product data sheet ViBE Encoder MPEG-4 AVC HD Encoder Grass Valley™ products from Thomson offer the most comprehensive, multi-format solutions for acquisition, production, storage, playback, and transmission—and a strong foundation for centralized, proactive status and activity monitoring. The ViBE MPEG-4 HD Encoder is based on unique Grass Valley compression algorithms. It takes advantage of all the available compression tools to achieve maximum quality and efficiency. These products include the ViBE digital content delivery platform. Supporting 1 RU and 5 RU chassis, the ViBE encoder platform is the most compact available. It supports a variety of DTH and video distribution/contribution applications including IP, ATM, and PDH/SDH backbones. It also features internal and external redundancy schemes to ensure high availability and hot-swappable modules to minimize operational costs. The encoder also supports constant and variable bitrate encoding, and features embedded Dolby 5.1 audio compression. It also provides dual Gigabit Ethernet IP outputs alongside the ASI transport stream. The ViBE line includes the AVC HD encoder, which offers significant bandwidth savings compared to MPEG-2 compression without sacrificing picture quality. It’s perfect for broadcasters who want to launch high-definition (HD) services quickly. key features • MPEG-4 AVC main/high profile Level 4 compression including FRext • CBR and VBR encoding • MPEG-1 Layer II, Dolby Digital 2.0 or 5.1 (AC3) and AAC audio compression • Up to 12 stereo audio channels • Advanced pre-processing and noise reduction • IP over Gigabit Ethernet output • Management via embedded Web server, SNMP software, or Grass Valley XMS™ eXtensible Management System (including redundancy management) • 1U chassis product data sheet Specifications Support Services & Training Video Input VBI Processing HD-SDI (SMPTE 292M) serial digital video • Closed captioning and extended data • VITS and D/VITC • Possible transmission on four PIDs Audio Inputs • Up to eight embedded audio channels in HD-SDI • Six (optionally 12) AES/EBU or embedded channels • Three (optionally six) AES/EBU or embedded channels in AAC mode • Input rates of 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, and 48 kHz ASI Input ASI input for data, subtitle, or other component injection Outputs • 1 to 30 Mb/s • Burst mode on 75Ω BNC • SPTS format • Service information to EN 300 468 standard • Two identical ASI streams • Two Gigabit Ethernet ports Encoding and Processing Video • MPEG-4-AVC MP or HP Level 4 at 720p/50, 59.94, or 60, and 1080i/50, 59.94, or 60 • FRext support (high profile) • 2 Mb/s to 20 Mb/s • CBR or VBR; 188 or 204 bytes • Cut, fade, and flash detection • Adaptive GOP • 3/2 pulldown System • Management via XMS eXtensible Management System or embedded Web server • SNMP compliant • Software upgrade via Ethernet 10/100Base-T • Flextream port for statistical multiplexing with other Grass Valley encoders • Licensed software keys for option setting • N + P redundancy Physical Characteristics • 1U x 19" (44.5 mm high x 445 mm wide x 675 mm deep) • 10.7 kg The Grass Valley Support Services & Training team delivers complete service solutions that enhance your return on Grass Valley products and global systems solutions. Advanced training and proactive support, by reducing down time, keeps your equipment and staff performing at optimum productivity and quality.
