‘Dental Photography Made Easy’ Course Learning Objectives The student should strive to meet the following objectives and demonstrate an understanding of the facts and principles presented in this course: 1. Understand importance of downloading images into a master folder structure on one computer to keep dental images organized for easy retrieval. 2. Understand importance of properly renaming files to make identification and retrieval easy. 3. Understand the basic photographic concepts of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO and how they apply to intra-oral DSLR photography. 4. Understand DSLR camera shooting modes and be able to set the correct shooting mode on their camera. 5. Identify the optimal shutter speed, aperture, and ISO settings for intra-oral photography and understand why these settings are necessary to achieve correctly exposed images on a consistent, predictable basis. • The student will set the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO on their camera that produce properly exposed intra-oral images on a consistent, predictable basis. 6. Understand how DSLR camera metering systems work and the correct metering mode to use for intra-oral images. • The student will set the correct metering mode on their camera that produces properly exposed intra-oral images on a consistent, predictable basis. 7. Understand how DSLR camera focusing systems work and the correct focus mode to use for intra-oral images. • The student will set the focusing mode on their camera that produces in-focus intra-oral images on a consistent, predictable basis. 8. Understand how DSLR camera white balance systems work and the correct white balance mode to use for accurate color in intra-oral images. • The student will make and set a custom white balance on their camera to achieve accurate color in each intra-oral image. 9. Understand DSLR camera flash modes and the correct flash mode to use for intraoral images. • The student will set the flash mode and flash compensation setting that produces properly exposed intra-oral images on a consistent, predictable basis. 10. Understand how and be able to save intra-oral DSLR camera settings to Nikon's 'User Settings' or Canon's 'Custom Shooting Mode C' for instant recall. Understand how and be able to read histograms and be able to use them to check for correct exposure of into-oral images. 12. Understand the concept of depth-of-field to obtain adequate range of focus in intraoral images. 13. Understand where and be able to place the camera’s focus point for precise focus and needed depth-of-field for a given intra-oral view. 14. Understand how and be able to make the AACD ‘Twelve Required Views For Clinical Case Submissions.’ 15.
