USB Over CAT5/5e Extender UCX-1100 Quick Reference Guide 009-0309-01 The Savant USB Over CAT5/5e Extender (UCX-1100) Quick Reference Guide provides the steps necessary to install the UCX-1100 solution set (Local and Remote units). Features • The Local unit converts standard USB 1.1 signal format for transmission over a CAT5/CAT5e cable to the Remote unit. The Remote unit receives the signals and converts the signals back to USB 1.1 signal format. • USB Over CAT5/5e is capable of delivering USB 1.1 at extended distances of up to 330 feet (100 meters). Unpack the Components To unpack and mount the Local and Remote, refer to the diagram below for connection information and do the following: 1. Open the box and remove the packing. Local Unit - Front 2. Remove the supplied items from the box (see Box Contents below). Place the components in locations that provide adequate access to the connectors in order to route the power cables and other required signal and control cables. Note: All components requiring 120 VAC, 50/60 Hz source power must obtain it from a surge-protected circuit. 2. Interconnect the components as described in Interconnecting the Units below and shown in the interconnection diagram. Connectors interface the Remote unit to the USB peripherals. • USB 1 • USB 2 • Green indicates a valid link exists between the Local unit and Remote unit over the USB/CAT5 cable. Green indicates that a USB peripheral is connected to the USB 1 port and is active. Green indicates that a USB peripheral is connected to the USB 2 port and is active. Local Unit - Connectors and Indicators Connectors USB/CAT5 Connector provides 24 VDC power and control signals to the Remote unit. Connector provides USB signals to the Host via the USB cable. Provides power to Local and Remote units. Host USB 24V DC Indicators Link • Local Pwr • • Remote Pwr • • Host USB • • Host Power • • Green indicates a valid link exists between the Local and Remote units over the USB/CAT5 connector cable. Green indicates the 24V power supply is connected to the Local unit and the unit is powered up. Off indicates the Local unit is not receiving 24 VDC power. Green indicates the Remote unit is receiving 24 VDC power from the Local unit via the CAT5 cable. Off indicates the Remote unit is not receiving 24 VDC power. Green indicates that a valid USB host is connected to the Local unit. Off indicates that a valid USB host is not connected to the Local unit. Green indicates Local power is being received. Interconnect the USB/CAT5 connectors on Local and Remote units. These connections route the USB signals between the Local and Remote units. The Local and Remote units may be up to 330 feet apart. The USB/CAT5 connector on the Local unit also routes 24V DC power to the USB/CAT5 connector on the Remote unit. 2. Connect the Local unit to the USB Host device using an USB cable. 3. Connect the Remote unit to USB peripheral device using an USB cable. 4. Connect the AC power adapter to the 24V DC input connector on the Local unit. 5. Plug the AC power adapter a surge-protected power strip. 6. Apply power to all connected units.
