If you are not sure of the type of power supplied to your home, consult your local power company. -Disconnect the product from the mains before you start any maintenance or installation procedures. OVERLOADING : Do not overload a wall outlet, extension cord or adapter as this may result in electric fire or shock. LIQUID : The product should not be exposed to liquid of any kind. In addition, no objects filled with liquid should be placed on the apparatus. ATTACHMENTS : Do not use any unsupported attachments as these may be hazardous or cause damage to the product. CONNECTION TO THE AERIAL : Disconnect the product from the mains before connecting or disconnecting the cable from the aerial. Failure to do so can damage the aerial. CONNECTION TO THE TV : Disconnect the product from the mains before connecting or disconnecting the cable from the TV. Failure to do so can damage the TV. EARTHING : The aerial cable must be buried in the ground. LOCATION : Place the product indoors to avoid exposing it to lightning, rain or sun. -Do not place it near a radiator or heat register. -Make sure it has more than 10 cm clearance from any appliances susceptible to electromagnetic influences, such as a TV or a VCR. 2 SAFETY WARNING -Do not place the product on an unstable cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table where it can fall. A falling product can cause serious injury to a child or adult, and serious damage to the appliance. LIGHTNING, STORM or NOT IN USE : Unplug the product from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna during a thunderstorm or when left unattended and unused for long periods of time. This will prevent damage to the unit due to lightning and po wer-surges. EXTRANEOUS OBJECTS : Do not insert anything through the openings in the unit, where they can touch dangerous voltage points or damage parts. REPLACEMENT of PARTS : When replacement of parts is required, be sure the service technician uses replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or those that have the same characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitution may result in additional damage to the unit. Warning To avoid damage of the power cord or plug; -Do not modify or process the power cord or plug arbitrarily. -Do not bend or twist the power cord. -Make sure to disconnect the power cord holding the plug. -Keep heating appliances as far as possible from the power cord in order to prevent the cover vinyl from melting. -The main plug shall remain readily operable. HOW TO CONNECT YOUR RECEIVER Please DO NOT plug in the main power supply cord until you have finished all the connections. 1) CONNECTING THE RECEIVER WITH ANTENNA Connect the coaxial cable to “ANTENNA IN” terminal marked at the rear of the receiver. All cable connectors should be finger-tightened; do not use any kind of wrench on the cable over connectors. The cable should be 75 Ω impedence coaxial twisted at the end with an “IEC” type connector. 2) CONNECTING THE RECEIVER TO TV To connect the receiver with your television, connect the SCART connector marked “TV SCART” to the respective SCART port of the TV. 3) CONNECTING YOUR VCR To connect a VCR, the receiver is provided with a SCART terminal on the rear marked "VCR SCART." Using a SCART connector, the VCR can be connected to the receiver. HOW TO CONNECT YOUR RECEIVER 5 4) CONNECTING EXTERNAL AUDIO HI-FI SYSTEM To connect any external Audio Hi-Fi system, the receiver is provided with two RCA connectors at the rear, marked “Audio L and R” respectively to connect the left and right audio. In case of Audio Hi-Fi systems with digital audio input, please connect to S/PDIF. 5) CONNECTING YOUR ANALOG RECEIVER To facilitate users using analog receivers to view analog channels, the receiver has been provided with a loop through terminal marked as “TV/VCR”. Connect the coaxial cable from this terminal to the RF input terminal of your analog receiver. By keeping the receiver in standby, you will be able to tune and view analog channels from your analog receiver. 4. HARDWARE DESCRIPTION 4. A. FRONT PANEL POWER CH INFRARED SENSOR 1) STANDBY BUTTON Switches between operation and standby modes. 2) CH-/CH+ BUTTON Moves the TV/radio channel up or down. 3) INFRARED SENSOR Receives the IR commands from the RCU. Do not block the view of the sensor. 4) 7 SEGMENT DISPLAY Displays the current channel number. While the receiver is in standby mode, the display will show the current time. 7 SEGMENT DISPLAY SMART CARD INTERFACE SLOTS 6 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR RECEIVER 5) SMART CARD SLOT A slot for a Smart Card Although some TV and radio channels are free to air, most TV and radio/music channels are available on a subscription basis and can only be enjoyed via a Conditional Access component. The Conditional Access component is a removable Smart Card. Please note that the gold chip on the Smart Card should face downwards and inwards when you insert it into the Smart Card Interface. Automatic Channel Search 10 HARDWARE DESCRIPTION ■ Press the OK key, and the receiver will automatically search for all TV/radio channels. SYSTEM SETUP 11 6. MENU OPERATION 5. B. Manual Channel Search for Transponder You can automatically search and save all TV and radio channels of a transponder as follows : Main Menu / Installation / Manual Channel Search Manual Channel Search The main menu is classified into several sub menus which will carry out the various operations individually. MAIN MENU After installing your antenna and receiver with appropriate connectors, plug in the AC main power and turn on the receiver. ■ Select Menu / Installation / Manual Channel Search. Press the “MENU” key of the RCU. You will see the “Main Menu” on the TV screen as follows. You can move into the desired submenu using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼) or numeric keys. Press the “OK” key to confirm your selection. If the “Main Menu” is locked, note that you should enter the PIN code in order to move into the corresponding submenu such as “Edit Channels” menu,“Edit Favorites” menu and “Installation” menu. ■ Select the transponder from the transponder list you want to search. If you cannot find it from the transponder list, insert all transponder information (i.e., Channel no, Frequency, and Bandwidth). ■ Press the OK key, and the receiver will automatically search for all channels of the selected transponder. The default factory PIN code is “0000”. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 1. EDIT CHANNELS You can edit channels in various channel lists – channel lock, delete channel, move channel, edit the name of a channel, and sort the channel list. Select “Edit Channels” menu in main menu, and you will be asked to enter your PIN code. The “Edit Channels” screen willl be displayed. 12 SYSTEM SETUP MENU OPERATION 13 1. A. CHANNEL LOCK Select the “Channel Lock” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Select the channel that you want to lock or unlock from the channel list using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼) and the page “up/down” keys ( ). Press the “OK” key to confirm your selection. Also, you can use the “♬” key to select either TV channel list or radio channel list. Once the channel is locked, every time you try to watch the program, you will be asked to enter the PIN code. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 2. EDIT FAVORITES You can edit the favorite channel list (add/delete/move a channel), which facilitates you to easily find your favorite channel from the favorite channel list. The favorite channel is classified into eight favorite categories depending on its genre. Select “Edit Favorite” menu in main menu, and you will be asked to enter your PIN code. The “Edit Favorite”screen will be displayed. 2. A. ADD FAVORITE CHANNEL 1. B. DELETE CHANNEL Select the “Delete Channel” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Select the channel that you want to delete from the channel list using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼) and the “page up/down” keys ( ). Press the “OK” key to confirm your selection. Also, you can use the“♬” key to select either TV channel list or radio channel list. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 1. C. MOVE CHANNEL Select the “Move Channel” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Select the channel that you want to move from the channel list using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼) and the “page up/down” keys ( ). Press the “OK” key to confirm your selection. Move it to the position where you want to place it using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼) and the “page up/down” keys ( ). Press the “OK” key to confirm. Also, you can use the “♬” key to select either TV channel list or radio channel list. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 1. D. EDIT CHANNEL NAME Select the “Edit Channel Name” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Select the channel that you want to edit from the channel list using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼) and the “page up/down” keys ( ). Press the “OK” key to confirm your selection. Select the character you want to edit using the browse keys (▲·▼,◀·▶). Press the “OK” key to confirm. Save the character currently selected using the “F2” key. Also, you can use the “♬” key to select either TV channel list or radio channel list. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 1. E. SORT CHANNEL LIST Select the “Sort Channel List” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Press the “OK” key to confirm. Select the sort type you want to sort using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼). Press the “OK” key to confirm. Also, you can use the “♬” key to select either TV channel list or radio channel list. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 14 MENU OPERATION You can choose TV channel list or radio channel list in an alternative way by pressing the“♬” key on the RCU. By pressing “FAV” key on the RCU, you can choose your favorite channel group out of eight favorite groups. Select the “Add Channel” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Select a channel that you want to add to the favorite channel list using the“up/down” keys (▲·▼) and the “page up/down“ keys ( ). Press the “OK” key, and the selected channel will be added to the favorite channel list. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 2. B. DELETE FAVORITE CHANNEL You can choose TV channel list or radio channal list in an alternative way by pressing the“♬” key on the RCU. By pressing the “FAV” key on the RCU, you can choose your favorite channel group out of eight favorite groups. Select the “Delete Channel” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Select a channel that you want to delete from the favorite channel list using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼) and the “page up/down”keys ( ). Press the “OK” key, and the selected channel will disappear from the favorite channel list. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. MENU OPERATION 15 2. C. MOVE FAVORITE CHANNEL You can choose TV channel list or radio channel list in an alternative way by pressing the“♬” key on the RCU. By pressing the “FAV” key on the RCU, you can choose your favorite channel group out of eight favorite groups. Select the “Move Channel” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Select a channel that you want to move using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼). and the “page up/down” keys ( ). Press the “OK” key to confirm your selection. Move it to the position where you want to place it using the “up/down” keys (▲·▼) and the “page up/down keys ( ). Press the “OK” key to confirm. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 3. INSTALLATION “Installation” menu helps you setup a variety of parameters necessary for receiving signal, adding new service, upgrading new software and resetting the channel data. Select “Installation” menu in main menu, and you will be asked to enter your PIN code. The “Installation” screen will be displayed. 2. D. RENAME FAVORITE GROUP You can choose TV channel list or radio channel list in an alternative way by pressing the“♬” key on the RCU. By pressing the “FAV” key on the RCU, you can choose your favorite channel group out of eight favorite groups. Select the “Rename Favorite Group” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Press the “OK” key and select the character you want to edit using the browse keys (◀·▶, ▲·▼). Press the “OK” key to confirm. Save the character currently renamed using the “F2” key. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 2. E. SORT CHANNEL LIST. You can choose TV channel list or radio channel list in an alternative way by pressing the“♬” key on the RCU. By pressing the “FAV” key on the RCU, you can choose your favorite channel group out of eight favorite groups. Select the “Sort Favorite List” icon using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Press the “OK” key to confirm. Select the sort type which you want to sort using the “up/down” keys (▲∙▼). Press the “OK” key to confirm. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 16 MENU OPERATION 3. A. AUTOMATIC CHANNEL SEARCH Your receiver includes the preprogrammed information of transponders. Select “Automatic Channel Search” menu in “Installation” menu, and the following screen will be displayed. Select the desired transponder using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Set “Channel no”, “Channel Frequency”, “Search option” field to the appropriate value using the left/right keys (◀·▶) or number key at each field. MENU OPERATION 17 Check the signal strength. Press the “OK” key to start the “Automatic Channel Search” procedure. You can see the progressive status of channel searching. Please note that the “Automatic Channel Search” procedure may take a few minutes. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 3. C. PARENTAL CONTROL This function prevents children or unauthorized persons from watching programs. You can also change the PIN-Code (Personal Identification Number). Select “Parental Control” menu in “Installation” menu, and the following screen will be displayed. 3.C.1 Receiver lock To lock the receiver, select “Receiver Lock” in the “Parental Control” menu and change it to “On” mode using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). 3. B. MANUAL CHANNEL SEARCH It will be more convenient to use the “Manual Channel Search” procedure when you want to search channels for a specified transponder. As in “Automatic Channel Search”, “Manual Channel Search” also searches all channels broadcasted over a specific transponder using its predefined information. You can add a new transponder if you cannot find it in the predefined transponder list. Select “Manual Channel Search” menu in “Installation”menu, and the following screen will be displayed. 3.C.2 Menu lock To lock the Main Menu, select “Menu Lock” in the “Parental Control” menu and change it to “On” mode using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). 3.C.3 Information timeout You can choose the length of time the information is shown on the screen. 3.C.4 Change PIN Code You can change your PIN code from factory default value “0000” as follows: Select “Change PIN Code” in the “Parental Control” menu using the “left/right” keys (◀·▶). Press the “OK” key. Then you will be asked for a new PIN code. Once you enter a new PIN code, the receiver will ask you to enter it in again. After you enter a new PIN code twice, the PIN code is changed permanently. If you forget the PIN code, you have to contact the distributor to find it out. 18 MENU OPERATION MENU OPERATION 19 3. D. TIME SETTING 3. F. FACTORY DEFAULT You can change the time of your receiver and also switch on/off the timer function in this menu. Select “Time Setting” item in the “Installation” menu and the following screen will be displayed. This is to restore the factory set values in case the user encounters some problems after changing any new values of channel data or others data which may cause error. Select “Factory Default” menu in “Installation” menu and press the “OK” key. If you want to continue, select “Yes”. The receiver will be reset automatically. Please note that the “Factory Default” procedure may take a few minutes. . 4. SYSTEM SETTINGS Time Mode Time Adjustment Current Time On Time Off Time : Select the time mode of your receiver. In Auto mode, your Receiver will use the information from the satellite as time reference. In manual mode, you can set the time of your receiver manually. : Set the time offset from the UTC (GMT). Useful in auto mode only. : Set the current time manually. Useful in manual mode only. : Set the time when the receiver will be automatically turned on. : Set the time when the receiver will be automatically turned off. 3. E. RECEIVER UPGRADE You can upgade the software through the serial port when new software is released. Please contact the distributor for receiver upgrade. The distributor provides you with useful information and new software for the receiver. 20 This menu helps you to setup video output mode, time, screen type and other parameters. Select “System Settings” menu in main menu, and the following screen will be displayed. In order to get the signal from other receivers instead of the antenna, set “Tuner 5V” option to “Off”. You can find “Tuner 5V” option in “System Settings”. MENU OPERATION TV Select Screen Type Menu Transparency OSD Skin Tuner 5V : Select video output mode - CVBS or RGB : You can choose either 4:3 or 16:9 according to the TV type. : You can select the transparency of the menu. : You can choose the OSD Skin. : You can choose the tuner option. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. MENU OPERATION 21 5. LANGUAGE SETTINGS 6. CHANNEL LIST This menu helps you to setup menu, audio, subtitle language parameters. Select “Language Settings” menu in main menu, and the following screen will be displayed. Menu Language : Select the language for all menus and OSD screens. Primary Audio Language : When the channel is changed, this audio language will be selected automatically. : If the primary audio language does not match the audio language of the channel, this audio language will be selected instead. : You can turn on/off the subtitle. : You can turn on/off the background of the teletext subtitle. This option has no effect to DVB subtitle. : When the channel is changed, the subtitle language will be selected automatically. : If the primary subtitle language does not match the subtitle language of the channel, this subtitle language will be selected instead. : Show description of the scene for the auditorily challenged Secondary Audio Language Subtitling Teletext Subtitle Background Primary Subtitle Language Secondary Subtitle Language Subtitle Hard of Hearing 22 MENU OPERATION This menu helps you to easily select the channel that you want to watch. The channel list is separately constructed for each satellite. Press the “OK” key, and the following screen will be displayed. You can get the information of channel number, channel name, and whether the program is scrambled or locked. To watch a specific channel, first select it by pressing the “up/down” keys (▲∙▼) and the “page up/down” keys ( ). Then, press the “OK” key. This enables you to move to the specific channel. When you press the “♬” key, you can alternatively select TV or radio channel list. When you press the “FAV” key, you can see all channel lists, FTA channels or favorite channel list. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. MENU OPERATION 23 8. TROUBLESHOOTING 7. CHANNEL GUIDE Press the “GUIDE” key, and the following screen will be displayed.The titles of the current and next programmes on different channels will appear. The information may include : current time / channel name, name of the current and next programme, the start and total time of the current programme, the start and total time of the next programme. Programme information will be available only when it is included in the transmission. When you press the “♬” key, you can alternatively select TV or radio channel guide. Press the “MENU” key or “EXIT” key to return to the previous menu. 8. AUDIO Press the “AUDIO” key. Select the audio mode which you want using the “left / right” keys (◀·▶). Some programs are broadcasted with one or more alternative language soundtracks. You can select the preferred audio language for soundtrack using the “up/down” keys (▲∙▼). About the Receiver Problem Does not display LED on the front panel or the receiver has no power. - Connect the power cord to the power outlet properly. - Check if the receiver is in standby mode. No pictures on the screen - Check if the video output port is firmly connected to the TV. - Check if you have selected the correct channel or video output on your TV. - Connect the audio cords properly. 1. Turn on the receiver. 2. Select [Main Menu  Installation  Receiver Upgrade  Upgrade via Terrestrial] 3. As soon as the “OK” button is pressed, the receiver will detect the new firmware. 24 FIRMWARE UPGRADE THROUGH TERRESTRIAL - Check the volume level of the TV. - Press the “MUTE” key. No sound Remote control does not operate 7. FIRMWARE UPGRADE THROUGH TERRESTRIAL Upon installing the new receiver, please make sure it detects the new firmware with the following procedures. Solution - Point the remote control directly towards the receiver. - Check and replace batteries. - Check the signal strength in the “Automatic Channel Search” menu. On - Screen Error Messages - Connect the cable properly. Searching signal - Check the signal strength in the “Automatic Channel Search” menu. Unrecognized Smart Card - Check the Smart Card.
