User Instructions - MATV Regulated Power Supply Units PSU350 PSU350M 1. Introduction The PSU350 PlugTop Plug-in and PSU350M Desktop Power Supply Units have been specifically designed to power one or more of the Maxview MATV amplifier modules. The PSU’s provide +12V regulated d.c voltage at up to 350mA of current. They are intended for Indoor use only and the 2m long d.c lead enables optimum positioning of the associated MATV amplifier module. Generous output current rating means that both PSU’s can be used in many installations without fear of exceeding the d.c current requirements available from either power supply unit. N.B The PSU350 and PSU350M are fully electronically interchangeable. 2. Power Supply and MATV Amplifier Module Combinations The power supplies are designed to supply +12V regulated d.c up to 350mA maximum current. A single power supply unit is thus capable of powering any of the following MATV Amplifier modules/Masthead combinations. 1. Any Maxview 22dB, 32dB or 38dB Amplifier module plus any UHF Masthead that requires 130mA or less at +12V 2. Any permutation of 2 x 22dB or 2 x 32dB UHF or VHF amplifier modules + UHF Masthead requiring 50mA or less at +12V. Using the 2 way phono splitter lead BP4063. (Separate PSU’s for each amplifier can also be used if so desired). 3. 1 x MAA38U or MAA38UV 38dB Amplifier module + 1 x MAA32V 32dB VHF/FM module + MHA13U/S 13dB UHF Masthead (25mA). Using the 2 way phono splitter lead BP4063. (Separate PSU’s for each amplifier can also be used if so desired). N.B. A single power supply is not capable of powering 2 x 38dB Amplifier module, two separate power supplies must be used. Either power supply is fully electrically and mechanically compatible with the Maxview LPI350 Line Power Injector Unit. These two units when used together produce a high current (350mA) fully screened masthead +12V Power Supply Unit. 3. Installation Recommendations The Plug Top Power Supply unit requires a convenient 230V mains socket. The Desktop Power Supply can be located up to 2m away from the mains socket or the main distribution board. The power supplies are fully safety approved for operation up to +50˚C ambient temperatures. Always ensure that there is sufficient ventilation around the power supply. It is normal for the PSU’s to run fairly warm to the touch and If two or more Plug Top PSU’s are used in a system they can be safely installed in single or dual switched mains sockets. The minimum recommended separation between PSU’s is 50mm. N.B We do not recommend plugging the Plug Top Power units side by side into multi-way mains extension leads. Secure the associated MATV amplifier module to a convenient flat surface using the screws as required within 2m of the associated power unit allowing sufficient clearance to plug the d.c connector in and out and for air circulation around the amplifier. Connect the RF cables via a suitable earth bonding block using crimped ‘F’ connectors to the amplifier inputs and outputs. Next connect the power supply into the mains supply then plug the 2m d.c lead into the 12V d.c power socket of the MATV amplifier. Ensure that all installation work is completed before switching on the appropriate power supply unit. 9111140 Iss 5 User Instructions - MATV Regulated Power Supply Units PSU350 PSU350M 5. Typical Applications The MATV power supplies can be used in various system configurations not possible with most other MATV products. More details of the MATV amplifier modules and some of the typical system applications can be found in the MATV User Instruction Leaflet. Many other installation possibilities exist for the power supply units and associated MATV amplifier modules.
