Fax function Function type Using this machine, scanned images can be sent or received via network or telephone line. This User's Guide introduces the following functions. Fax (G3) function Internet Fax (I-FAX) function PC-FAX function
Notes on using fax (G3)/PC-FAX functions This machine can connect to the following telephone lines. Subscribed telephone lines (including facsimile communication networks) PBX (Private Branch exchange, 2-wire) Check the following for the telephone line to be used. You cannot connect a business phone as an external telephone. If a digital dedicated line is multiplexed in an enterprise network, fax transmission speed may be limited, or the Super G3 fax may not be available. Communication error may occur on rare occasions due to the factory default setting. This is because the multiplex device limits the frequency band of the line to the utmost limit based on the assumption that the line is intended for voice communication. Also, these restrictions differ depending on the device that make up the network. For details, contact your network administrator.

Available operations with Internet Fax function Scanned data will be sent and received as an E-mail attachment (TIFF format) via intranet (in-house network) or Internet. A destination device that supports Internet Fax receives the E-mail and prints the attachment. Because a communication is performed over an intranet or the Internet, related costs can be much lower than those required for sending a typical fax. Specify the E-mail address of the destination in order to send data. This machine can also receive documents via Internet Fax and print them in black and white. Received documents in black and white can be printed, but received original data in color or gray scale are discarded and not printed.

Available operations with PC-FAX function PC-FAX transmission Usually, for sending a fax, hand-written or printed documents are loaded on the fax machine, and then sent. Using the fax driver allows you to directly send a fax without using paper simply by operating the computer. Data created by application are sent to this machine via the USB interface or network using the fax driver. Then the data is passed to the printer controller of this machine. The printer controller rasterizes images (expands output target characters and images to bitmap data). This data is accumulated in the memory of this machine, and sent as a fax in the same manner as usual fax jobs.

Reference In Windows XP/Server 2003, even if you remove the fax driver using the above procedures, the model information file remains in the computer. For this reason, when reinstalling the same version of the fax driver, the driver may not be rewritten. In this case, remove the following files as well. – Check the "C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32e86" folder ("C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\e64" folder in the e64 system), and if there is a folder of the corresponding model, remove it. Note that if the PCL, PostScript, and XPS drivers are installed in addition to the fax driver, all model information is removed. To leave drivers other than the fax driver, do not remove the folder. – From the "C:\WINDOWS\inf" folder, remove "oem*.inf" and "oem*.PNF" ("*" included in the file name indicates a number, which differs depending on the computer environment). Before removing these files, open the inf file, and then check the model name described on the last few lines to confirm it is the file for the corresponding model. The number of the PNF file is the same as that of the inf file. – When you have deleted a file using [Remove driver and driver package.] in Windows Vista/7/Server 2008/Server 2008 R2, this operation is not required.

Configure line settings for sending fax.
ECM OFF The Error Correction Mode (ECM) is turned off when sending data. ECM is an error correction mode defined by ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union - Telecommunication Standardization Sector). Fax machines equipped with the ECM feature communicate with each other, confirming that the data sent is free of errors. Thus, communication can be made free from disturbances due to line noises, etc. If noises frequently occur, it may take a slightly long time to complete a communication compared with ECM OFF. After sending has been ended, this machine automatically returns to ECM ON. Reference This machine sends faxes in ECM ON unless ECM OFF is specified. This function cannot be used together with the polling RX function.
V34 OFF V34 is a communication mode used for super G3 fax communication. When the remote machine or this machine is connected to a telephone line via PBX, however, you may not establish a communication in the super G3 mode depending on telephone line conditions. In this case, it is recommended that you turn V34 off to send data. After sending has been completed, this machine automatically returns to the V34 mode. Reference This function cannot be used together with the polling RX function.
Check Dest. & Send The specified fax number is compared with the remote fax number (CSI) and data is sent only when those fax numbers match. If they do not match, the communication will fail; therefore preventing a sending error. Reference To check the destination and send, the fax number of the recipient's fax machine must be registered with the recipient's fax machine.
6.9.2

You can use this function only when the remote machine is our model and supports the closed network reception (with password) function. Use the Keypad to enter the password.
Reference This function cannot be used together with F-code transmissions or polling reception.
F-Code TX This function allows you send documents to a specific User Box of the remote machine by entering the SUB address and the password. Specific User Boxes include the followings. Confidential TX – Documents are sent to the Confidential RX User Box of the remote machine. Enter the destination User Box number in the SUB Address box and the confidential transmission password in the Password box. Relay TX – Documents are sent to the Relay Distribution User Box of the remote machine when the remote machine supports the relay distribution function.
