Multimedia PDFs Phone: 800.615.4296 | [email protected] | vablet.com This guide will show you how to enrich your PDFs with multi-media, such as: video, HTML5, hyperlinks, etc... If authored locally, all links are active offline as well. iOS ONLY Step 1 Gather All Media into One Location Save all the media to one folder on your computer and name it MultiMedia (case sensitive). This enables quick access during authoring in Step 2, and will prepare your file for upload to the vablet app. Step 2 Author the PDF Create desired links to the media within the PDF file. See steps on following page for Adobe Acrobat. Link to media that will play remotely, i.e. Youtube, HTML5. Feel free to create sub-folders of images or media, as needed. Use the following link protocol for the interactive media being inserted into the PDF document: Media Type Step 3 Local Remote Overlay Video* fpkv:// fpky:// Overlay HTML fpkh:// fpkw:// Overlay Audio fpka:// fpkb:// vablet File on Console VabletGeneral://openFile/28324 -ORVabletGeneral://openFileName/testname * For autoplay, add this code to the Local URL above: ?autoplay=YES Uploading the Media Save your PDF file as Main.pdf (case sensitive) into the Multimedia folder. Then zip or compress the folder and rename the zip file with the extension .fpk to prepare for the Upload Manager on the Admin Console (admin.vablet.com). (See pg. 3 for detail) TIP Need to Make Changes? No Problem, just make your changes and save them to your existing folder on your computer and compress/zip the new folder. Then replace the existing file in the Media Library by clicking to Edit the file; look for the ‘Change File’ option towards the bottom. Multimedia PDFs con. Phone: 800.615.4296 | [email protected] | vablet.com Author a Multimedia PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro Open the PDF in Adobe Acrobat Pro OPEN the Toolbar, then click ‘Add/Edit Link’ Create the hot spot area or zone the media will play or run Then select ‘Custom Link’, then Next Click the ‘Actions’ tab at the top of the next box and open the drop down menu to Select Action: ‘Open a web link’ Click add and enter the name of the file to be viewed in your hot spot, with the proper prefix from above. i.e. To enable a video to be played, the filename would be entered as follows: fpkv://YOURFILENAME.mp4 Click ‘Okay’ and save the PDF file as Main, then return to Step 3 above, on the previous page of this User Guide. If you have subfolders for your images or media, then the web link to add may appear as: Fpkv://subfoldername/filename.mp4 Editing a Link Right click (Cntrl Click) on the graphic that was previously linked; then click PROPERTIES. Click the ACTION tab, then click on ‘Open a web link’ and the Edit button will become active. * For autoplay, add this code to the Local URL above: ?autoplay=YES Multimedia PDFs con. Phone: 800.615.4296 | [email protected] | vablet.com Step 3 Detailed Instructions to Prepare for Upload The files you plan to integrate within the PDF (i.e. video or HTML files...) need to be included in a zipped file, prior to uploading to the Admin console. Put all active video files for the PDF inside a folder. VERY IMPORTANT: The folder MUST be named MultiMedia (case sensitive) and the PDF file - named Main.pdf - must be inside the folder before zipping. Zip the folder (Windows) or Compress the folder (MAC) and RENAME the extension from .zip to .fpk Now the .fpk file is ready for upload to your vablet account and simply push it like a regular PDF file.
