BetSprint is a full featured settling program into which all bets are entered at the beginning of the day, the results are entered during racing and all bets are settled. The major benefits are 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Speed of settling Accuracy Instant payout out ability Enhanced security control Mini field book Bets are entered as they are taken this means the work load is shifted more to the morning as opposed to a heavy workload in the afternoon when you would be taking bets and settling bets at the same time. This means that there is very little pressure when actually taking bets during the racing period as most of the work has already been done thus leaving the settler/manager to concentrate more important things such as running on liabilities, customer care etc. Speed of settling Upon receiving a result all bets concerned on receiving that result are marked up within a few seconds this means all bets are ready for immediate payout thus facilitating the payout to customers which means that they are then in the position to have another bet 'this gets the money round faster' thus increasing turnover. A good example of this would be national bets are all settled within 3- 4 minutes of entering the results and ready to payout. Accuracy As bets are taken and entered into the machine it is ONLY necessary to check the bet ONCE at the point of entering, once this is done the operator does not need to look at this bet again unless there is a large liability building up on the bet. Instant payout Payout is a separate section which is available at the touch of one key. It has many features which assist in the accurate payout of bets. If a customer brings several slips these are totalled automatically with each payout also being given © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page1 individually. The counter clerk does not have to add these bets manually thus increasing accuracy and saving time. Lost tickets can be found very speedily on either: The The The Any bet number or part of the bet number. stake of the bet. returns due on the bet. winning horses involved with the bet. Once a slip is found it can be marked as 'paid no ticket' and can NEVER be paid again If the number is re-typed the bet will be shown as paid no ticket and no return will be displayed and nothing will be added to the payouts total. Bets which are not entered into the computer e.g. Obscure multiple combination bets can be added to the daily payout list manually and are therefore available through the computer at any later stage. Enhanced security All bets are timed from entering the computer which allows a cross check against any cameras used. The major benefits are the ability to view EVERY bet that has a return (we are not concerned with bets which have no return!) highlighting any bets based on return, time of entry etc. These bets can then be speedily checked against the camera details as they will be printed out in number sequence. This means these are the ONLY bets which need to checked for security purposes. Mini field book As each result is entered and bets are paid a mini field book is displayed on the screen which shows liabilities running up on horses in the next to 6 to 10 races of the afternoon. This means that the settler manager is instantly aware of any "out of character" running on liabilities and as such can take the necessary action. The operator is given an overall picture of the days liabilities. Individual liabilities are catered for in a separate section where any bet which is making more than a preset limit will be stored to a separate section. These bets are available to view at any time. This is based on the manual system where the settler will take out and place to one side any slips which he wants to keep an eye on. On each individual slip will be shown the amounts running on for each part of the bet double trebles etc and also the total running on to the next horse. e.g. (TRO 69) means 69 pounds total running on money. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE To load program, simply click on BetSprint terminal from the BetSprint folder on your desktop. Program will then proceed to load, during which time if necessary, indexing of various files will take place. You will then see a simple Menu screen, offering 4 options. The options are as follows, 1 2 3 4 Add bets, or view existing bets. Change sheet to another day Enter new runners, and/or races System maintainence :Normal operating mode. :Use another days bets. :Add any new horses. :Set defaults for program. 1. Add bets, or view existing bets This is the normal operating mode, for entering bets, entering results, locating payouts etc. The system will be run in this mode 90% of the time, and as such the selection bar defaults to this position, it only requires the (see © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page2 diagram below) key to be pressed. All other modes are basically to assist in maintaining the system ,and generally, will not be used more than a couple of times a day. After pressing , you will then be taken to the normal operating mode, and the screen will be displayed split into two parts, simulating two betting slips. (if any bets have been entered) The LEFT hand slip is used as an entry screen, for any new bets that you may need to enter, the RIGHT hand screen, is used to display the last bet entered, or any other bet you may wish to view for checking purposes. The screen looks just like two betting slips, and can be thought of in the following way. The LEFT HAND bet is always a BLANK SLIP, until you WRITE (type in this case) something on to it. Once you are sure the bet is correct, you press a key , which tells the computer that this bet is correct, and it will be ENTERed into the computers databases, e.g. permanently stored. The RIGHT HAND slip, is either the last bet you ENTERed into the computer, or any other bet you wish to display. The RIGHT HAND slip is used for display ONLY, the LEFT HAND slip is used for ENTERing bets into the computer. Entering Hcaps. If you have a new set of runners then the computer needs to know which races are handicaps so that it may work out the place odds on each race. Normally when runners are sent to you by Betsprint we would have already marked the races for you. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CHECK THESE EACH DAY AS WE CANNOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR RACES WRONGLY MARKED. This is done by pressing F7 (Menu key) in the "ADD NEW BETS" section and the choosing the option "Enter Hcaps" Simply put the cursor on to the race you wish to tag as a HCAP using the ARROW UP and DOWN KEYS and PRESS . This will then mark the race as shown below. When you have marked all the races you can then press ESC and you are finished. Pressing on a race marked as a HCAP will UNMARK it. This is just a toggle, press once it marks the race, press again it unmarks it. Check all races, when you are sure they are correct then Press ESC. Date Boxes When a date box is popped up in most cases you will not need to change the date presented if you do need to change the date presented use the up arrow key to increment the day by one conversely use the down arrow key to decrement the day by one. Use the PgUp to increment the month by one, and PgDn to decrement the month by one. Once you have the date you require, press , the date box will then turn red, at this stage if you do not have the correct date pressing any key will return it to the change date mode. Pressing when the box is red means you wish to accept that date and any subsequent action will take place automatically using the date selected Pick Boxes. When the computer requires you to pick from a list a pick box will be popped up. If the selections all begin with different letters then you may select the item you require by pressing the first letter. If the above selections are in the pick box, the cursor bar will be on the first selection e.g. TOM CLAPTON if you require BRIGHT SAPPHIRE then pressing the letter'B' will take you to the first occurrence of a word beginning with 'B' in this case BREM HILL ROSIE. Pressing 'B' again will take you onto BRIGHT SAPPHIRE. TOM CLAPTON WHISTING GIPSY BREM HILL ROSIE NORDIC DELIGHT CARLA FAIR EMPERORS WARRIOR MR LION FRESH MINT © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 BRIGHT SAPPHIRE < with the cursor on BRIGHT SAPHIRE will select this horse and enter it into the bet. Other ways of selecting are to use the up and down arrow keys until you are on the selection you require, OR HITTING THE will move the bar cursor down to the next selection. We use this method because in practise it has been found to an extremely quick method of selection. It is important that you realise that this only occurs in PICK BOXES, in an edit field the simply produces a space. (Remember an edit field has a flashing cursor) LEARNING THE KEYBOARD. It is of course important to learn which keys do what, but most keys on this system perform just as they appear, e.g. they type in the letters that make up a bet. The keys listed below have special functions, and can soon be learned, with a little patience, they give you many powerful functions which are the essence of this program. This gives complete control over the days bets, typically settling and working out any running on money within ONE MINUTE of entering any result. Special keys are used when entering a bet, and are as follows, The main key to learn is the ENTER, or RETURN key, this has the effect of telling the computer that you have finished typing the current line and wish to have the data you have typed read in by the computer and evaluated for any further action. It is also used when you move the LIGHT BAR up and down in menu selections, when you are on the required selection, pressing ENTER tells the computer that you require this selection. THIS IS THE MOST OFTEN USED KEY ON THE KEYBOARD, AND IS USED EVERY TIME YOU WISH TO SELECT FROM A MENU, OR HAVE FINISHED TYPING A LINE, AND WISH THE COMPUTER TO RECORD / OR ACT ON THE DATA YOU HAVE TYPED. This key is used in menus, in conjunction with the up/down arrow keys, which are self explanatory, and are used to move up and down the menu selections. PLEASE NOTE: In menus, there is another easy way of putting the LIGHT BAR onto the selection you require, try pressing the first letter of the selection you require, for example if you wish to choose a selection beginning with the letter 'T', press 'T' on the keyboard, and the LIGHT BAR will jump down onto the first selection beginning with 'T' Subsequent presses of the letter 'T' will move the LIGHT BAR onto the next occurrence of that letter. (If there are any more) When the BOTTOM selection has been reached, pressing the letter again will take you back round to the TOP selection. In menu selections where all letters begin with the same letter, e.g. all horses beginning with TE for example, there is little point in using T to move to the next selection, these selections can be selected by hitting space or can be selected using the ARROW keys,(Up, Down). Using the : hitting the will move the LIGHT BAR down, onto the next selection, and makes for very quick input, for example if you have 4 horses beginning with GOLDEN, and you want the third selection, press twice to move to that selection, then press to select that item. In normal mode, these keys have the following functions Insert is number of Delete is many, and used to INSERT a bet number, and is used if wish to INCREMENT the the last bet entered (The bet on the right hand side) used to DELETE a bet number, used if last bet entered is one number to needs moving down one (The bet on the right hand side) © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page4 Functions keys F1 The HELP key, use at any time to view key setup. F2 RESULTS key, used tell system, you have a result. A small window will be popped up, and you will be prompted to enter the 1st, 2nd and 3rd (and 4th as required) or 1st and 2nd. Also whether the winner is favourite, rule4 Stewards enquiry, etc. F3 REPEAT key, repeats last bet typed, or a whole bet. If you are in the middle of typing a bet, for example .10 XX .20 DOUBLE, and you wish to repeat this bet, pressing will copy details of the previous bet, useful for bets where a client has 4 or 5 bets of the same type on the SAME slip. If you are at the beginning of a NEW bet pressing will repeat the PREVIOUS bet, the whole bet, useful if a client has a series of bets the same, on SEPARATE slips, e.g. 5 Lucky 15's etc. F4 SETTLE key. This key initiates the settling procedure, for example after a RESULT has been entered, it is not necessary to press this after every result. For example if there are TWO or THREE results across the card, then they can be entered then the SETTLE key pressed and all the results will be settled together saving time. A warning box will be popped up, informing you that the bets require settling, so that you don't forget to settle. Also, if you go to the payouts section, a warning box will be popped up, to inform you that there are bets requiring settling. Earlier bets may still be paid out, but BE WARNED, if you wish to pay a bet for a race that has not been settled, and that bet contains a winner from the result just entered, then you must leave payouts, and SETTLE , at the bets screen, before paying the bet out. F5 EDIT key. Pressing this key will pop up a box asking if you wish to edit the bet in the RIGHT hand window, this would normally be the last bet taken, or could be any other bet, if you have brought it into view, simply by typing in the bet number, and pressing , this is useful where a customer has backed a Non-Runner, and wishes to change his bet, or where you have typed an error. The option of deleting the bet is given, as you may simply wish to copy the bet, and leave the original as it is, by NOT deleting it, the bet number can be changed, and the copy saved under a new bet number. Sometimes useful where a bet is a near replica of another bet. If the bet is a CREDIT BET, e.g. has a customers name attached to it, (shown at the top of the right hand bet), then you will be asked if you wish to keep the CONNECTION, say yes if you are merely editing that customers bet, no if you have inadvertently attached the name to that slip. F6 PAYOUTS key. This takes you into the payouts section, which is a completely separate section, and is dealt with later in detail. A blank screen with a box 4 digits wide is displayed, and requires only that you type the bet number of the required payout. Details of that bet will be displayed, and any other payouts, and a total will be given. There is a small help menu, displayed at the bottom of the screen. If there are any pending bets to settle, you will be warned as you enter payouts, and you must escape, and SETTLE from the bets screen, unless you know that the bet you require is already settled. F7 MENU key. F7 is also used as a MENU key in the payouts section, and will pop up a window, displaying a set of OPTIONS, which may be selected by moving the LIGHT BAR onto the appropriate selection, and pressing Each of these options will be dealt with later under a separate MENU section. F8 FAVOURITES key. Pressing this key, pops up a window displaying each meeting for the day, put the LIGHT BAR onto the selection, and then press , then the race times for that meeting will be displayed, the LIGHT BAR will be on the next available race, (usually the required selection), or if a series of FAVS are being entered, the LIGHT BAR will step down each race © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page5 time in turn, to make it easy to enter an accumulator, or yankee, etc, on FAVS all at one meeting. Each time F8 is pressed, AND THE SAME MEETING SELECTED, the LIGHT BAR will step down. If a different meeting is then selected, each time the LIGHT BAR will default to the next available race. F9 Not used, as the most commonly used key is the next key, F10, this key is not used and if it is hit in error nothing will happen. F10 SAVEBET key. This will move a bet from the LEFT side of the screen, over to the RIGHT side of the screen, which means the bet is now SAVED, and editing is finished, if you wish to RE-EDIT the bet, you must use the F5 key. Pressing this key tell the system that you are happy with the bet on the LEFT, and wish to save it to the bet table. This key is used after entry of EVERY bet, therefore is sited alone (F9 and F11 are not used) so that you can be sure of hitting the correct key. MENU Section (F7) key. Add all bets : Index all files : Mark non runners : Show non runners : Remove non runners : Transfer Bets to Pay: Delete a Bet : Calculate Bets : Void bets shown : Winners shown : Zap/void races : Enter H'caps : Sum today’s bets, voids etc. Maintenance function. Mark non runners. Show previously marked Non Runners. Remove Non Runners given in error. Use this only at the end of each day. Delete bet entered in error. Re-Calculate all bets. Show void bet numbers and amounts. Show winners for each meeting. Mark a whole race as Non Runners Mark / delete a race as a Handicap. Add all bets This will add total stakes, and payouts, and bets left to pay, also total void bets, and display on the screen until you press a key. Index all files This function will sometimes resolve an error, when new runners have been added, or occasionally when an index file is not written to disk correctly. Mark Non Runners. Pops up a box, asking for horses name, when a horse is selected, you will be asked to confirm, the horse will then be marked as a NR. Show Non Runners. All previously marked Non Runners will be shown in a Pop Up window, so that Non Runners can be viewed, and checked. Also shows races marked as VOID. Remove Non Runners. Pops up a window, same as Show Non Runners, but if is pressed on a selection, then this horse will be removed from Non Runners list, if is pressed, then a box will Pop Up, asking for name to be typed, this is used where a result is changed, e.g. after an objection, and the winner MUST be removed in this way, and all bets resettled. Also after marking any non runners, or removing a non runner, it is necessary to settle bets Transfer bets to Pay © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page6 Run only once, at the end of each day, this copies all winning bets, that have not been paid out, to a separate file, and displays them on screen, so they may be viewed, also updates all credit accounts, and ZAPS the databases, ready for a new days bets. The days bets are copied to new files and can now only be accessed via the main menu, by changing the sheets to match that date, Several safety checks are built in to prevent accidental transferral of bets. Delete a bet Pops up delete, window, deletes a small window, and asks for the bet number of the bet you wish to unlike , which offers to delete only the bet in the RIGHT hand and also moves the bet to the LEFT side, for editing, this command ONLY the bet, and does not allow editing. Calculate bets. This re-calculates ALL bets, useful if you have voided a complete race, or several races, when a Non Runner is marked, all bets containing that horse are marked as requiring settling. When a race is marked void, horses are not marked as requiring settling, but a flag is set, so when is pressed, all bets are settled anyway. Using this function allows you to settle ALL bets straight away, so that payouts on void bets may be paid out. Void bets shown Shows all current void bets separately, each bet number, and the amount void on each slip. This facilitates stamping each bet as void, as the bets can be easily be located by the bet number, they are stored in sequence. CTRL F3 Set the limit which will be used to decide whether a bet should be placed into Big bets so that the operator can access it by pressing CTRL F9. Increment the amount by pressing up arrow, decrement with down arrow. Limit can be set from 10 to as high as you like. We recommend starting with 20 pounds or so and then setting it higher to suit your type of business. CTRL F4 Attach Credit Use this key combination to attach the bet on the right hand side of the screen to a particular credit customer. After pressing this key combination a box will appear asking you to start typing the credit customers name. Just type the first couple of letters and press . A list of customers names that start with the letters you have typed will appear. Now select required customer and press . The customers name will appear in colour above the bet on the right hand side of the screen and that bet is now attached to that customer. Any payout on that bet will be shown as paid out as it is in fact being paid into his account and will not be transferred to the payouts file at the end of the day as it is not a cash payout. You may change details of the bet with CTRL F5 in which case you will asked if you wish to keep the credit connection. This means if you say yes, then when the bet is stored again it will still be attached to that credit customer. Only reply no when asked if you are required to keep the credit connection if you want to remove that customers name from the bet. IF YOU INADVERTANTLY ATTACH A BET TO THE WRONG CREDIT CUSTOMER JUST RE-ATTACH BY SELECTING THE CORRECT NAME. THE OLD NAME WILL BE OVER-WRITTEN. The credit bets should be checked before transferring bets to pay at the end of the day as this is when the bet is transferred to the actual customers account. Up until that moment you can change any details of the bet as it has not yet been sent to the customers account. After transferring the bets to pay you cannot change the bet as it has now been transferred and any adjustments would be made with the INSERT A BET on the CREDIT MENU. © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page7 CTRL F5 Edit bet. This key combination will bring the bet which is showing on the right hand side of the screen back over to the left for editing. Use this if you have forgotten to enter a price, or have entered a horse incorrectly, or if a customer wishes to change a horse on his bet e.g. if he has backed a Non Runner. REMEMBER IT IS IMPORTANT TO BRING UP THE BET ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE SCREEN WHICH YOU WISH TO EDIT IF IT IS NOT THE LAST BET ENTERED. DO THIS BY TYPING THE NUMBER AND PRESSING CTRL F6 Credit menu The credit menu is accessed by this key combination. Remember there are 3 main screens used in running BetSprint. These are the bet entry screen which is what you will use most of the time. Also the payouts screen and now the Credit Menu screen CTRL . This means you can access these screens with just key presses instead of having to go out to the main menu and speeds up the use of BetSprint. Just practice a little with these screens so that you understand how they work. Press to go into Payouts. Now press Esc to leave payouts and come back to the Bet Entry screen. Now Press CTRL and then at the same time press You will now be on the credit menu screen. Press Esc to leave Credit Menu and you will once again be back in the Bet Entry screen. You CANNOT go from Payout to Credit menu, or vice versa you must leave each in turn to get back to the Bet Entry screen and then select the other. CTRL F7 Seek bet. This is a useful little function that allows you to find all bets which contains a particular horse. When both keys are pressed a box will appear asking you to type a horses name. When you have done this then every bet containing that particular horse will be shown. You can use this to search for a customers bet if he has lost his ticket (If it is a bet for today’s racing) or to look at bets which may have a horse which you have a large liability on. Or even to look at horses which were concerned with the last winner e.g. a 33/1 winner. CTRL F8 This will toggle the bet on the right hand side of the screen from Official result back to FPP and back again. Whatever the bet was when you press these two keys, it will change to the opposite, e.g. if your shop pays FPP and Betsprint is set up for FPP then it will change it to official result. If you press CTRL F8 again it will change back to FPP. The opposite applies if you are official result. CTRL F9 Big bets. Pressing these two keys will show you any big bets that are held over. These bets will be displayed in sequence, just press any key to move to the next bet. At the bottom of the screen a set of numbers will be displayed. e.g. Bet 1 of 7 Bet 2 of 7 etc. as you press a key the bets will be flipped through until all are shown. You may leave this section by pressing Esc at any time. Pressing key will remove that bet from the list. These bets are not removed automatically as you may want to refer to this bet after it has won so the onus is on the operator to them when they have no further interest in them. Any new bets making an amount over the Preset limit will be added to the list automatically when you settle. ACTUAL BET ENTRY Editing what you have typed. When you are typing characters into the computer this is known as an edit field and is highlighted by the fact that you have a flashing cursor (this is a small white flashing box) this means that the © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page8 computer is waiting for you to type in letters or numbers to either identify a bet description or a horse. Other means of data entry are achieved through menus these can be identified by a bar cursor which extends the full width of the box. Edit cursor ± <<--a flashing box this size. The flashing edit cursor is controlled by various keys on the right hand side of the keyboard these are the arrow keys. Up arrow - takes you up to the previous line Down arrow takes you down to the previous line Left arrow Takes you back one character WITHOUT deleting what is already there (this is useful if you just need to change one letter without destroying anything else you have typed) Right arrow. This is the opposite of this and is used to move you back to where you were. Backspace key. Moves back one character and destroys what was already there in other words this rubs out what you have already typed. Home Key Will take you take you to the first character in the line you are typing End key End has the opposite effect and takes you to the last character numbers may be typed on the top row of the main keyboard NOT KEYS LABELLED - OR ON THE CALCULATOR STYLE KEYPAD ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE KEY BOARD. (+ and - keys) The plus and minus keys have special functions in BetSprint and are used to add the tax to a bet (+) OR deduct tax from a bet (-) If tax has already been deducted and minus is pressed it will have no effect. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENTERING RESULTS When Entering a winner only, e.g. waiting for a photograph, you may enter the winner only, even if you have no SP, just press , leaving all the SP fields empty, then settle, all bets where prices have been taken will then be settled, ready for immediate payout. When a bet is displayed, with no price it will be shown as follows to signify price is not in yet, when you have result, just enter it again, with price. IF YOU WISH TO ENTER A TOTE RESULT (e.g. AMERICAN RACING ETC) JUST PUT IN RESULT AS NORMAL, BUT DO NOT PUT ANY SP'S (YOU DON'T HAVE ANY!) Just select the names, then when you come to the mini results menu, select Tote, Betsprint will then ask you if it is a Tote Only result. Answer yes to this question and the result will then be marked as finished when you have entered all the tote prices. Correct. Use this option when you have the result as you want it AND ONLY THEN. When you press on this option you must remember that any details for the results will be written. All is not lost if you have entered a wrong price though as you © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page9 can simply call up the result again by typing ANY horse in that race, the result will be brought up exactly as it was entered, and you with the cursor on the PRICES fields so that you can change the prices if you need to. This is quicker than pressing ESC which means you will lose any information entered this time round. E.g. If you enter a result as follows: 1 TROODOS 2 HORNBLOWER 3 CAVALIER CROSSET : : : : : : << Price Fields (Empty at moment) and you are waiting for SIS to give the prices then you can press 3 times (once for each price field) and then you will come to the Correct menu option above. If you press while on the correct option, the result will be saved as is EG: with no SP'S. This is often the best thing to do as it means you can put more bets in or settle with the result with no SP'S and all bets where they have taken a PRICE will be settled. This means these bets are available to pay out if you wish. When you have the SP's for the race simply press to enter a result again and type in ANY horse from that race, the result as far as you had it will then be brought up for you finish entering. Pressing ESC instead of on the "Correct" menu option would have the effect of making the result stay as it was e.g. nothing new that you have entered this time will be changed. Pressing on the "Correct" option will save all new additions like prices, marking of FAVS etc. IMPORTANT Pressing ESC at any time in result entry will lose anything you have marked this time. IT WILL NOT CHANGE ANYTHING YOU MAY HAVE ENTERED PREVIOUSLY! IF YOU HAVE MADE A MISTAKE IN SELECTING THE 2ND OR 3RD HORSE THEN YOU MUST GO ONTO THE "CLEAR ALL" OPTION ON THE RESULTS MINI MENU. THIS COMPLETELY CLEARS THE RESULT AND YOU CAN START AGAIN. Pressing in the results section when the bar cursor is on the "Correct" option will save any new changes you have made. Favourites. This option will allow you to mark favourites and 2nd favourites and is fairly straight forward. You will come to a new menu which asks you whether it was Favourite of 2nd Favourite. Select whichever, then another menu will ask you whether it was CLEAR. Exactly the same applies to 2nd Favourites. Just press on the selection that applies) Rule 4 If the rule 4 applies to bets where the punter has taken an early price then select this option. You will then be prompted for a start bet no. This will be the first bet taken after the time of the rule 4 change which SIS shows. Look at the time on the price change, go through the bets to find the first bet after this time. If there is another rule 4 later then look at the nearest bet number to this time and this becomes the last bet number to change. The computer will then apply this rule 4 only to bets in between these numbers. Normally it would apply to all bets after a certain time so the computer will prompt you with the last bet number taken. Just accept this by pressing enter and all bets up to the last one (Where the punter has taken a price on horses concerned) will be changed. When you are asked how much the rule 4 is you MUST type in 2 digits i.e. 5p would be "05" and 20p would be "20" of course. After you have finished press on correct to save. Stewards Objection You may mark a stewards enquire or objection with this part, once you have done © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page10 this then any bets that are Official Result for this race will be tagged and when you go to pay out a bet involved in this race then a box will pop up on the screen warning you that there is a Stewards/Objection. You will be prompted to answer Y/N on whether you still wish to payout this bet. If you answer Y (Yes) the you will be allowed to pay out the bet and it will be added to total. If you answer N (No) then it will not be marked as paid and it will not be added to total. THIS ALSO MARKS THE RACE AS HAVING A STEWARDS/OBJECTION AND WILL ALLOW YOU TO SWOP THE RESULT AROUND. THIS MEANS THAT YOU THE NEXT RESULT YOU PUT IN WILL BE THE OFFICIAL RESULT AND THE RESULT YOU PUT IN BEFORE MARKING A STEWARDS WILL BE THE FPP RESULT. YOU WILL BE SHOWN BOTH RESULTS TO CONFIRM (WHEN RESULTS DIFFER e.g. A RESULT HAS BEEN CHANGED AFTER STEWARDS/OBJ IS MARKED) SO THAT YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU HAVE. If you make a mistake, you must CLEAR all, enter the FPP result, then mark STEWARDS again and put in the OFFICIAL result. If there are two differing results then program will ask if you wish to clear BOTH. If you say no then FPP result will be left in. Dead Heat Very similar to marking joint favourites, you will be asked (depending how many runners there are) whether it is a Win, 2nd, 3rd or 4th dead heat. Then you will be asked whether it is 2 horses, 3 horses or 4 horses. All bets will be calculated to the new prices EVEN if the Punter ends up with less money than his stake for a single. (This is under review to allow you to set whether they should just get a non runner) No Favourite Simply removes any favourites marked if you have made a mistake. Tote prices. This was dealt with earlier, but basically allows you to enter Tote Prices for any race, if you have entered a result with no Sp's then you will be asked if it is a tote only race. Any bets taken for that race (if you answer Y (Yes) ) will be calculated to Tote odds, for example races where there is no SP(Arc de Triomphe, American races etc) If you answer N (No) then only bets marked as TOTE (Alt F8) will be settled to these odds) This would be in a shop which takes Tote betting on ordinary races) CLEAR ALL This clears the previously entered result for the race you are in as explained above. ENTERING BETS Most new users approach this with a certain amount of trepidation. There is no need to worry as you can do no damage to the system or the bets. ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO LEARN IS THE LIST OF BETS. These bet names can vary from area to area e.g. a yankee in some areas will be known as 6-4-1 in other areas. A list of the bets is provided with BetSprint and these are the only names which can be used, once you have learned these you are half way to mastering BetSprint. All bets are defined with a 4 LETTER CODE which usually begins with the first four letters of the bet e.g. treble TREB. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE USER UNDERSTANDS THE SYSTEM NEEDS TO KNOW EACH PART OF THE DEFINITION OF THE BET. IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT A SPACE IS USED TO SEPARATE EACH PART OF THE DEFINITION. These parts fall into four categories Example .10 EW YANK .10 EWYANK .10 EWYANK -> Correct Wrong Wrong STAKE ENTRY Stakes are entered as follows if the stake is less than one pound it is entered © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page11 as a decimal of a pound .25 (25p) or .5 (50p) NOTE: Trailing zeros are not necessary .6 than a pound 1.5 (1.50) or 2.5 (2.50) For exact pound units type the following. 2 or .75 (75p) for (60p) is OK. If it is greater (2.00) 5 (5.00) or 27 (27.00) YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PUT DECIMAL POINT! THEN TYPE A SPACE (PRESS THE ) AND ONCE THE STAKE IS DEFINED THE TYPE OF BET WHETHER IT IS EACH WAY OR WHETHER IT IS ALL EACH WAY IT MAY TYPED SEE POINTS BELOW OR WW (Win to Win) .20 RR EW .75 EW L15 5 ALL EW DOUB 5 EW ALL DOUB 5 DOUB ALL EW 5 DOUB WW EW This This This This This This defines defines defines defines defines defines a a a a a a 20p Each Way Round Robin. 75p Each Way Lucky 15 5 pounds Each Way Double 5 pounds Each Way Double 5 pounds Each Way Double Win to Win ew double The main thing to remember is you MUST type the stake first all other parts can be in any order. Once the bet is defined the screen will look like this eg A 20p Each Way round robin is typed as above the screen will then look like this 0.20 RR EW 4.40 ............... ....... ............... ....... ............... ....... THE THREE DOTTED LINES SIGNIFY IT IS WAITING FOR THE ENTRY OF THE THREE HORSES TO MAKE UP THE BET. At this stage you can either enter the three horses OR define another bet such as a one pound Each Way treble. e.g. Type as follows 1 EW TREB 0.20 RR EW 1.00 TREB EW ............... ............... ............... 4.40 2.20 ....... ....... ....... Now two parts are defined for the bet and others may be added until you are ready to enter the horses. HORSE SELECTION Horses can be selected by typing the first two or three letters of the name if a unique match is found e.g. if you type EMS and only one horse is running that day that begins with letters EMS then it will be selected. This example would selected EMSBOY if it were the only horse to begin with these letters. It is not necessary to type three letters. You may type as few or as many as you like. This is something that the individual operator will adjust to suit their own particular typing style. If a unique match is not found eg. LAD is typed and there is more than one horse beginning with the letters LAD the following will be displayed on the upper right hand side of the screen. This is a menu selection box which has a white highlighted bar on the horses name on the top of the box. You can move this bar by pressing the cursor keys (or hitting the will move the selection bar down one position) and then select the horse which the bar rests on by pressing this makes for very quick selection of horses. THIS MAY SEEM A LITTLE CONFUSING AT FIRST BUT WORKS VERY WELL ONCE YOU ARE USED TO IT. REMEMBER TO USE THE SPACE BAR ONLY FOR SELECTION IN A POP UP SELECTION © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page12 BOX. AT ALL OTHER TIMES IT JUST PUTS IN A SPACE. Once the selection bar reaches the bottom selection it will stay on that selection unless you use the to move it back up or the to take it to the top of the box. Other ways of selecting are as follows If the horses name consists of two or more words you may type the first one or more letters of the FIRST word (THEN A SPACE TO LET THE COMPUTER KNOW IT CONSIST OF MORE THAN ONE WORD) then one or more characters for the SECOND word. e.g. Here are three ways of selecting the same horse 1. 2. 3. ALL TH ALL KIN AL MEN All the above would select the horse ALL THE KINGS MEN Selection 1 would select all horses that begin with the letters ALL and have ANY OTHER word that begins with the letters TH Selection 2 would select all horses that begin with the letters ALL and have ANY OTHER word that begins with the letters KIN Selection 3 would select all horses that begin with the letters ALL and have ANY OTHER word that begins with the letters MEN. In this example we have only used one horse e.g. ALL THE KINGS MEN if more than one selection is possible then as before they will be popped in a box with a bar cursor in order to select the one you require. We STRONGLY recommend that operators sit down at the keyboard typing various selections until they understand how this works. An hour or two doing this will save a lot of time at a later stage once they understand this process. Although it may seem complicated at first it really is quite intuitive as the operator becomes used to it and becomes a very fast way of selection. SEARCH KEY When handwriting is difficult to read the search key may be used to help you find the selection you are looking for, this involves examining the handwriting in question and picking out two or three letters which you can read then typing the two or three letters and pressing the search key. As an example the horse used above ALL THE KINGS MEN if you can read the letters "ING" on the bet (as part of KINGS) then pressing the search key will bring up all horses running that day which have the letters "ING" ANYWHERE within the horses name. This is incredibly useful for finding horses from badly handwritten bets or where the customer has misspelt part of the name and the operator is unfamiliar with the horse in question. After all parts of the bet have been defined and all the horses' names are entered: AT THIS POINT THE OPERATOR SHOULD REVIEW THE BET AND COMPARE IT TO THE SLIP COMPARING STAKES, TYPE OF BET AND HORSES SELECTED. Then and only then the bet can be stored which is done using the key Once is pressed the bet is permanently stored to the computers hard disk the bet will then be displayed on the right hand side of the screen and the left hand side ( the edit slip) will be cleared. PLEASE NOTE: THE BET NUMBER WILL BE INCREMENTED BY ONE, READY FOR THE NEXT SLIP. THIS IS WHY IT IS IMPERATIVE TO KEEP THE SLIPS IN STRICT NUMERIC ORDER. This means the operator is not typing in new bet numbers as they would have to © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page13 do if the slips were not in numeric order. It is a good idea to then check that the newly incremented number matches the next slip you are now ready to type in the next bet. This main screen which consists of two betting slips side by side is what the operator will be looking at most of the time. Other screens may be activated directly by a key press. There are two main other screens these are as follows. PAYOUT SCREEN CREDIT ACCOUNT SCREEN If you are part way through entering a bet pressing will take you straight into the payout screen allowing you to enter slip numbers and retrieve associated payouts. Upon completion of the payout sequence, pressing will return you to exactly the same position in the edit bets screen you may now carry on entering the rest of the bet. As described previously when a bet is entered you may press to permanently save it to hard disk. Also if the bet contains several sections then you may continue to enter the remaining sections and will only be pressed when the WHOLE bet is entered. The above bet now consists of three separate sections, all tax paid, with the total of the whole bet showing on the bottom right. All these sections obviously belong to one bet number just as it is represented on the slip. After pressing F10 the bet will be moved over to the right. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------View Accounts When the cursor bar is on this selection press you will then be asked for Credit Client. Clients are selected in much the same way as a horse name is selected, type first few letters, press , and those few clients will be shown in the pick box. If the letters are enough to identify an unique name then this clients name will be inserted in the edit field. If not the selection chosen from the pick box will be inserted into the edit field after pressing . Pressing again will bring up details of the clients account. There are six fields in the clients account as follows: Date - date bet was struck. Betno - ticket number for that bet. Details - brief details of that particular bet. Debit - any debit incurred by that bet e.g. stake. Credit any credit incurred by that bet e.g. stake. Balance - customers balance adjusted to reflect stakes/returns on that bet. Show Balances Pressing on this item gives a brief resume of all outstanding balances showing clients name, balance and date of last transaction. Clients with a zero balance are not shown, clients with an outstanding balance which shows no activity on the account for more than one month are highlighted to facilitate chasing up late payers. Also total balances are shown. Add A Client New clients may be added with this section including details such as name, address, phone number, limit, deposit, default FPP and any tax concession allowed to this particular customer. Also each account may be marked as requiring invoicing (W)eekly, (F)ortnightly or (M)onthly. When accounts are generated at the end of each week this field will be read and the date calculated when the customer was invoiced and the decision to invoice/or not will be taken. Remove A Client © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page14 Once again the user will be presented with an edit box requesting the first few letters of a clients name. Selection process is the same as before and the selected client will be deleted from the data base. Change Details Selection process as before this section allows editing of customers details. One Account Print If a customer calls into the shop to settle his account you can use this section to print out his account whether a printout is due or not. You will be asked to supply the start date for the print range and all transactions from the start date to the previous day will be printed. This DOES NOT include any transactions which have taken place on the day of printing. Paid Cash In If a customer comes to pay off his account selecting this item from the menu will once again ask you to select the customers name, upon selecting the customers name his CURRENT balance will be shown THIS DOES include any bets struck that day ALSO INCLUDES any returns up to and including the last result entered and settled. It is very important to realise that if a customers bet is half way through being processed and he has some returns, this will be included. If the bet then goes on to make more money than was calculated at that time then the difference will be credited to his account. When the balance of the account is shown (or the amount due) the computer is only suggesting that this is what may be paid, it is possible to over-ride this and type whatever the customer wished to pay. In most cases the figure presented will be the figure they wish to pay and simply pressing will accept that figure as payment. Drawn Cash Out All comments which applied to the Paid Cash In apply here with the difference being that the customer is drawing cash from his account opposed to paying it in if the customers balance is below zero then a figure of zero will be shown and you may if you wish type in a figure for the customer to draw. (If you are a particularly benevolent bookie) Insert A Bet Any bet which is not covered by the BetSprint program e.g. an anti-post snooker bet etc. may be typed in manually here after selecting the clients name you will be requested for the docket number, the total stake, details of the bet and any returns due from the bet. If it is an anti-post bet the returns will of course be zero and any returns received from the bet at a later stage can be input by once again inserting a bet with no stake(zero stake) and filling in the amount of the return. As you enter any stake/returns the customers old balance will be shown and the new balance will be shown along side. Once you have reviewed the bet on screen you will be asked if it is correct. (Y/N?) If you select YES (Y) then the bet will be saved permanently otherwise selecting NO (N) will cancel the bet and nothing will be written to disk. Pressing at any time will return you to the menu WITHOUT SAVING. New Date This allows you to choose from a date selection box any previous date and will show all credit bets for that particular date. Look at the date selection box for information on how to use this facility. Print Invoices This selection would generally be chosen each Saturday evening © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page15 and will automatically generate statements as stated previously if a monthly account is due then it would be printed. The same applies to Fortnightly, Weekly etc. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Payouts Section When function key 6 is pressed this takes you into the payout section. A flashing cursor is displayed in a four character field waiting for a bet number to be typed. To speed up the selection of payouts it is NOT necessary to press after typing four digits, when four digits have been entered any matching bets will automatically be displayed. If there are two or more matching numbers (when the till roll has gone full circle) then all matching bets (which have NOT been paid out) will be displayed in a pop up box. It is important to select the correct bet and press , if you do not press then the bet will not be marked as paid out. DO NOT press unless you are sure that the bet you require is not in the pop up window. Please remember that is used to cancel menu selections. IS USED TO ACCEPT MENU SELECTIONS. At the bottom of the payout screen you will see the following message. R = Recall C = Clear F7 = Menu Todays On F10 = View actual bet Pressing the letter 'R' would recall any bet which you have typed in error e.g. If you typed 6896 instead of 6869 and there was a return on 6896 (it had not been paid out) then you need to recall this bet as you have marked it as paid out in error. Pressing 'R' will recall the bet you can now type in the correct number in this case 6869. Pressing the letter 'C' will clear any totals from bets previously paid out and give you a total of zero ready for the next customer who's slips will now be added to give you his individual totals. Pressing will take you back to the main entry screen, this also clears any outstanding totals ready for the next time you come back into the payout section. F7 = Menu Find a payout. This contains a sub menu which allows you to search based on stake, return, date, horses name etc. Return Find a stake on return, after pressing on this selection you will be asked to type in an amount to search for, a pop up selection box will then be displayed of all bets matching this return PLUS OR MINUS 10% this is to cater for customers who may have worked their bet out inaccurately. Stake This will ask you for a figure which corresponds to the total stake of the bet (including tax). All bets matching this stake will be shown in the pop up selection box. Horse You may type up to five letters of a horses name and any bets which have information in the details section of the payout which matches these five letters will be details will be displayed in the pop up selection box. This program takes a little longer so please be patient, as the computer may have to search through two thousand bets plus.(usually up to ten seconds) © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page16 Date This will allow you to view all unpaid tickets for that particular date. These will be popped up in the selection box allowing you to pick the one you require. Master Utilities This allows you to change system configuration for things such as Each Way on 5/6 runners, setting big bet limit etc. Today’s On/Off This will turn on/off the availability of today’s bets, used in the situation where you have a bet number which matches one of today’s bet numbers but the ticket dates back to a month or so previously. Turning today’s off will deny any of today’s bets when numbers are typed in. After you leave the payout section this automatically defaults to today’s On so that you may retrieve today’s payouts speedily. Remember to recall any of today’s bets which you have in-advertently paid out by typing in the older number. Sum days payouts This allows you to take totals of bets paid on previous days. Add New Payouts This section BetSprint. allows you to add new payouts for bets not catered for by Today’s On Today’s On means that if a bet number is typed which contains one of the numbers in use that day this is the bet that will be displayed the one currently held in the computer for that days racing. In the unlikely event of the ticket being an old ticket then you would not want today’s bet of the same number to be shown. Selecting 'Today’s Off' from the menu allows you to select from only bets taken on days previously. F10= View Actual Bet (from payouts) When you have typed in the ticket number you are presented with a short description of the bet selected. If you need to check further details you may press and within a couple of seconds the whole bet will be displayed in a full slip format showing details of winners, place odds, rule - 4 etc. This facility will allow you check any bet up to three months previously (or as long as files are held on disk). Change Sheet to another days slips Pressing on this selection will bring up a selection box as follows Putting the cursor on any other selection other than bet will change the data bases for the files belonging to that particular date. This allows you to check back on any date up to three months previously, and also to check results for that particular day. IT IS IMPORTANT once you have finished looking at any bets or results for that particular date that you then switch back to the current days bets. This is achieved by ESCaping back out to the main menu and then the selection bar will be on the word bet (the first item) pressing at this point will reload TODAYS bets. ON A NETWORKED SYSTEM YOU MUST PUT ALL WORKSTATIONS INTO THE PAYOUTS SECTION TO RELEASE TODAYS FILES SO THE MAIN COMPUTER CAN CHANGE INTO ANOTHER DAYS FILES. YOU CAN NOT LEAVE PAYOUTS UNTIL THE MAIN MACHINE HAS CHANGED BACK INTO TODAY'S BETS AGAIN. © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page17 Enter New runners or add new races In the unlikely event where you may wish to enter a race which is not included on the SIS service (or as supplied by BetSprint) the new races may be entered here. If meetings already exist then just press on the Meeting and Time selection boxes, this simply takes you to the last race entered in to the computer, whether or not it was entered manually or directly from SIS. System maintenance This section is only for use when installed. Position the main menu and press . be supplied to the manager following options by the manager and is used to configure the system bar cursor on the system maintenance option in the the system will then ask for a password which will at installation time. The manager may set the 1. Default tax rate for new bets. This is the amount of tax that will be added to all bets not excluded in the tax free section. 2. Tax rate to deduct from settled bets. This is the amount of tax to deduct from all bets not excluded from the tax free section where tax was not paid on at the time of the bet. 3. Make default first past the post. This is self explanatory, if set all bets will be treated as first past the post or otherwise marked . If not set all bets will be treated as official result unless otherwise marked . Number of tills This can be set up to a maximum of three in shops operating more than one till the till is toggled with either , , which resets the bet number to match that particular till. Set the default amount for big bets This is used to set the break point before bets are placed into the danger section eg. by setting œ50.00 any bets making more than this amount will be posted into the danger section. Tax free concession bets If set, any bets marked for tax free concession when entered will NOT have tax added to them and will NOT have tax deducted from them e.g. tax free When you have set all these options simply press and all these options will be saved permanently. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------Editing Editing a horses name Should you wish to edit an existing horses name then you may do this by selecting the Meeting and Time of race of the horse you wish to edit. The whole race will be displayed for you and you may edit any particular horse in that race. When you are finished editing simply press and you will return to main menu. After pressing on this selection a Meeting name, the time of the first race and whether or not it is a handicap, you may then start entering the runners of that particular race. After typing all selections for first race, on a new line you would then type the time of the next race as below. © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page18 Meeting BANGOR TONIGHTS THE NIGHT GOOD TONIC HALF BROTHER CLARA MOUNTAIN TOM BIR FAARIS CORUSCATE 1.25 Time 12.55 HCAP Upon typing the time of the next race e.g. 1.25, the screen will clear and the cursor will be on the HCAP input field waiting for you to type (Y/N) to say whether it is a handicap or not. After pressing Y or N you may now start entering the horses for this race. If the time that you type is LESS than the previously typed time the system assumes that you require a NEW MEETING and the cursor will be positioned on the Meeting field. You would now type in the name of the next meeting if any. The time is already inserted for you so just press and once again tell the program whether this race is a handicap or not and continue as before. Should be pressed at any time then all runners that have been typed in WILL BE SAVED TO DISK. This is because it is not envisaged that you would be typing in runners that you do not require. If you have typed in a few runners an make a spelling mistake, you may use the cursor keys to go up and edit the error then use the cursor keys to return to your current position. Winners shown Pressing on this selection allows you to select a meeting from a pop up selection box once you have selected the meeting the results for that particular meeting will be shown in a window at the left of the screen as there is not room to show the full meetings results you must use Pg Dn/Pg Up to view the whole meeting. Details shown in this section 1-2-3 non runners, how many runners ran in that race and whether or not it was a handicap race. THIS SECTION IS FOR DISPLAY ONLY AND CANNOT BE EDITED FROM THIS POINT IN THE PROGRAM. Enter H'caps Pressing on this selection pops up a selection box displaying each race for the day with the amount of runners next to it, this selection box is used to toggle whether or not a race is a handicap. CARLISLE 12.45 CARLISLE 1.15 CARLISLE 1.45 CARLISLE 2.15 22 7 13 13 If the cursor bar is on the Carlisle 12.45 and you press the following will be displayed CARLISLE 12.45 Hcap 22 CARLISLE 1.15 7 CARLISLE 1.45 13 CARLISLE 2.15 13 As you can see the Carlisle 12.45 is now marked as a handicap. If you press again it will toggle back to the handicap e.g. as in the first section. The marked handicapped races will normally be done directly from SIS and this section is merely for checking which races are handicaps. After marking all handicaps will returns you to the main Bets screen. After you press all place odds will be re calculated based on whether the race is a handicap or not based on Tattersall rules. If you have changed any race and the result has already been entered then it would be advisable to select Calculate Bets from the Menu on F7 key. This will recalculate every single bet in today’s racing © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page19 thus correcting any Each Way bets which are affected by any changes you may have made. If you do not recalculate all bets the next time the settle key is pressed then all bets will be recalculated ONLY IF YOUR CHANGES AFFECT A PLACE ODDS SETTING. Otherwise only pending bets will be settled e.g. bets affected by the last results entered. Zap/Void Races This section essentially works the same as the Enter Hcap section but instead of tagging a race as a Hcap the race is tagged as a VOID race. CARLISLE 12.45 VOID 22 CARLISLE 1.15 7 CARLISLE 1.45 13 CARLISLE 2.15 13 If a meeting was voided then you would simply tag each race at that meeting. Once all Void races are tagged press to leave you will then be presented with the runners from each void race in turn you will be asked to confirm whether these races require voiding or not. IT IS OBVIOUS YOU SHOULD NOT TAG A RACE AS VOID BY MISTAKE WHICH IS WHY CONFIRMATION IS REQUESTED. List Credits Putting the cursor bar on selection and pressing will list the days credit bets one by one with a ten second delay between each bet pressing a key will speed this up. This is useful for checking the days credit bets before the end of the evening. Pick List (In Full/Reducing) Under normal circumstances as results are entered any horses in races which have already run are not displayed or available from pick list boxes. You may wish to turn on a full pick list in situations where the operator is behind in entering the bets or where you need to search for a particular horse for information only this menu selection is a TOGGLE e.g. the first time you press it will change to the opposite mode if you then select it again it will then change back to the original mode. REMEMBER:: THE PICK LIST IS NORMALLY REDUCING SO THAT YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO EASILY TYPE IN HORSES NAMES AFTER YOU HAVE ENTERED A RESULT. SWITCH TO "PICK LIST IN FULL" IF YOU HAVE TO ENTER BETS FROM RACES EARLIER. Transfer Bets to Pay WARNING! WARNING! WARNING! This section should be run only once AND ONLY ONCE at the end of the day and only from the current days bets. Upon selecting this option you will be presented with a date box. The date presented will almost be without exception the correct date to be assigned to the payouts that will be generated for this days racing. This means that if you were to start transferring Saturdays racing on Monday morning, Saturdays date will be presented as this is the date that bets were taken. (See section on date box) Pressing will select that date pressing again will confirm the date you will then be presented with a list of credit payments and credit drawings for the day. You will also be presented with a list of inserted credit bets (manually inserted), as these are held separately from the days bets. These are for checking purposes only. Answer Y to the question 'Are credit figures correct?' IF THEY ARE CORRECT. Bets will then be totalled and you will be presented with the days figures you will be asked if you wish to write these details Answer Y again and a payout list will then be compiled of outstanding winning bets. This will be displayed for you to look at you can use the Pg Up Pg Dn keys to view the whole list. These bets are in table format so they can be viewed and © Copyright Norman Ellis. BetSprint Application Software. 2010 Page20 checked quite easily. At this stage you may wish to check any bets against what is on the screen to leave this section press and you will be asked if you wish to append to the payouts file. THE PAYOUTS FILE IS A COMPLETELY SEPARATE SECTION AND THE DAYS RACING WILL BE CONDENSED DOWN INTO THE TABLE FORMAT. This is why you must not transfer bets more than once. IT IS POSSIBLE TRANSFER THE PAYOUTS AGAIN IN SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES AS SHOWN BELOW. If for example a Non - Runner had been missed from a previous days racing, you would go to the main menu, select that days racing from the Change Sheets to another day menu selection, mark the non runner, settle the bets and then re-transfer the payouts FOR THE SAME DATE AS THAT DAYS RACING. If you do NOT choose the same date, a new set of payouts would be generated for a different date. IT IS VITAL THAT YOU DO NOT DO THIS AS EACH TIME YOU TYPE IN A PAYOUT NUMBER TWO SELECTIONS WILL BE POPPED UP, ONE FOR EACH DATE, BUT THE BETS WILL BE THE SAME BETS. You must ensure that if you use this facility that you transfer them for the same date for which the racing applies. YOU MUST NOT ZAP THE BETS IF YOU ARE TRANSFERRING THE PAYOUTS FROM ANOTHER DAYS FILES. THIS IS ONLY USED TO ZAP THE CURRENT DAYS RACING AS DEFINED BELOW!! After you have appended the days outstanding winning slips to the payouts file, you will be asked if you wish to Zap the bets. This can only be done once WHEN THE WHOLE DAYS RACING IS FINISHED. You will then be asked to confirm that you are about to Zap the bets and then presented with a date box which will have the date for which these files are to be saved under. That is, the date to which the racing belongs. Once you have confirmed the date an automatic process will be invoked where by all the current files will be zeroed ready for the next days racing. Also all credit accounts will be updated from the current days racing. Do not be alarmed if you see a message box stating 'Purging Payouts' or 'Purging Accounts'. This removes unwanted entries from the account section, only entries before the last two times the customer has paid or drawn will be removed. This means he has already verified his balance twice with you so removing these entries should not present a problem. All entries after the previous settlements will be available. Purged Payouts This will only remove bets which have been paid out, outstanding bets will remain in the computer. At this stage you will reach the print menu. If a printer is connected you may print out the days outstanding payouts, current credit balances and void bets for the day. Also you may print out the days figures. There is a select All option which will printout the payouts, credit balances, voids. These are for back up purposes should anything go wrong with your computer. The payouts and credit balances should be kept in a folder so that if you have a problem with your machine you can go straight to that particular date to retrieve a payout from that particular list. Each payout list has a date heading for easy reference the void printout to put with the days slips so that the Duty Man may refer to it. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A PRINTER PRESS TWICE IN RAPID SUCCESSION TO LEAVE THIS SECTION. also leaves this section if you do have a printer. You will then be return to an empty bets entry screen as there are no bets in current files. If you now press you will be returned to the main menu, again will bring up a prompt 'Quit, Are You Sure?' answering Y to this and you will leave the program. Your days racing is now complete. BetSprint is an extremely powerful tool which can make the running of the betting shop fun, instead of a chore!
