) Description: Players will have to run away from one player having the 'disease'. He/she will be running around with a ball in his/her hands trying to tag other players with the ball without throwing it. When someone is tagged, the disease is passed and the game is resumed with a new player trying to tag all the others. The game will be played inside a box of a reasonable size so that the player with the disease tags another player in no more than 30-40 seconds. Size & Time: 20×20 yards, 10 minutes with 1 minute of rest if the game has to be restarted. Training equipment: • 4 cones to define the playing zone • 1 ball Focus on: • Every player in movement • Every player participating in actions • Decisions of players being chased • Right tactical decision of chasing player 3 WU05 – King of the Pitch (U8-U11) Description: The game starts with with 3/4 of the players dribbling balls inside a rectangle and the other 1/4 trying to steal a ball from them. If a defender steals a ball, he/she will try to keep it in possession until the end of the round. We will play in rounds of 60 seconds, and players ending up with ball get a point. Whoever accumulates 4 points is the King! Size & Time: 30×30 yards, 10 minutes with 30 second rest if the game has to be restarted. Training equipment: • 4-8 cones to define the playing zone • 1 ball per player Focus on: • Dribbling coordination of players • Constantly touching the ball while dribbling instead of kicking the ball and following it • Body use to protect ball from being stolen • Tactical decisions of players regarding where to go to avoid defenders 4 WU07 – EYSA Technical Warm-Up (All Ages) Description: Set of individual technique drills with the objective of getting players to do 1,000 touches in 25 minutes. Size & Time: 30×30 yards, 25 minutes Training equipment: • 4-8 cones to define the playing zones • 1 ball per player Drills: 1. 1v1 Core (10 min) Have players dribble continuously 8-10 minutes. Teach players how to perform 1v1 Core moves to unbalance and beat defenders. Coaches should first demonstrate, then have players perform slowly to perfect the technique. When teams have mastered moves, move on to next moves and do periodic review repetitions. 1v1 Core moves to introduce: • Pull Back • Step Over • Scissors • Cruyff • V-Turns • Stop-n-Go • etc. 5 2. Ball Comfort (10 min) Ball mastery touches, trained stationary and with movement, to allow players to be comfortable with ball and parts of foot. For example: • Change of Direction • Chop/Inside Foot • Cuts/Outside Foot • Toe Taps • Foundations • Change of Pace • etc. Example: https://vimeo.com/80325038 3. Juggling: (5 min) Teach players proper juggling technique which helps players with timing, touch and control. Start with: 1. Bounce juggle (drop, ground, juggle, catch, repeat) 2. Progress to (drop, ground, juggle, ground, juggle, repeat) 3. Progress to (juggle, catch, juggle, catch, repeat) 4. Juggle without ground and hands Tip: lock ankle, toe slightly angled upward, let ball come to closer to ground (juggle touch the ball closer to ground), etc. 6 MP05 – Countries Game (U8-U11) Description: Each player dribbles with a ball on a pitch with four small squares on each corner bearing the name of a country. The coach will say the name of a player or a club out loud, and the players will have to dribble to the matching country as quickly as possible to stand still with the foot on the ball inside the corresponding box. The last player to arrive receives a penalty point. Whoever has the least penalty points wins. Always adjust pitch size to size and number of players to maintain good space to dribble in and maximize touches. Size & Time: 20×20 yards, 10 minutes with 1 minute of rest every 4 minutes Training equipment: • 16 cones to define the country zone • 1 ball per player Focus on: • Change of direction and pace • Using 1v1 core moves to change direction • Keep the ball close to feet, try to touch the ball as much as possible • Make them think about how to most effectively change direction using parts of foot or 1v1 core moves • Remember: the more contact the players have with the ball, the more control they have over it 7 MP01 – Windmill Passing Game (U8-U9) Description: Two pairs stand opposite each other in the shape of a windmill's sail arms. One pair kicks the ball back and forth and the other pair tries to hit that ball, by passing their own ball to each other. Change roles after 1 ball contact. Teams will get a point for every completed pass that stays within the cone boundary. When players tag a ball, they switch to the scoring team. If the ball doesn't stay on the floor, teams also switch. Variation: • Expand the shape with another pair passing the ball • The same, but with 1 pair passing the ball and the other 2 pairs trying to hit the ball Size & Time: 15×15 yards, 10 minutes with 1 minute of rest every 4 minutes Training equipment: • 4-8 cones to define the passing zones • 2 ball • Optional: color pinnies to differentiate the teams Focus on: • Kicking with the inside foot (technique) • Kicking leg perpendicular to the direction of play • Sole of the foot parallel to the ground • Passing at the right moment 8 MP11 – Simple Rondo (U8-U9) Description: The players will be placed in a circle, with a separation of 2-3 yards in between teammates. The game will consist on players passing the ball around the circle clockwise while making 2 touches (receive & pass) mandatorily. We will focus on making sure that players receive using the back foot, and pass the ball using an appropriate inside foot technique. The game will have 2 rounds of 4 minutes, raising the pass pace steadily and reversing the direction of the passes on every round. Size & Time: 5×5 yards, 10 minutes, with rounds of 4 minutes and 1 minute to rest in between rounds Training equipment: • 4 cones to define where players will stand Focus on: • Receiving with back foot. • Kicking with the inside foot (technique) • Kicking leg perpendicular to the direction of play • Sole of the foot parallel to the ground 9 MP12 – Away from Pressure (U8-U11) Description: With the team divided in two groups, we will place them in two separate lines outside a 5×10 yard box as shown in the image. The game will consist on the coach feeding one ball to the box and the first players on each line fighting for it. Whoever wins it, will have to dribble it to either far end side of the field while the other player will fight to win the ball back. Every time a player has success at dribbling and passing the far end side line, his/her team will get a point. If the defender player wins the ball, no point is earned by anyone. The team with more points when ending the round wins. The game will have 3 rounds of 4 minutes, with one minute of rest after rounds. Variations: • If a player changes direction and goes to other goal after originally heading one direction, that is worth 2 points. Size & Time: 5×10 yards, 15 minutes, with rounds of 4 minutes and 1 minute to rest in between rounds Training equipment: • 4 cones to set end lines Focus on: • Changing direction and pace while doing the 1v1. • The body coordination and positioning. • Look for usage of 1v1 Core technique like Pull Back, Cruyff, Chops, Cuts, etc. to change direction. 10 MP07 – Keeping the Ball (All Ages) Description: Possession game between two opponent teams with the help of a neutral team. The objective will be to keep the ball away from the defenders, using the help of the neutral team, who will always play with the team having the ball. The difficulty of the exercise increases as the ratio of neutral players in comparison with the main teams' members is lowered. The coach will have to decide the right number of neutral players required to be able to have continuity in the passes while not making it impossible for defenders to recover the ball. For teams that are starting to learn the sport, it will be better to have a higher ratio of neutral players. As players get better, we will be lowering the ratio, but always having neutrals in the pitch to give superiority to the team in possession of the ball. Based on the number of players that we have, we could use the following player distribution: • • For players without experience: ◦ 6 -7players: 2v2 + 2/3 neutrals ◦ 8-9 players: 3v3 + 2/3 neutrals ◦ 10 players: 3v3 + 4 neutrals ◦ 11-12 players: 4v4 + 3/4 neutrals ◦ 13 players: 4v4 + 5 neutrals ◦ 14 players: 5v5 + 4 neutrals For players with experience: ◦ 6 players: 2v2 + 2 neutrals ◦ 7-8 players: 3v3 + 1/2 neutrals ◦ 9-10 players: 4v4 + 1/2 neutrals ◦ 11-12 players: 5v5 + 1/2 neutrals ◦ 13-14 players: 6v6 + 1/2 neutrals 11 Also, in order to maximize passes, players must have a limit of 2-5 touches before passing the ball. If they do more touches, the ball is given to the defending team. Change the neutral players every 8 minutes during the pause. The team achieving the maximum number of consecutive passes wins. Size & Time: Size will vary depending on the number of players and the difficulty we want to achieve. The smaller the size the harder it will be for players to keep the possession. Use the following size recommendations, and adapt them based on what you see while they play: • 6-7 players: 15×15 yards • 8-9 players: 20×20 yards • 10-11 players: 25×25 yards • 12-14 players: 30×30 yards Play for 22-25 minutes with 1 minute of rest every 8 minutes Training equipment: • 4 cones to define the playing zone • 1 ball • Optional: color pinnies to differentiate the teams Focus on: • Offensive players going wide trying to occupy the whole pitch the best way • Offensive players moving to empty spaces to help partner with ball • Defensive players closing passing options • Overall team communication and coordination • Passing and receiving technique 12 MP10 – Progressing to Small Goals (All Ages) Description: Possession game between two opponent teams with the help of neutral players in which the attacking team will try to score by dribbling through any of the opponent's two small goals after making at least 6 passes. The game will be played in a wide rectangular pitch, with each team defending 2 small goals located on each wide side. Based on the number of players that we have, we could use the following player distribution: • • For players without experience: ◦ 6 players: 2v2 + 2 neutrals ◦ 7 players: 2v2 + 3 neutrals ◦ 8 players: 3v3 + 2 neutrals ◦ 9 players: 3v3 + 3 neutrals ◦ 10 players: 3v3 + 4 neutrals ◦ 11 players: 4v4 + 3 neutrals ◦ 12 players: 4v4 + 4 neutrals ◦ 13 players: 4v4 + 5 neutrals ◦ 14 players: 5v5 + 4 neutrals For players with experience: ◦ 6 players: 2v2 + 2 neutrals ◦ 7 players: 3v3 + 1 neutrals ◦ 8 players: 3v3 + 2 neutrals ◦ 9 players: 4v4 + 1 neutrals ◦ 10 players: 4v4 + 2 neutrals ◦ 11 players: 5v5 + 1 neutrals ◦ 12 players: 5v5 + 2 neutrals 13 ◦ 13 players: 6v6 + 1 neutrals ◦ 14 players: 6v6 + 2 neutrals The game does not require a limit in the maximum touches per player, but we should encourage passing over dribbling. During the game, we will promote ground level and short passes, which will incredibly help the development of the players. When a team scores a point keeps the ball by restarting the game in their defensive zone. Change the neutral players every 8 minutes during the pause. Variations: • Adapt the number passes required to score, but make sure they make at least four. Size & Time: Will be played in a wide rectangle, of a size dependent on the number of players and the difficulty we want to achieve. The smaller the size the harder it will be for players to play. Use the following size recommendations, and adapt them based on what you see while they play: • 6-7 players: 15×10 yards • 8-9 players: 20×15 yards • 10-11 players: 25×20 yards • 12-14 players: 30×25 yards Play for 22-25 minutes with 1 minute of rest every 8 minutes Training equipment: • 12 cones to define the playing zone and the goals • 1 ball • Optional: color pinnies to differentiate the teams Focus on: • Rational use of the space by offensive players • Defensive players closing passing options • Players continuously moving to empty spaces for support • Passing and receiving technique 14 CD03 – Ground, Water, Air (U8-U11) Description: With all the players making a circle facing the coach in the middle, the coach will pass the ball to a player while saying the words 'Ground', 'Water', or 'Air'. The player receiving the ball, in less than 5 seconds, will have to name an animal that lives in the ground, under water, or flies, before returning the ball to the coach and restarting the game again. If a player names a wrong animal or takes too much time, he/she will have to run one lap around the circle. Size: 15×15 yards, 5 minutes Training equipment: • 1 ball Focus on: • High level of concentration • Maximum response time 15 CD01 – The Crazy Bullet (All Ages) Description: With all the players making a line 10 yards away from the coach, they will individually start running fast straight to the coach at his/her signal as if they were bullets. As they approach the coach, he/she will make a signal moving one part of his body to tell the player to go either left or right. The signal should not be verbal, and could be done winking one eye, moving one hand, one foot, a finger, with the tongue, etc. Variations: • Have the players go the opposite direction to what is marked Size & Time: 5×15 yards, 5 minutes Training equipment: • 2 cones to define where players start running Focus on: • High level of concentration • Good preparation for start • Maximum speed of execution 16
