University of the Incarnate Word 4301 Broadway, San Antonio, TX 78209 School of Media & Design ANGD 1301 | Introduction to Animation & Game Design Syllabus Catalog Description This studio/lecture course is a basic overview of technologies central to animation and game design. Hands-on training with game input methodologies, basic 3D modeling, word processing, spreadsheet manipulation, and computer hardware are core. Topics include animation and game design concepts, terminology, processes, and procedures. Pre-Requisites None Repeatable for Credit No. Context This is a Freshman level course required for all BFA ANGD majors. Content This course focuses on animation terms and concepts. It explores the difference between PC/Platform/Mobile gaming. There is a heavy analysis of the differences between high-resolution and game animation technologies. This course will provide an introduction to graphics softwares including image manipulation and video editing tools. The pipeline of 3D production for all forms of animation will be extensively covered. Course Supplies External hard drive. Headphones. Course Outcomes Upon successfully completing this course the student will be able to: Understand basics of word processing and spreadsheet manipulation. Show the basics of image manipulation softwares. Utilize video editing softwares to edit stills and video clips. Understand digital audio and how to capture and edit audio clips. Understand pipeline of 3D production. Explain differences in game input methodologies. Illustrate core concepts of variants in art creation techniques for different delivery platforms. Assessment In class assignments. Research presentations. Image manipulation, sound editing, and video editing projects. Your grade will be based upon the percentage of 100 pts you have earned. 100-90=A, 89-80=B, 79-70=C, 69 and below =F. Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. After one absence, each additional absence will result in a letter drop in your final grade.
