Connect to a PC using an ethernet cable 1 Simply plug your ethernet cable into your PC, then connect to your router. 10 0820801 D100 UG.AW2.indd 10 19/9/08 09:56:10 Settings. Why you may want to peek into your router settings. The router contains many settings that can be used to change the security level of the wireless connection or even turn off the wireless feature altogether. By turning off the wireless connection it is still possible to connect to the web via the ethernet connection. It is also possible for you to change the login password, to prevent others changing your settings. If you do change the login password, be sure to make a note of it, or you won’t be able to get in again. Other settings that can be adjusted include firewall settings. The firewall protects your computer(s) from incoming connections, so take care when adjusting these as opening up ports can make your computer vulnerable to attack. Login to the Router Management Interface 1 Start the internet browser and enter the address http://192.168.1.1 in the address bar. 2 Select a user type, enter the password and click Login. Admin: The user type is authorised to view and change the configuration. The default password is admin. User: This user type is authorised to view only the basic status information. The default password is user. 3 To change the Router Management Interface password, on the left menu click Advanced Settings > System > Modify Password. Enter your new password and click Modify. 11 0820801 D100 UG.AW2.indd 11 19/9/08 09:56:12 Login to the Router Management Interface 4 To change the SSID (name of the wireless network), on the left menu click Advanced Settings > WLAN Settings > WLAN Basic Settings. In Name (SSID), enter a new SSID (Name of the wireless network) and click Apply. At this point you will be automatically disconnected from the router. You will then need to re-connect your computer to the wireless network using the new SSID as shown on Page 8 (PC) or Page 9 (Mac). 5 To change the network key, on the left menu click Advanced settings > WLAN Advanced Settings. Select your encryption mode and click Apply. You will then need to re-connect your computer to the wireless network using the new encryption settings as shown on Page 8 (PC) or Page 9 (Mac). NOTE To avoid a configurations conflict, only one user is allowed access to the management page at any one time. 12 0820801 D100 UG.AW2.indd 12 19/9/08 09:56:15 Frequently asked questions. Why is the WLAN (Wireless) speed of my router slower than expected? Check for devices / objects that may be blocking the signal such as other wireless devices (telephones for example), any electrical cabling or large structures in the home like brick walls etc. Try moving the router to combat these issues. How do I change the SSID (network name) of my wireless network? The SSID is the name of the wireless network being broadcast from the router. If you wish to change this please log into the router, then select Advanced Settings > WLAN Settings, > WLAN Basic Settings. Here you will see Name (SSID). Replace this entry with the name that you wish to apply to the router and click Apply. I cannot read any SMS messages sent to my modem. The D100 does not support the text messaging features of the 3 USB modems. To utilise the SMS functions of your USB modem, please connect it directly to your computer. How do I login to Router Management Interface? Open your web browser and in the address bar enter http://192.168.1.1 Enter your password to login to the router, there are two account logins to choose from: Admin: This user type is authorised to view and change the configurations. The default password is admin. User: This user type is authorised to view only the basic status information. The default password is user. How many PCs can I connect to my broadband router? You can connect one PC via an ethernet cable and multiple users can connect to the D100 router using WLAN. 13 0820801 D100 UG.AW2.indd 13 19/9/08 09:56:17 How do I change the Encryption mode of my wireless router? The 3 D100 Router supports many configurations for wi-fi security. We do not recommend that you change your router’s security settings. If you want to make changes, log in to the Router Management Interface, go to Advanced Settings > WLAN Settings > WLAN Advanced Settings. Here you will also see a brief guide to the types of security configurations available for the router and other options for changing the settings. How do I restore the router back to its factory settings? On the side of the router, there is a reset button. Hold down the reset button for five seconds and the router will be set to the factory settings. Please note, this will change all settings including any modified wi-fi settings back to the factory presets. How do I change my 3 D100 router default login password? Login to the Router Management Interface, go to Advanced Settings > System Modify Password. Your password can be between 1 and 15 characters. Why do I keep getting a ‘Limited or No Connectivity’ error? This is often caused by entering an incorrect password. Follow the instructions on page 8 and try entering your password again. If you still get this error, try restoring the settings of the router using the instructions above. This can also be caused by turning DHCP off in the router management pages. We recommend resetting the router back to its factory settings if you have done this. 14 0820801 D100 UG.AW2.indd 14 19/9/08 09:56:19 How do I check the signal strength of the 3 network on my router? Login to the Router Management Interface. You will notice five icons in the top right corner of the page. 3UK: the signal indicator for when roaming outside of the UK. SIM: informs you that the modem has detected the SIM card. WLAN: informs you that the wireless LAN function is turned on. 3G or HSDPA: shows that the modem has discovered and connected to the 3 3G or HSDPA network. SIG: shows the strength of the 3 network. One green bar is for a weak signal and five bars for strong. Move your D100 router near to a window to improve signal strength and performance. I have turned off DHCP and still want to connect without resetting my router. How can I do this? We don’t recommend you do this. Please reset your router to factory settings. If you do wish to continue, please consult your computer’s manual on how to manually configure an IP address for your computer. I have connected my Huawei E160G modem into the router, but I can’t read the memory card. It’s not possible to read the memory card on this device through the D100 router. To access the contents of the memory card, please connect the memory card to your PC through a card reader. Or connect your dongle, with the memory card in, directly to your computer using a USB port. I forgot my password how can I reset it? To reset your Router Management Interface password, you must reset your router to the factory default settings. 15 0820801 D100 UG.AW2.indd 15 19/9/08 09:56:21 I am connected to the router, but I have no access to the internet. This could be down to the SIM that you have in your modem. If the SIM has a PIN number set, the router will not connect to the Internet until you have entered the PIN number in the management Interface. Log in to the management interface as shown on Page 11 and click on Advanced Settings. Click on PIN Code Management and in the PIN Code field, enter the pin code you have set on the SIM. Click Apply to save the settings. Why does my router always tell me that the modem is non-existent? Only Huawei USB modems are compatible with the D100 router. If you have one of the other 3 branded USB modems (Such as the ZTE MF622), you should return your D100 router to the shop immediately. My usage for the month is much higher than I thought. Why is this? This could be for a number of reasons. Streaming video sites such as YouTube© will use very large amounts of data and this may be causing it. It could also be that your computer is automatically downloading updates for your Operating System and for other programs you may have installed. To stop this please make sure that Automatic Updates are set to prompt you to download, instead of automatically downloading all updates. You should check this setting for any security software you may have as well as these often automatically update as well. When I log in to the router, I always get the set up wizard. This will continue to appear when you log in as Admin until you have completed the wizard. If you have already completed this, and it still continues to begin each time you log in, please reset the router to factory settings and try again. 16 0820801 D100 UG.AW2.indd 16 19/9/08 09:56:23 Error codes.
