Video and edTPA Recording Digital Video • • • • • • Get all consent needed to record Get a camera that has enough memory and battery life to last your entire lesson Set it up on a small tripod – much more stable Get the camera as close as possible to where you will be for better audio Get as much overhead lighting as possible and decrease glare (e.g. from whiteboards) to have better video Make a test video for 10-30 seconds in your classroom before you have students & adjust according to what you find. Play back on a computer to get better sense of the audio volume. Camera To Computer • • • Make whatever physical connection is necessary to get video onto your computer and copy the files; they may be buried in some subfolder on the camera or card Delete it from your camera once it is copied over ONLY work with video once it is on your computer Video Editing You need to edit or “trim” your video down to fit the length requirements found in your handbook. We recommend the tools below for video editing. In addition to time restrictions, no single video file may be larger than 250 MB. Tutorial videos and links can be found here: http://edtpa.wcu.edu/ Video Editing in Video Cutter & Compressor (Windows 10) • • • • • • • Open Video Cutter & Compressor – available in the Windows Store for free Click on the Album or Camera button to find and select the video from your computer. If your video is large, it may take a while to load at first. Click the play button to make sure it is the correct video. Click the Trim button at the bottom of the window. Drag the video so the beginning of the clip you want is at the playhead and click “Set Start” Drag the video so the end of the clip you want is at the playhead and click “Set End” Check the Duration to make sure the length of the clip is what you expected Click the checkmark at the bottom of the window, then click the Save button Make sure your video is less than 250 MB in size. If it is not, drag the compression slider to the right until it is under 250 MB and even a little further to make sure. Click the Save As button at the bottom of the window and save this video. Video Editing in Quicktime (Mac Only) • • • • • Open your video with Quicktime In the Edit menu, select Trim. The Trim bar will appear as a yellow border around the timeline Drag the beginning and end of the yellow trim bar to encompass only the part of the video you want to keep. Click on the Trim button. Check the length of the clip to make sure it is the correct time. Save this video with a new name Shrinking Video Size (Mac Only) Even after editing in Quicktime, you may find your video is over the limit to upload to the website. The tool I recommend to shrink video is called Handbrake. Go here: http://handbrake.fr/ A tutorial can be found here: http://edtpa.wcu.edu/ Basically, you will: • • • • Find the Picture settings either as a tab in the bottom half of the screen OR as a button in the toolbar at the top Change the Width setting to 480. You may need to check a box indicating the “aspect ratio” should be locked Click the Browse button to indicate where you would like the output file save and what you would like to name it. Do NOT save this over your original video. Click the “Start” button. It may take time but your video will be processed within a few minutes
