Utilities – Adding Users If you roll over a user acct, it will give you an option to edit. This allows you to change a users role and reset their password. You can add a new user from this screen by clicking on new user at the top of the page. An email account is unique on WordPress and can’t be used for more than one user to set up an account. When setting up a new user don’t forget to set up their role, the default is “Subscriber” and has no real access to do anything. Utilities – Back Up and Recovery Running a backup: Click create backup Click the OK on the This may take a few minutes dialog box. When the backup is complete you will get a backup successful message. (Verify the file size is not 0, if the file size is 0 the backup didn’t complete. This is due to storage limitations and you will need to delete an older backup from the archive on the server, see more below. The backup is stored on the server and can be restored from the links on the wp clone page. For business continuity purposes you will want to make a backup onto your local machine. To do this click “copy URL” next to the backup you want to save and paste it into your browser. This will download a zip file. We recommend keeping the latest copy on line in google docks or drop box. We recommend keeping at least 4 iterations on the server. Backups need to be run at least once a week to make sure any site changes are captured. (that is blog posts as well as changes to the web site. Utilities – Back Up and Recovery GETS Mining.com uses WP Clone for backup. This will restore the site as above including images database and plugins. An additional back up can be made of the database and files from Tools > Export from the dashboard menu. With these files a WordPress expert can help you restore your site. We recommend saving these files as well whenever you run a backup. Saving Weaver Pro Settings – Weaver Pro II allows you to save the website settings. Settings are saved from; Apperance>Weaverpro II Admin> Save/Restore and need to be saved to the local machine and to Dropbox. We have done the first save and created an initial file, A new file needs to be made any time updates are made to theme and settings. Restoring The Backup: There are several scenarios that would require restoration. The database or file system has been corrupted or erased. This can happen from various causes, human error to system error on with hosting provider (not likely) to hacking. Whatever the cause your site is down. If the site is accessible you can login from the dashboard and restore. If not you will need to contact your service provider they will help you to set up a new iteration of WordPress. The base URL is getsminingint.com the domain name for the site is getsmining.com. This needs to be mirrored on the new iteration in order to restore the site. Note this is the same procedure if you are moving to new hosting, Once the acct has been set up you need to load WP clone to restore the site. That zip file will be available in the Dropbox archive or can be downloaded from WordPress. NOTE IN THIS CASE THE RESTORE IS RUN FROM THE ZIP FILE. To restore in the dashboard goto WP Clone, choose the backup that you want to restore usually the latest. Or choose restore from URL in this case you need to host the zip file online. The easiest way to do this is to use the public Dropbox folder. (it isn’t public but allows you to create a URLL that you can share.) Click restore backup and follow the instructions. Utilities – Plugin Updates A great deal of the functionality and flexibility of WordPress is provided via Plugins. They are small programs that integrate with and extend your WordPress theme. Plugins used in GETSMining.com include Forms, Popup images, Security and additional Short Code support among others. Plugins are provided by many third party developers as either paid or open source licenses. There are also a set of core tools provided within WordPress itself. The sides scrolling presentations used on GETS for example was introduced by WordPress in August of 2013 and superseded an number of plugins. Along with core tools WordPress also distributes plugins that move beyond its core functionality under Jetpack© an integrated suite of plugins that are tightly integrate with the latest versions of WordPress. Also Weaver Pro II the theme we use has a core set of recommended plugins that work well within that theme. We try to stay as much as possible within this core set of tools adding additional plugins only after carefully testing for compatibility. We make sure they play well together. Plugins, however are updated regularly to add new functionality, to fix problems and plug security holes and to stay compatible with new releases of WordPress. This can cause issues that can break parts of a site even though we have been careful regarding the tools we have chose. So we recommend updating plugins on the training site first, verifying that they don’t cause problems and then updating on the production site. Plugins that need updating are highlighted on the dashboard menu as orange dots with numbers in them (the number of plugins that need updating) under the heading Plugins and Jet Pack. Note: Jet Pac also highlights new options as they become available it and they aren’t required. Installing Updates: From the dashboard click on Plugins when there is an update indicated by the orange circle. Then click on installed plugin. Plugins needing updating are highlighted in pink. Check the box on the left then click update under bulk actions or at the lower right of the listing. Update Dialog box Next download the new plugin zip from the plugin website and save to a plugin folder on your local machine. It’s important to have a copy of the zip file in case you need to reinstall to a previous version of the plugin. Existing plugin zip files are available in Dropbox and should be downloaded to the local machine also. To restore an old plugin, deactivate then delete the plugin causing the conflict then goto “Add New” at the top of the plugin screen and choose upload. Upload the previous version from your local archive and activate.
