1. Verify the contents of your assembly match the appropriate packing list for your make and model. 2. Preassemble the reducing elbow or cobra head elbow with the carbon fiber intake tube as shown. a) Align the elbow so that elbow opening and fitting holes face the rear with the flat surface of the intake tube facing upward. b) About 1” (one inch) of the tube behind the bend line indicated should be visible. c) Tighten clamp to hold but still allow for adjustment in future steps. ** CAUTION: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN CLAMP! OVER TIGHTENING WILL CAUSE CATASTROPHIC TUBE FAILURE. ** ITEMIZED PACKAGING LIST - AMI-VCAI-80/85 • • • • • • • 1 – Carbon Fiber Intake Tube 1 – Cone Filter with Clamp 1 – Aluminum Heat Shield with Rubber Edge Seals 1 – 4” to 3.5” Reducer Elbow 1 – 4” T-Bolt Clamp 1 – 3.5” T-bolt Clamp 1 – 1/2” Crank Case Breather Hose Coupling • 5.7 - Straight Coupling • 6.1 - 90deg Elbow Coupling 3. Disconnect negative battery cable. 4. If you are working on a 5.7L, first remove the engine beauty cover by lifting it up off of the grommets. 5. Remove Factory Air Intake. a) Loosen the hose clamp that holds the factory intake tube to the throttle body. 1 – Carbon Fiber Intake Tube 1 – Cone Filter with Clamp 1 – Aluminum Heat Shield with Rubber Edge Seals 1 – 4” to 4” Cobra Head Elbow 2 – 4” T-Bolt Clamp 1 – 1/2” Crank Case Breather Hose Coupling • 5.7 - Straight Coupling • 6.1 - 90deg Elbow Coupling b) Disconnect the breather hose from the factory air box lid. c) Pull both lockdown tabs towards you on the factory air box lid to remove the lid from the base. d) Lift the intake tube towards you and disconnect the wiring harness from the air temperature sensor. e) Remove the factory intake hose and lid assembly from the vehicle. f) Gently remove the temperature sensor from the factory intake tube using a rocking or turning motion, and set it aside. ** ITEMIZED PACKAGING LIST - AMI-VCAI-90 • • • • • • d) Set the assembly aside. CAUTION: DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER OR ANY OTHER ABRASIVE CLEANERS AS A LUBRICANT. DOING SO MAY DAMAGE THE SENSOR. ** g) Remove the factory air filter. h) With a 10mm socket (not included), remove and save the bolt that holds the factory air filter base to the radiator support. i) Remove the air filter base from the vehicle. 6.Install Aluminum Heat Shield/ Mounting Shield. a) Place Mounting tab in factory mounting slot in coolant overflow tank. ** REQUIRED TOOLS • • • • 10mm Socket Wrench 11mm Socket Wrench Flathead Screwdriver Polishing/Cleaning Cloth *OVER TIGHTENING CLAMPS WILL CAUSE CATISTROPHIC TUBE FAILURE* **Arrington Engines/ShopHEMI.com is not responsible for tubes damaged from over tightening clamps** NOTE: DUE TO MODEL YEAR AND MANUFACTURING TOLERANCES THE FITMENT OF THIS TAB WILL VARY. IF USING AN AFTERMARKET COOLANT OVERFLOW TANK, THE INCLUDED HEAT SHIELD MAY REQUIRE ADJUSTMENT / MODIFICATION. ** b) Align factory radiator support bolt location with mounting hole in air box. c) Reinstall factory radiator support mounting bolt using 10mm socket wrench. 7. Install air temperature sensor in rubber elbow / cobra head using a twisting motion being careful not to damage sensor diode. ** CAUTION: DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER OR ANY OTHER ABRASIVE CLEANERS AS A LUBRICANT. DOING SO MAY DAMAGE THE SENSOR AND CARBON FIBER TUBE FINISH. ** 8. Install air tube assembly. a) Slide Filter opening through hole in air box. b) Slide rubber elbow or cobra head over throttle body. c) Adjust rubber elbow at intake tube to ensure tube tightness and fitment into air box. d) Tighten clamps at throttle body and tube. ** CAUTION: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN CLAMPS! OVER TIGHTENING CLAMPS WILL CAUSE CATASTROPHIC TUBE FAILURE AND/OR DAMAGE THROTTLE BODY INLET. ** 9. Install Green™ High Performance Air Filter. a) Remove Filter from plastic wrapper. b) Place Clamp around filter base loosely. c) Slide filter over inlet of carbon fiber intake tube. ** CAUTION: DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER OR ANY OTHER ABRASIVE CLEANERS AS A LUBRICANT. DOING SO MAY DAMAGE THE FINISH OF THE CARBON FIBER TUBE. ** d) Position filter being sure that filter is seated straight on tube. e) Once alignment is verified tighten clamp. ** CAUTION: DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN CLAMP! OVER TIGHTENING WILL CAUSE CATASTROPHIC TUBE FAILURE. ** 10. Reinstall factory crankcase breather hose to adapter in intake tube. ** NOTE: DUE TO MODEL YEAR AND MANUFACTURING TOLERANCES HOSE SIZE WILL VARY. THE INCLUDED ADAPTER WILL PRECISELY FIT A MAJORITY OF MODEL YEARS, HOWEVER ON SOME MODELS A HOSE CLAMP MAY BE REQUIRED TO ENSURE A FIRM FIT. A SIMPLE CLAMP MAY BE PURCHASED FROM YOUR LOCAL HARDWARE SUPPLIER IF NEEDED. ** 11. Reconnect Air Temperature Sensor to wiring harness. 12. Check your work. a) Ensure no debris is in the intake path. b) Make sure all hoses, clamps, wiring connections, and bolts are tight. 13. Remove finger prints and grease from the assembly and tube with a polishing cloth. ** CAUTION: DO NOT USE BRAKE CLEANER OR ANY OTHER ABRASIVE CLEANERS. DOING SO MAY DAMAGE THE FINISH OF THE CARBON FIBER INTAKE TUBE. ** 14. Reconnect the negative battery cable. 15. Blow away your competition and friends. ** CAUTION: THE EXTREME HORSEPOWER GAINS OF THE ARRINGTON VELOCITY COLD AIR INTAKE MAY CAUSE EXCESSIVE SPEEDS.
