Warning: Do not use this appliance with a damaged table or plug* If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by an approved service representative or a similar qualified person in order to avoid INSTRUCTION MANUAL Before deciding on a locution for your HEPA TOWER plus, carefully read all the operating instructions as well as the following information. SAFETY The HERA TOWER plus is safe. It is approved by many safety institutions around the world. However; like any other electrical appliance, use it with care. Do not clean the unit by spraying it or immersing it in water. Do not insert any object into the openings of the unit. Disconnect the product from the electrical outlet before cleaning the unit or any of its components. Do not connect the HERA TOWER plus to an electrical outlet using an extension lead. If an outlet is not available, one should be installed by a qualified electrician. A slight sensation may be felt if the carbon filament ionizing element (the carbon cord on the upper round outlet grill) is touched. This is normal and presents no danger. This sensation may also be felt if you touch a person or a large metal object while your other hand is on the unit. Do not operate this unit if an oxygen tent or similar concentrated oxygen generating device is present in the room, or in a work area with bottled gas. However, the unit is safe to operate near a well-maintained gas stove. When not in use store out of the reach of children! WARNING: Any service other than regular cleaning or filter replacement should be performed by an authorized service representative. Failure to do so could result in the loss of warranty. Never operate the appliance when it has a damaged cable or plug. Do not |am the cable or lead it over sharp edges. Damaged cords or plugs can be life-threatening. They must be replaced only by the manufacturer or its service agent or similarly qualified person in order to avoid a hazard. INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE OF THE HEPA TOWER plus The HERA TOWER plus may be operated all day or night. The air Mow can be regulated either by the power switch or by moving the HERA TOWER plus towards or away from the user. PLACEMENT Caution: Never place this unit in close proximity to electronic devices that contain electronic circuits, or which can be damaged by electrical fields. Examples are: video tapes, audio tapes, floppy disks, computers, wrist watches, touch lamps, radios, stereos, telephones, VCRs, etc. Never place this unit on metal shelving or on any electrical device. The principle upon which the ionizer works is ionization. The process of ionization accelerates the fallout of pollutants from the air. These pollutants may adhere to surrounding surfaces, causing a dark smudge. Therefore, placement of the unit away from all non-washable surfaces is a must! The HERA TOWER plus may be placed on a nightstand, table or desk with its air outlet facing the user. In order to allow for proper air flow and to reduce particle build-up, always keep your unit at least 45 cm (1.5 ft) from any wall. The air outlet should always face away from the wall. CONTROLS AND INDICATOR LIGHTS (Fig. 1) FAN CONTROL The fan control is a three-position switch marked "POWER". The switch controls the power to the unit and allows the user to select either high or low fan speeds. When the unit is on, the power indicator will be lit. IONIZER CONTROL The ion control switch is marked "IONIZER". When the ionizer switch is turned on, the ionizer indicator is lit and the unit releases negative ions into the air stream. The ionizer does not operate unless the HERA TOWER plus air purifier is switched on (either position "HI" or "LOW"). You may use the ionizer continuously, day and night ScentClip (Fig. 2-3) You may add a pleasant aroma to the HEPA Tower plus environment by mounting a scent clip onto one of the ribs at the front of the unit. Make sure you mount the scent clip in the centre of the lower fan opening (see picture). A package of six scent clips with three different scents: fresh outdoor) potpourri and cedar is in the box. When you take out a scent clip from the package be careful that the remaining scent clips stay sealed. Over time, the scent that the scent clips emit fades away. You will find many other uses for these convenient scent clips: home and car air conditioner vents, fans, etc. fig. 2 fig. 3 HOW THE HEPA TOWER plus WORKS The HEPA TOWER plus cleans and refreshes the air: a 3-step air treatment sequence scrubs your room air of pollutants and then refreshes it by ionization, nature's own air refresher* You may add a pleasant aroma to the HEPA Tower plus environment by mounting a scent clip onto one of the outlet ribs at the front of the unit. See page 5 for details. Pre-filtering, stage 1 Pollutant-laden air entering the HERA TOWER plus is first pulled through a washable high dust holding capacity foam pre-filter which traps larger particles. To maintain like new performance, you can wash the filter in a mild detergent solution. True HEPA filtering, stage 2 The pre-filtered air is then drawn through the HERA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filter. The sophisticated true HERA filter is a microfiber glass air filtration material, with a remarkable ability to trap microscopic particles while allowing pure air to pass through. The filter material itself is made much the same way as paper, except that glass fibers are used instead of wood fibers. This flat filter material is then pleated to give it an extended surface area, increasing its air handling capacity. The HERA TOWER plus filter has an exceptionally large filtering surface area: the unpleated area of this filter is 1.8 sq. meter (20 sq. ft)! The filter is maintenance-free, long lasting and does not lose its 99,97% efficiency over its lifetime. HEPA filter efficiency: Particle size Efficiency 1.0 micron 100% * 0.3 micron 99.97% 0.01 micron 100%* * Filtration efficiency for particles larger and smaller than 0.3 microns is virtually 100%. Ionization, stage 3 The ionizer restores the natural balance of the air. After the air is purified, it is further freshened and ionized at the air outlet, using AMCOR's exclusive carbon filament process. Ionization substantially reduces the amount of indoor bacteria in the air. Ionization can frequently help asthma and allergy sufferers. Ionization may help relieve weather-related maladies such as headaches, nausea and physical aches. Ionization may help lower tension, producing sounder sleep. A slight sensation may be felt if the carbon filament ionizing element (the carbon cord on the unit air outlet) is touched. This slight sensation is normal and presents no danger. ROUTINE SERVICE AND CLEANING (Fig. 4-9) Caution: To reduce the risk of injury unplug the unit from the electrical outlet before cleaning or filter servicing! Regular maintenance of the unit will keep it operating at maximum effectiveness. Enclosure cleaning Clean the outside of the unit at least once a week with a damp paper towel moistened with a common household detergent. Use a soft brush to clean (lengthwise) the carbon filament on the front of the outlet grill. Be careful not to damage the carbon filament during the cleaning process. Cleaning the area around the unit It is recommended that the area around the air purifier be wiped once a week with a wet paper towel to remove any accumulation of dust. Fig. 4 Fig. 5 Fig.6 Fig. 7 Fig. 8 Fig. 9 Cleaning the washable pre-filter It is recommended that the pre-filter is cleaned every 8 weeks. To clean the pre-filter, follow these steps: 1. Face the air intake grill. 2. Press on the centre and release the filter cover (fig. 4). 3. Detach pre-filter sheet from the retaining strips on all corners (fig. 5). 4. Shake dust out of pre-filter sheet. You can wash the pre-filter sheet in mild detergent, rinse, and air-dry thoroughly. (Do not place in automatic dryer). 5. Re-attach the pre-filter sheet to retaining corner (fig. 5). 6. Replace filter cove^ bottom edge first, and snap in place (fig. 6). 7. The pre-filter sheet must be replaced when damaged. REPLACING THE HEPA FILTER UNIT It is recommended to replace the HERA filter unit once a year or earlier depending on the accumulated dirt, see "Filter condition indicator" (fig. 8). When it is time to change the filter, follow the steps below: 1. Purchase a new HERA filter unit from your retailer. (The replacement filter assembly contains both a new washable pre-filter and HEPA filter). 2. Face the air intake grill. 3. Press on the centre and release the filter cover (fig. 4). 4. Lift filter cover off and set aside. 5. Remove the entire HERA filter unit (fig. 7). Dispose of entire old HERA filter unit including pre-filter. 6. Install new HERA filter unit by inserting bottom edge first and align in place. 7. Replace filter cover; bottom edge first, and snap into place (fig. 6). AIR IONIZATION IS THE ANSWER Indoor air, which most of us breathe for more often than outdoor air is of primary importance to our health. The HEPA TOWER plus substantially improves indoor air quality in homes and offices - the air around you. The air purifier removes indoor pollutants and will improve poor environmental conditions. The HEPA TOWER plus is equipped with a blower and an electrostatic air filter plus AMCOR's exclusive negative air ionizer. The HEPA TOWER plus cleans the air of such pollutants as: cigarette, cigar smoke, dust, pollen, airborne fungal and bacterial particles, indoor allergy stimuli. How does ionization clean the air In your home or workplace? Air cleaning by ionization is achieved because large molecule clusters -pollutants- that are usually positively charged are neutralized by negative ions emitted from the air purifier. Once neutralized, these molecules cannot stay airborne and fall from the air. Ionizers are particularly effective in dealing with the smallest, most hazardous air impurities - those found in cigarette smoke, pollen, soot and aerosols, technically, particles smaller than 0.1 micron. (A strand of human hair is 30 to 200 microns in diameter.) What the HEPA TOWER plus can do for you The air purifier will improve your indoor air quality.
