The Guest account can log into Servers multiple times. All other usernames can log in one at a time. For example, Joe has two systems used as Clients. Joe logs into a Server remotely. At the same time, Mary is at Joe’s other system, and tries to connect to the same Server using Joe’s user profile. Mary gets a message saying the user is already logged on. Mary logs out at the Client and logs in as Guest. She can now connect. If another user wants to log in as Guest, they can. This manual covers all of the features available with Visions Professional 4-Site Client Software. Some of the described features may not apply to the version you have, or be available on the Server system. 01977-001 Rev. A Conventions used in this guide Click or Select = Press and release the Primary mouse button once on an icon or button. Double-Click = Press and release the Primary mouse button twice quickly. Right-Click = Press and release the Secondary mouse button once. Drag or Click and Drag = Press the Primary mouse button and hold it, while moving the mouse. Drag and Drop = Press the Primary mouse button and hold it while moving the mouse, then release the Primary mouse button at the destination point. Keyboard Shortcuts = Press a combination of keys on the keyboard. This can be done one at a time, or all together. If this guide shows a keyboard shortcut, it will appear in one of three ways: CTRL+ESC means press the Control and Escape keys at the same time and release. 1, Enter means press the number one key and release, then press the Enter key and release. ALT-TAB means keep your thumb on the ALT key while you press and release the TAB key. Instruction format Numbered lists contain instructions that should be followed step by step. Double lined boxes contain procedures that do not have to be followed in any particular order. The double lined boxes may also contain descriptions. NOTE This How – To is a reference guide. You do not necessarily have to go through each step of the setup portion. You can set up and run the Client Software simply by entering a Local Site ID and Site Name in General Setup. That is all you need for the software to run. Depending on whether you have the Professional or Basic version of Client Software, some options may not be available. 01977-001 Rev. A Access Rights How to add user profiles You must set up a user profile that is the same as in the Server’s Access Rights Setup. If you do not have a user profile, you may connect using the Guest account. Note that the ‘G’ in Guest is uppercase. Usernames and Passwords are case-sensitive. There is no password for the Guest profile. When the software runs, you must log in before the interface will activate, unless Admin is the only profile set up. The Admin has full rights, and cannot be removed. Groups are not used on Clients. 1. Double-click the Users icon. 2. Click the Add button. 3. Enter the Username and Password. The other fields are optional. The Username and Passwords must be the same as those set up in the Server’s Remote Sites set up. Click Save. Click Close. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 1 General How to enter the Site ID and Site Name 1. Enter a number for the Site ID in the Site Information section. The Site Name can be any combination of letters and numbers. Click the Save button. You must enter a unique Site ID and Site Name. These must be different from the ones set up in the Server’s General set up. Change the download directory 1. Click the Add All Drives button. Select any partitions that you do not want to save files in and click the Delete button. Remove the CD or DVD drive from the list, if applicable. It will always appear with a red icon labeled ‘LOW’. Click the Save button. Page 2 01977-001 Rev. A Communication How to set up a modem in Communication 1. Select Modem in the setup window and click Edit. 2. Click on the check mark next to ‘Disabled’ to clear it. (If you are using RAS, you should leave the modem disabled and need not make any changes here.) 3. Select your modem from the Device Type list. Select the COM Port that your modem is using. Leave the remaining settings alone. Click OK. * If you don’t know what COM port your modem is using, bring up the Start Menu by clicking the Start button or, pressing the Windows á key on your keyboard (or press Ctrl and Esc at the same time). Point to Settings, click on Control Panel. In Win98 & Me, double-click Modems. Select your modem in the box and click properties. You will see the port listed there. Win2K & XP, double-click Phone and Modem Options. Click the modems tab. You will see the port listed there. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 3 How to set up a network connection in Communication When you are making a network connection, and you have an existing Internet connection (Cable Modem or DSL), there is nothing that needs to be changed here, unless you need to change the Port Address or the Data Rate. The Port Address only needs to be changed if there is a firewall between the Server and Client. The Data Rate need only be changed if the Client is on a LAN where the Network Administrator must limit the amount of information that passes across the network. Visions relies on Windows’ networking. Contact your ISP, Network Administrator, or Windows Help to determine if your system is configured for TCP/IP communications. If your ISP has disabled the Ping utility, you can turn it off here. Clear the Ping(ICMP) if you are unable to connect, and cannot ping the Server. Page 4 01977-001 Rev. A How to add a Remote Access Service Connection 1. Click the Add button in the setup window. Click Remote Access Service in the list of Connection Devices. 2. Enter a name for the connection. 3. Select the dial-up connection from the Connection list if it does not already appear. 4. Enter the user name and password for the connection. Click OK. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 5 User Profiles Load a User Profile before making a remote connection 1. Click the Login button. 2. Enter the Username and Password. They are case-sensitive. Click OK, or press Enter on the Keyboard. User Profiles are created by the Admin user in Access Rights set up. If no user profiles have been created, the software will run under the Admin account. The Username and Password entered here must be the same as the ones set up in the Server’s Access Rights set up. Page 6 01977-001 Rev. A Record On Demand How to define the way Record On Demand will record Scroll Buttons. 1. If you are satisfied with the default values, click the Close button. Otherwise, use the scroll buttons to change them. • • • 01977-001 Rev. A Frame Rate – This is the default frame rate that will show when Record On Demand is opened in the Client window. Note that the actual frame rate is dependant upon the connection speed. Max File Length – This determines how the files will be overwritten. When RemoteWatch records, one-hour’s worth of video will be deleted before another one-hour block is recorded. Max File Storage – This will determine when the files will be overwritten. With the default entries, RemoteWatch will begin to overwrite the first file when the tenth file is full. Page 7 How to define where Record On Demand files will be stored 2. If you want to add more drives for Record On Demand files, click the Add All Drives button. (*Auto Adding All Hard Drives is for storing video on removable hard drives. If you are not using removable hard drives, leave the box un-checked.) 3. Click once on an entry to select it. Click the Delete button to remove entries you do not want to store recorded files in. Once you have removed all the entries, click the Save button. Click the Close button. *Auto Adding All Hard Drives is mostly used on PCs that are used as dedicated Clients that store video for archiving. If your PC will not be used in this way, leave Auto Adding All Hard Drives unchecked. Page 8 01977-001 Rev. A User Interface Finding your way around Keri Systems’ Visions Click this button to log in, and load your user profile. User Profiles are for multi-user applications. In a single user environment, loading user profiles is not necessary. The system will automatically load the Admin user profile, if no other user profiles have been set up. You still must click this button, and enter the Admin password to activate the interface, to play video files, or review notification files. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 9 Remote Connections How to manually dial a Server 1. Click the manual dial button. Each panel has a close button like this one. 2. Enter the IP Address or phone number. Enter a valid user name and password. User profiles are created at the Server’s Access Rights setup. Page 10 01977-001 Rev. A How to make an entry in the Phone Book to Quick Dial Only the Site ID, Site Name, and connection number are required on the Site Information panel. Entering information into the other input fields is optional. 1. Click the Phone Book button. Click the Add button at the bottom of the Site Information panel. 2. Enter the Username and Password to use for this connection. 3. Type the Site ID into the Site ID input field. Type the Site Name into the Site Name input field. 4. Enter the IP Address, Phone number, or RAS connection. Click the Save button. *Note: Users can create remote connection entries, but cannot edit the entries once they’ve been added. Only the Admin account can edit or remove phone book entries. After you’ve made the entry into the Phone Book, simply select the site and click Dial. Dial is the top button on the Dial / Voice Panel. If you are on a network, and IT Department will not open a port for you, ask for one that you can use, and add it as shown in the IP Address field here. If you are not behind a firewall, leave out the p=xxxx Network Connection Re-Acquisition Visions can be configured to re-acquire the connection by formatting the IP address in the following way: Precede the IP address with RID: 60: in the Phone Book such as: Instead of IP #: 205.253.250.38 (normal), you type in IP#: RID:60: 205.253.250.38 By entering RID: 60: before the IP address, RemoteWatch will wait 60 seconds before it determines the connection is dead and redials it. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 11 Viewing Cameras Camera Button 1. Click the Camera button to open the Camera Panel. 2. Click on a video frame, and then click one of the buttons on the camera panel to make the named camera appear in the selected frame. Zoom Click the camera layout buttons to arrange how the cameras appear in the video window. Full Screen Use these buttons to change the picture quality. Lower quality pictures will transfer faster than those at higher quality. While viewing live video, you can right-click in Single View to enlarge the image. Click the Single View button to restore it to its original size. Page 12 01977-001 Rev. A Playback Video How to Use Simple Playback 1. Click the Playback button to open the Simple Playback Window. Use Simple Playback for quick access to Motion Detection, Continuous, and Event Recording files. How the remote IVR is recording determines which of the three types of recorded files you will see in Simple Playback. All systems come with these standard recording types, but only one can be seen in Simple Playback, because only one of these types of recordings can be chosen in Setup under Utilities, Playback Option. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 13 When you open the Playback window, you have controls that are used to play, pause, move frame-by-frame (while the video is paused), move to the start, and move to the end of the video segment. The most recently recorded video is shown first. You can use the Go To button to bring up a window that can be used to select which camera, which time of day, and which date you want to view in a 24 hour period. You can use the Calendars in the lower right corner of the screen to select a day to load in the Timeline. The Bars in the Timelines are color coded and represent the different recording types supported by Simple Playback. • Black bars are Continuous Record files. • Green bars are Event Record files. • Blue bars are Motion Detection files. When the Simple Playback window opens, it will open the most recent video recorded. You can click on the ‘Goto’ button, and open a window to select the date, time, and camera for video to play. Please note the ‘Goto’ button will only work when the video is shown minutes, not seconds. Each box has an arrow next to it. Click on the arrow to expand the box into a list that you can choose from. The Time box has arrows that will scroll the time up or down. You must click on one of the three time values (Hour, Minute, Second), to make it scroll. After that, select a Camera, and then click OK. You can also use the Calendar. Days that are highlighted have video recorded. They will give you 24 hours of video that was recorded that day. You may find it easier to use the Goto panel to jump to a specific Date, Time, and Camera, rather than slide the bars in the timeline using the mouse. Page 14 01977-001 Rev. A After you have selected some video, use these buttons to play it: Pause, Reverse Go To Start, Frame by Frame Reverse Play, Stop Frame by Frame Forward, Go To End The Timeline shows video in a length of 24 hours. You can use the Slider or Play head to move to frames either by the minute, or the second.Use this slider to move to different times, either in minutes, or period seconds. You can click on the playline, and drag it to any time you want. The red bar represents recorded video. 01977-001 Rev. A The button labeled Minute or Seconds does not reflect the current state of the Timeline. If it shows Minute, click it to see the Timeline in Seconds, if it displays Seconds, click on it to see the Timeline in Minutes. This bar represents where video is present on the timeline. The number of cameras in the video file, and the type of recording determine how much video is in the Timeline within a 24-hour period. Page 15 How to View Video in Simple Playback If you are viewing a single camera, a double left or right mouse click on the video will change the camera frame size from small, medium to large. A fourth double-click will return to normal view. Following is what each button does: • • • • • • • • • Single will change the view back to a single camera from any multiple view. The camera it changes to will be the selected camera in whichever multi-view the playback window was in. A selected camera will have a bright blue title bar. Multiple will change the view from 2x2 (4 cameras), 3x3 (9 cameras), and 4x4 (16 cameras). Pano (as in Panorama) will multiply one camera in the playback window. It is a toggle button. That is, when you click it the first time it will switch to a 2x2 view. Click it again, and it will switch to a 3x3 view. The 3rd time you click it, the camera will appear in 4x4 view. Full Screen will hide the user interface, and enlarge the image to fill the screen. To exit from Full Screen Mode, click on the ‘X’ in the upper left corner of the Full Screen window. Advanced will take you to the Playback Search Engine, where you can search for any type of recorded video, including Cash Register and ATM transactions. ATM and Cash Register have their own separate manuals and are not covered here. Update click this button to refresh the video screen, after viewing video in Simple Playback while recording. For example, if you have been watching video since 9:00 A.M., and it is now 9:30 A.M., click Update to include the video that was recorded between 9:00 and 9:30. Print click this button to print the frame that is selected on the screen. The video must be stopped on a frame for this button to work. See Advanced Playback to see how to print. Save click this button to save video to CD, or your local drive. The file is already named with the date and camera name, you only need to choose if you want to save it in AVI format, so that any PC can view the video with Windows Media Player. If you choose to save the video in ADB format, RemoteWatch Client Software, RemoteWatch Playback Software, or even RemoteWatch Portable Edition can read and play these video formats. The advantage to ADB is that the video is stored in an encrypted database, and cannot be tampered with. Source click this button to select the Server that you have downloaded video from. Page 16 01977-001 Rev. A How to Save Video to Disk in Simple Playback Click the Save button. Enter a name in the File Name field. If you want to put the date in, use dashes or underscores to separate the numbers. Slashes are illegal characters in Windows and will not be accepted. Click Save. How to open Saved Video in Simple Playback Click the Source button. Click on Search Specific File. Click the Browse button. Click on a Site in the list to view the video from that site, if you downloaded from multiple Servers. Click Search Specific File and browse to the location where you may have saved a video file to play it. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 17 Select the file saved, then click Open. Click the OK button on the bottom of the Source dialog box. Page 18 01977-001 Rev. A How to Save Video to CD in Simple Playback Click the Save button and a window will open where you can specify the CD drive. You can choose to save as AVI, which can be viewed on any PC with Windows Media Player. You can choose to save as ADB to protect the video from being tampered with, but must be viewed with Visions software. You can change the name of the video file if you want. If you save as AVI, you can select the frame rate the video will play at later in Windows Media Player. If you save as ADB, you don’t have to set the frame rate. The supported programs that can play it can set the frame rate when it plays later. There is also the advantage of an encrypted file that cannot be tampered with. If it is tampered with, it will not play. If you want to save a file to local disk, you can do so in the main program, using the button labeled ‘CD Backup’; then you can save it to the hard drive. If you want to copy only a section of video, go to Advanced Playback. See Advanced Playback for more information on the Print function. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 19 How to view video using Advanced Playback 1. Click on the box next to By Date/Time. You can select from a list of 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24 hours to search. Click on any of the white boxes to select a specific camera(s), or a specific recording type. 2. Click the Calendars button. Calendars 3. Enter ‘From’ and ‘To’ date and time to search. 4. Click OK to begin the search. Use the scroll buttons to change the month and year, or you can overtype the numbers. Click on the numbers to select the day(s) to search through. Use these scroll buttons to select the time, or type directly in the box. Note that the time is in 24-hour format, an internationally accepted format. Page 20 01977-001 Rev. A How to Search for Video Motion Files 1. Click Video Motion Detection. Click Smart Search. 2. Click a camera in the list. You can search for all Video Motion files on all cameras, by leaving Smart Search unchecked, and then click the Search button. 3. Click one or more quadrants with motion you want to find. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 21 How to Retrieve Files from a CD 1. Click the Searching Path check box. Click the Browse button. 2. Click on the drop down list to select your CD drive. Click the Directory button. (You may also click a file name in the right pane and click the File button. That will search for video in that file only, not the entire disk.) Click the Search button in the Playback Search Engine window. 4. Click Search. Page 22 01977-001 Rev. A How to View Recorded Files Another way to view files is to click and drag a camera into the Playback Window. 1. Click the plus sign next to the recording type. Click on a camera. Double-click to open all recording types for that camera. 2. Right-click on up to four video files. With the left mouse button, drag the cursor into the Playback window. You can also click and drag individual files into the Playback Window, or just double-click them. Click this button to return to the Playback Search Engine. Click this button to continue the search with the same criteria. It will become enabled if all files have not been returned by the search. Click this button to play all open video files at the same time. Click this button to close all open video files at the same time. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 23 3. Click the Play button. With the toolbar buttons on the playback frame you can, from left to right: • Go to the first frame. • Rewind the video. • Move forward. • Go to the last frame. • Play the video. • Jump to the previous clip. • Jump to the next clip. • Copy to Disk. • Print a video frame or save a bitmap. • Watch the video in full frame view. • View Pre-Event video. • View Post-Event video. • View Transaction data from a cash register or ATM machine • See information about the video file e.g. frame count, record date, duration of the video file, etc. • Adjust the playback speed, navigate to a specific frame, repeat the video, and enable audio playback. Page 24 01977-001 Rev. A Control Video Playback Drag these sliders to restrict the playback range or frame rate. Drag this slider to go to another frame or double-click on it to type in a frame number. Click the Controls button to open this panel. Click the here to switch to another camera or select all cameras. Click the white box to loop the video. While the video is paused, use these buttons to move frame by frame. How to Print a Frame, or Save a Frame in Another Image Format 1. Click the Print button on the Playback frame toolbar. 2. Click Print. 01977-001 Rev. A Click the Save As button on the Print dialog. Type a name for the picture in the Save As dialog. Select an image format. Bitmap, Jpeg, Tiff, or Tga. You do not have to enter the file extension in the File Name field. Click Save. Page 25 Image Enhancement Click the print button on the Playback toolbar. Click the Image Enhance button on the Print dialog box. Use the scroll bars to adjust the Brightness and Contrast of the Image. It is usually best to adjust the Brightness first. You can drag the slider to see the changes. If you need to adjust the Contrast, use the small arrows at either end of the bar. If the image appears grainy, click the ‘Remove Noise’ button. Click Apply to commit the changes. You can also resize the image using digital zoom, by placing the mouse pointer near any corner of the picture. When it turns into a double arrow, hold the mouse button down, and drag it to the size you want the picture to be. Page 26 01977-001 Rev. A Download & Copy Files How to Download Files While Connected to a Server 1. Click the Copy to Disk button on the playback frame. 2. Click the OK button. Click and drag the slider handles to copy a portion of the video file. Download Recording Images with: These options will become enabled if the video file contains the associated files. Clicking on one or more of the white boxes will place a check in it and the files will be copied with the video. Original Format: The video will retain the encryption and can only be viewed with Visions Client Software or RWX Playback. Convert to AVI Format: When this option is selected, the video can be played with Windows Media Player, or other compatible AVI player. Please note that if this option is selected, the video has no protection and can be altered. It can then be challenged in court. If you will be using the video for criminal prosecution, it is recommended you use the original format option. CD Writer Drive: If the RemoteWatch IVR has a CDRW drive, this option will be enabled. Click on the white box to place a check in it. Enter a file name in the Save File As box and Click OK. This will write the video to a CD. If the disk is a re-writeable CD, you can select the Erase CD option if the disk gets full. Save File as: This is not available while connected to a Server, unless you select Convert to AVI. If you do convert the video, enter or browse for a valid path to store the video. If it is kept in the original format, the video will be downloaded to ‘C:\Recording\DownLoad’ unless it has been changed in Setup under General. This is so the Search Engine can find it, if you later narrow your search by Camera Name, Recording Type, etc. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 27 How to Copy a File to CD Offline Copying to CD is very easy. Simply click the Write to CD box. Enter a filename in the Save File As box, then click OK. How to Copy a File to Hard Disk Offline Click the Save to File button. Select any available options as previously described. When you click OK, the Download Options explorer will open. 1. Click the drop-down arrow to select a drive. 2. Double-click on the icons in the folder list to select a place to save the video. The My Documents folder is a good place to save it. 3. Enter a name for the file. Click OK. Note that the path and file name should appear here. Avoid using # for the camera number in the file name. Slashes and the pound sign are illegal file name characters in Windows. Use only letters, numbers, and spaces. If you want to put the date in the name, use dashes to separate the numbers. 4. Click OK again. Page 28 01977-001 Rev. A CD Backup You can use this to copy video files and convert them to AVI after you’ve searched for and saved them. This is a shortcut so you don’t have to go into playback and do a search when you know where the file is. You can also search from here for all *.adb video files. (adb is the Visions video file extension.) 1. Click on the drive letter to select the drive containing the video file you saved. 2. Double-click on folders to open them, or close them, to navigate to the location where the video file will appear in the pane on the right. 3. Click on the file, and then click on the right arrow button to add it to the Target list. You can also opt to click on the AVI button to convert the file, or save it on another location on the hard drive, by clicking the drive button below the CD button. Click OK to copy the file(s). Routine Backups To perform routine backups, click the File Searching button. 1. If you use Record On Demand and record to drives other than ‘C:’ In the Searching Path box, overtype the drive letter to the one you would like to search in, i.e. D, or E. Click Search. 2. Select a file in the list and click the arrow button to add the file to the Target list. You can also choose to convert the file to AVI, or save it in another location on the hard disk. A Notify Viewing Notify Files When a Server has been set up to notify a Client, the Notify Panel will pop up and sound an alarm. By default, the Server will automatically disconnect from the Client after 30 seconds. Hit the pause button to suspend the ‘Kiss Off’. You can also add a note, turn the sound off, open the Trigger Info window and hang up using the buttons on the Notify Panel. View Log File button. Click the View Log Files button. Enter a name for the log file, then click the Save button. You can later search for that file by clicking the Searching Path check box at the top of the window, next to the large Search button. The Open File window will open. Click the File Button. Then, when you click the large Search button, the Activity Log will search for activity in that file only. Try checking the following items if you are not able to establish a remote connection: • The Local Site ID and Site Names for the Client and Server must be different. • Verify whether or not User Profiles have been created in the Server’s setup. • If a password used, make sure the correct case is being used. The most common cause for an invalid password message is having Caps Lock enabled on the keyboard. • By default, the Server and Client must be able to ping each other. Verify if this has been disabled by a firewall. If so, clear the Ping(ICMP) box in set up, under Communication, Network. • If you get an error that says :’Add new Site error 3022’, that means the Client’s Site ID is the same as the Server’s Site ID. They must be different. Modem • • • • • • Make sure the modem is enabled in setup. It is disabled by default for RAS. Also make sure that the correct COM port is selected. Try using AT&F as the modem init string on both the Server and Client. Some internal modems on laptop computers use system resources to maintain the connection. RemoteWatch also uses the same resources to process the video. Sometimes, an external modem is needed with laptop computers because of this. Try calling the Server with a phone. If it just rings or you get a busy signal, have someone check the Server to make sure no one exited it. See if someone else may be connected to it. Avoid using lines that are shared with fax machines or a PBX network, if possible. If a Server is using alarms, very frequent triggers may cause the system to give priority to recording and not send video. This is most often a wiring problem at the Server. 01977-001 Rev. A Page 37 Network • • • • If you are using a broadband connection, you may have to enter a default Gateway to your network properties. If you wan to connect to the Server’s computer name instead of the IP address, you will need DNS numbers in your Network Properties. Contact your ISP for this information. Most providers have this information on their web sites in the support section. If you call your ISP, ask for DNS and Gateway number, where to enter it, and they will assist you. Try to ‘ping’ the Server to verify that Windows’ network components are configured correctly and that a physical connection exists between the Server and Client. Many ISPs will disable this tool, so verify whether or not it has if you get no reply. Go to a command prompt (Win 9x, ME: Click Start, click Run, type “command’ in the Open box. Win NT, 2K,XP: Click Start, click Run, type “cmd” in the Open box.) Type the word: ping. Press the space bar on the keyboard. Type the IP address of the Server, press Enter. If you get a message stating that the destination host is unreachable, have an experienced network technician check the physical connections and Windows’ Network configuration or contact your ISP for assistance. If neither is available, Windows Help can be a good reference. Verify that the Network entry in Communication setup is set to the correct device type. It should say Network in the Communication setup window and [Direct Connect] in the Network properties window. Also verify that Incoming Connections is set to Maximum, or a number between 1 and 255. If you are configuring a firewall, you must allow v4Cserver.exe located in ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\RWM Utilities’ to send and receive ICMP packets. Some UDP packets are sent back and forth by RemoteWatch. If you are using a software firewall, such as Black Ice or Zone Alarm, allow RemoteWatch to use any port. There is no security risk by allowing this. Peer to Peer (Server to Client with an Ethernet cable) • Use an Ethernet cross-over cable to connect a Server and Client directly to their network cards • A straight through cable (also known as an Ethernet Patch Cable,) must be used when making a connection through a hub. • Only a static IP address and Subnet Mask are needed in Windows’ Network TCP/IP properties. The first 3 octets of the IP address for both Tx and Rx must be the same but the 4th one must be different. The Subnet Mask on both must be the same. A Troubleshooting Video If you can establish a connection, or are trying to playback, and do not see any video, check the following: • Display settings must be set to 1024x768 or higher screen resolution, 16-bit or higher color depth. • If you are playing back a file and do not see any video and the toolbar buttons do not appear, change your font settings to small fonts. You can find this setting in: Control Panel, Display, Settings tab, Advanced button, General tab. In the unlikely event this setting is at small fonts and the condition persists, the Windows default font file may be corrupted. • If you are unable to find a particular file remotely, try looking for the video file in Windows Explorer at the Server. Look in the video directories (Set your Windows Explorer view to Details, (This can be done by clicking View, then click Details on the Windows Explorer menu bar.) and sort the files by modified date. Once you locate a file in the date range you are looking for, go to Playback in RemoteWatch and click Searching Path on the Playback Search Engine. Browse to the directory, select the file, and then click the File button. Click the Search button. • Version 4 or lower Client software is not fully compatible with version 5 Servers. Version 5 Client software is backward compatible, so you can update your Clients and still connect to, and view, your legacy Servers. A GLOSSARY ALARM An input device that has completed or broken an electrical circuit. CDRW Acronym for Compact Disk Read Write. There are two main types of disks for CDRW drives, CD-R and CD-RW. CD-R disks can only be written to once. CD-RW disks can be written to, erased and written to again and again. CODEC COmpress DECompress. Digital video must be compressed in order to store it and/or transmit it to you. Your computer then decompresses it so you can view it. The faster your computer is, the faster the video will update on your system. Windows and programs install CODECs on your PC. INPUT Any device connected to RemoteWatch that is capable of completing or breaking an electrical circuit (pressure sensors, motion detectors, panic buttons, door and window contacts, etc.) IP ADDRESS An identifier for a computer or device on a TCP/IP network. Networks using the TCP/IP protocol route messages based on the IP address of the destination. The format of an IP address is a 32-bit numeric address written as four numbers separated by periods. Each number can be zero to 255. For example, 125.160.10.240 could be an IP address. ISP Acronym for Internet Service Provider. LAN Local Area Network. A network where computers are connected to each other in the same building. MODEM A modem converts one form of communication signal into another and transmits it to a similar device at the other end of a telephone line. Conversion from the digital signals of computers to the analog signals of telephones is called modulation, while the reverse process is called demodulation. 01977-001 Rev. A Any device connected to RemoteWatch that can be activated by completing or breaking an electrical circuit (bells, lights, sirens, loudspeakers, etc.) OUTPUT A “virtual slot” in your TCP and UDP stack that is used to map a connection between two hosts (computers), and also between the TCP/UDP layer and the actual applications (programs) running on the hosts. PORT ADDRESS This is video that was recording on a continuous basis before (Pre-Event) an input triggered Event Recording. Since it is continuous, there is video available after the Event (Post-Event) has concluded. PRE-EVENT AND POSTEVENT A PC without any special hardware running the RemoteWatch Client Software. The Client can connect to a Server via whatever connection hardware is installed, be it Network Interface Card or Modem. The Client uses software video decompression thus the more powerful the computer is, the better the video quality will be. CLIENT A unique number that is used by Clients and Servers to distinguish each other. The same Site ID cannot be used by both the Server and Client. SITE ID Abbreviation for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, the suite of communications protocols used to connect hosts on the Internet. TCP/IP A PC with an Visions Video Capture Card installed. The cameras are attached to it and will transmit the images when a Client connects. When an input device (such as a motion sensor or door switch) is activated, it is tripped or triggered. In RemoteWatch, tripping or triggering an input device will usually result in another activity, such as switching to a particular camera, sounding an alarm or placing a call to the Client unit. Wide Area Network. A network where the computers are connected to each other but are not in the same location. The Internet is the largest WAN in the world.
