*Even though we tell them not to! And…What if workstation is corrupted or gets a virus? It sure would be nice to get everything back exactly how it was without reinstalling.
Intended to create NAS appliances. Also has 25 user Workstation Backup Built-in Part of the “Windows Storage Server” line. Other versions are: Workgroup, Standard, & Enterprise. Backup is NOT what comes with Windows. It is similar to previous Windows Home Server code. Has similar and overlapping features with SBS 2011 Essentials but allows multiple boxes on the domain.

Automated daily computer backups save a complete image of up to 25 Windows or Macintosh computers. Simple recovery of individual files and folders or restore an entire computer from image-based backups. Bare Metal Restore of workstations using CD or USB Key. Appliance Self Backup – In the Highly Reliable Systems version the WBA can Backup itself (and the workstation datastore) to the appliance’s removable drive tray. Note: Workstations with GPT partitions (greater than 2TB) are not supported for backup.
WSSE won’t install it’s “connector” software on a server OS except for Windows Multipoint Server 2011. Also doesn’t support 64bit version windows XP But…..as long as you have room on the box, nothing prevents you from sharing a folder and sending your backup using third party software (as you would with any NAS).
Dashboard - Monitors the status and health of computers on the network from a single view. Helps ensure computers are being backed up on a regular basis and that the backups are completing successfully. Monitors hard drives in the storage server and helps ensure adequate space is available for shared folders.
Add up to 6 internal hard drives (up to the physical drive bays of your OEM device) and 10 external drives (connected via USB, eSATA, Firewire, etc.). eSATA port included on back of High-Rely WBA appliance. Supports Incremental backups and has default retention policy allowing restore of versions back 6 months But…. Be aware that the “Server Backup” or self backup is limited to 2TB due to VHD restrictions.

One of the more common issues when deploying WSSE is failed Microsoft Connector problems. Some reasons include:
◦ Workstation has a reboot pending (caused by software installation) ◦ Workstation has bad windows.net environment ◦ Needed WSSE Server services are not started (caused by backup folders not being in place at boot time) ◦ Windows Media Center services not running on PC ◦ Server password contains a backslash ◦ Task scheduler task image corrupt
