USB 3.0 SuperSpeed™ Enhanced Data Transfer, High Quality Video and Power USB 3.0 Benefits • Ten times faster data transfer Ten times faster than USB 2.0, USB 3.0 achieves its super-speedy data throughput (max. 4.8 GB) through technical improvements to the bus architecture. The addition of two wires enables bi-directional data transfer and the ability to read and write data simultaneously. A new interrupt-based data signaling method replaces device polling for a further boost in speed.
• Greater power efficiency New interrupt-based data signaling eliminates the power drain associated with USB 2.0, for notably enhanced power efficiency and a preservation of battery life for laptops, tablets and virtually any peripheral connected via USB 3.0. Legacy 2.0 devices also benefit from this feature, which is backward compatible with USB 2.0 devices.
• Increased power output / greater charging capabilities USB 3.0 substantially boosts power output over USB 2.0, enabling users to power and charge more devices, more quickly from a single USB port with no external power source needed. This increase in current also enables USB hubs to support more peripherals and facilitates faster battery charging for most battery powered devices.
• Backward compatibility USB 3.0 is backward compatible with earlier versions, and USB 3.0 ports and plugs are functionally compatible with older hardware, although data will transfer at the rate of the older specification. For full SuperSpeed bandwidth, a USB 3.0 device must be connected to a USB 3.0 host port using a USB 3.0 cable.
