Intermediate Video and Audio Forensics
VideoFOCUS is a family of digital multimedia analysis and clarification tools providing an efficient, seamless workflow for both novice and experienced forensic video analysts and audio experts. Our intermediate product, VFSource, offers direct import from numerous standard and proprietary DVR file formats; screen and analog video capture from legacy formats; frame and still image extraction capabilities; and a basic, easy-to-use set of processing tools to both reformat as necessary and improve the clarity of both the video and the audio. Finally, VFSource exports to standard multimedia file formats with an audit report included.

All VideoFOCUS products provide multiple ways to quickly get your evidentiary video and audio into the tool, format it for correct playback, and export it to any standard format that may be required. VFSource directly imports proprietary files retrieved from many popular multicamera DVR systems (models from Samsung, GE, Speco, etc.). For file formats that are not yet supported, VFSource will make a secondary “besteffort” to import any recognizable video data from the file.
The comprehensive Import Media menu provides extensive support for directly importing most standard multimedia file formats (video, audio, and images), plus numerous proprietary and multicamera file formats from many popular DVR models. Additionally, any set of sequentially-numbered image files can be imported as video at a specified frame rate. Once imported, each video or camera view can then be reviewed frame-byframe and processed.

Proprietary DVR Player Capture Example For unusual proprietary file formats not supported by Import Media, use the Capture tool to record the video and/or audio from the manufacturer’s player software running on the same computer as VideoFOCUS. Playback from external sources, such as analog VCRs, can also be captured in an uncompressed form using supported third-party hardware.
Avaliable video formatting operations include Demultiplex, Spatial Properties, and Temporal Properties; where audio is present, there are also adjustable Audio Properties.
Demultiplex automatically sorts interleaved and/or switched camera views into separate video sequences.
Temporal Properties can adjust frame rate and/or split odd and even fields into frames to reduce motion blur and “twitter” effects in interlaced video formats.
Spatial Properties allows cropping desired portion of screen, rotating to correct angle, and/or adjusting aspect ratio of video.
Audio Properties can select which audio channels to keep (“Channel Select”), adjust the timing relationship (“Sync Adjust”), and/or specify the desired stereo or mono “Channel Mix”.
VFSource provides a basic, easy-to-use toolkit for video, image, and audio clarification.
Video Filter menu provides Grayscale, Sharpen, Equalize, Blur, and Levels Adjust tools for improving the clarity and viewability of the images and video.
All Filter windows allow comparing before and after in perfect sync to see and hear the effect as parameters are adjusted (Levels Adjust filter shown as a typical example). Additionally, video filters can be applied to selected areas.
Audio Filter menu provides several tools for clarifying the audio track(s) and maximizing the ability to hear and understand voices.
The built-in QuickEnhance Plug-In is a simple, yet effective, tool for reducing common background noises in the audio signal such as hum, refrigeration and A/C compressors, motors, engines, hiss, and static, while also providing EQ and gain to improve the frequency response and audibility of voices.
The Blur filter allows multiple selected areas to be obscured to the required degree, or to remain clear, with movement optionally tracked if required, thereby providing the ability to redact the end product video or image prior to export.
With the profile-based Export menu, you can output your finished work product to any of multiple standard file formats, depending on the intended usage (e.g. compressed files for e-mailing, uncompressed files for high-quality viewing).
