Using KeepVid and iMovie to Make Movie Trailer Mashups How to Use KeepVid to extract videos 1. Type http://keepvid.com in address bar:
2. Do not Download AVS converter 3. Go to YouTube and copy the URL from the YouTube video you want to download:
4. Paste the URL into the Keepvid URL text field and click the grey Download button.
5. Select Allow when this message comes up.
6. Choose the Download MP4 option, 720p
7. Right click it and you can then select Save File As and choose where you’d like to download it. Your desktop is the recommended location.
Using iMovie Before You Begin • Go to iMovie > Preferences > Select the checkbox Show Advanced Tools Overview Screen

01. Project Library (Click) -‐ where all movie projects on computer are displayed 02. iMovie Project -‐ shows current position in clip and is used for editing 03. Monitor Window -‐ views clips or your final iMovie project 04. Play Project -‐ can play selected movie project either in viewer or full screen 06. Frame Adjustment -‐ allows you to see thumbnails of clips by amount of frames per thumbnail within (the same feature is available in the Source Video window) 08. Flip Switch -‐ swaps the Source Video and the iMovie Project from top to bottom 09. Adjusts size of thumbnails used in iMovie 13. Options Tab -‐ this is where you can work on voice overs, crop, to adjust audio, or adjust video 14. Turns on/off Audio Skimmer 15. Edit browsers -‐ different editing browsers such as adding music, photos, text, transitions, and animations 16. Source Video -‐ shows all events from a particular source that can be used for editing
Create new project • Go to File > New Project • Select No Theme • Give your Project a Name: Movie Trailer – Russell • Select Widescreen as movies and their trailers are in this format • Frame rate choose 24.
Import Video Clip • File > Import > Movies • Choose to create a new event and name it the title of your current project (ex. Movie Trailer – Russell) • Keep the video to large for importation purposes. iMovie will optimize the video and import the video. Note: if you’re doing multiple sources then you can import as much video as you need at this point. • Otherwise you can drag and drop your desired clips to your iMovie Project. Split Video • Sometimes you want to split a clip into two because you want to add another slide, add a different clip in between two frames, or want to mess with the sound in a particular one like reduce the talking so the voice over you’ve created appears over it. • To do so, line up the red line where you want to split the clip. • Then right click it then select the option to Split Clip

Import Audio • In the Edit Browser, select the Audio ( )icon, you can locate a file and import it. Generally these files need to be in iTunes. • Drag and drop the audio file where you want it to appear. Adjust Audio • Use your mouse to select the audio portion of the clip. If done correctly you will see:

Then you can move the middle line down to reduce the volume. Two points will appear; this allows you to fade in and fade out the volume.
Fade In/Fade Out Audio • Select the Gear icon

Select Audio Adjustments

The inspector will appear, make sure Audio tab is selected, then choose Fade in and Fade out and choose how many seconds you’d like for it to be.
Adding a Title Slide • Select the T ( )in the Edit Browsers and then it’ll give you options for your title slide. • Drag and drop when you find one that you like and place it where you want it to appear. • It will then ask you to Choose Background at which you can click whichever choice you prefer. • Then in the Monitor Window, you can edit the text accordingly. Save and Exporting iMovie • Find the icon of hard drive of the computer that you are working on and click on it.

Click on the Users folder and click on Your Username. Click on the Movies Folder. You should see two folders. One will be named iMovie Projects and the other will be named iMovie Events. Note: You need both of these folders in order for your project to properly save.
Shortcut Keys You can do the following actions by using shortcut keys: • Select Command + C or Control + C (PC) to copy. • Select Command + V or Control + V (PC) to paste. • Select Command + X or Control + X (PC) to cut. • Select Command + Z or Control + Z (PC) to undo the last action.
