Virtual Server Installation Overview A guide to service delivery from Green Cloud Technologies. Data is your company’s most important asset. And migrating that data is one of the most critical aspects of provisioning a new virtual server. Our engineers are here to ensure your data is migrated seamlessly, securely and with the level of support you need. New Virtual Server or Virtual Data Center (VDC) Setup • • • • Green Cloud provisions the new server(s) or VDC based on server specifications provided. Remote access is provided and the partner configures the customer’s new server(s) to their requirements. Partner transfers data sets remotely or sends files to Green Cloud via a removable storage device for direct file transfer. Finally, the partner will work with the customer to access the server(s) using site-to-site VPN or user-level RDP access. Physical-to-Virtual (P2V) Setup Options Green Cloud will import a provided server image or will manage the migration from the customer’s physical server to a virtual server. Option 1: Simple P2V Import. With this option, the partner works directly with the customer to copy the existing physical server image(s)* following these steps: • • • • • After site survey is submitted, Green Cloud ships encrypted USB drive to capture the Virtual Machine Disk (VMDK). Partner downloads, installs and runs VMWare Standalone Converter to create VMDK. Partner ships encrypted USB drive with VMDK back to Green Cloud. Green Cloud creates and activates the server(s) from VMDK and provides remote access credentials to partner. Finally, the customer will work directly with the partner to configure the virtual server(s). Option 2: Managed P2V Migration. With this option, the partner works directly with Green Cloud to migrate the customer’s existing physical server(s)* following these steps: • After site survey is received, Green Cloud will provision and ship the network-attached storage (NAS) device to customer site. Partner or customer will install NAS and connect the encrypted USB seed drive. • Green Cloud will install software remotely and coordinate a server reboot. Green Cloud will setup local backup jobs to the NAS and replicate the backups to the data center. The initial backup is copied to the encrypted USB drive. • Once the initial backup is complete, partner or customer will return the encrypted USB drive to Green Cloud. • Finally, Green Cloud receives seed data and will work with the partner or customer to schedule the data migration. *OS must be supported. Please refer to the Green Cloud Supported Operating Systems document. Managed Virtual-to-Virtual (V2V) Setup • • • • • • Partner will complete and return site survey form and VPN settings document. Green Cloud determines expected rate of change to determine bandwidth requirements. As needed, Green Cloud may provision and ship an encrypted seed NAS to the customer site. If the encrypted seed NAS is needed, partner or customer will install the device on customer’s network. Once Green Cloud receives seed data, the management software installation is scheduled. Finally, Green Cloud will work with the partner or customer to schedule the data migration.
