Notes: - The Digital Camera comes with 16MB flash memory, therefore all images saved on the internal memory will remain on the camera even if you remove the batteries. - Remove the batteries before storing the digital camera for an extended period of time. - Do not use different brands or different types of batteries together. - Do not use new and used batteries together. - Power off the camera before replacing batteries. Open the battery compartment cover located on the side of the camera. 2. Note the battery polarities +/- inside the battery compartment door, and insert two (2) new AA alkaline or Ni-MH batteries. 3. Close the battery compartment cover by clicking it shut. How to Insert a SD Memory Card 1. Open the battery compartment cover located on the side of the camera. 2. Slide the SD card into the SD slot according to the arrow direction on the card and push down gently until the card secures in the slot. Note: the label should face towards the batteries. 3. Close the battery compartment cover by clicking it shut. 4. To remove the memory card, push down on the SD card with the thumb. The card should eject, pull out the card with the fingers. Note: (1) The SD card may be “locked” (write-protected). This means that the SD card is READ-ONLY, and will not store files. When the SD card is inserted properly, the camera will automatically detect if the SD card is locked or unlocked. It will display a “locked” icon on the LCD. If the SD card is locked, remove the SD card from the camera, locate the tiny switch on the side of the SD card and switch it to unlock position before inserting it back in the camera. (It is best to consult the SD card manual as the SD card may vary depending on the brand). (2) When the SD card is locked, the image capture mode and video capture mode will be disable. How to Copy MP3 Files to the SD Card 1. Highlight the MP3 music files on the computer, right-click the mouse, and select “Copy” from the shortcut menu. 2. Go to “My Computer” ˆ “Removable Disk E:\” (where E:\ is the SD card), right-click the mouse, and select “Paste” from the shortcut menu. 3. Use the following charts to identify the camera icons and their functions. Power ON the camera by sliding the lens cover to the left. The LCD screen will display a splash screen followed by the still image capture preview screen. 2. Press the MODE button to enter the Setup mode. The Setup Menu is shown below: 3. Press the▲/▼buttons to select the item and press the OK button. Setup Menu Features & Usage Language This feature allows you select the language you want. The following are the language options: • English • French • Spanish • Italian • German • T. Chinese Use the▲/▼buttons to toggle to your desired language and then press the OK button. Sound This feature allows the camera to give a beep during normal operation. (e.g. taking a picture, deleting a file, etc). • ON • OFF Use the▲/▼buttons to select ON or OFF and press the OK button. 9 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine TV-Output This feature allows you to playback pictures and videos on a TV screen: • NTSC – US/Canada • PAL – Europe/Asia • Exit Use the▲/▼buttons to select the TV output setting according to your region and then press the OK button. Auto OFF This feature allows the camera to automatically power off after a period of inactivity. • 30 sec. • 60 sec. • 120 sec. • OFF Use the▲/▼buttons to select the time that the camera is inactive before it automatically powers off and press the OK button. Format This feature allows you to format the internal memory or the SD memory card. • YES • NO Use the▲/▼buttons to select YES or NO and then press the OK button. Note: to format the internal memory, remove the SD card first. Note: DO NOT format an SD card using the computer. This operation will render the card unreadable to the camera. Frequency This feature allows you to select the correct light frequency when taking a picture or video. • OFF • 50 Hz (Europe/China) • 60 Hz (US/Canada/Taiwan) Use the▲/▼buttons to select the correct light frequency according to your region and press the OK button. 10 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Settings This feature allows you to either save your current setting or return to the default setting. • Current • Default • Exit Use the▲/▼buttons to select your setting and press the OK button and turn off the camera. Note: The default setting resumes after the batteries are changed. How to Capture Digital Still Image 1. Power ON the camera by sliding the lens cover open. 2. The camera’s default mode is the Still Capture preview screen; otherwise, press the MODE button to toggle to the Still Capture mode (shown below) 3. Frame the subject through the LCD or the optical viewfinder, hold the camera steady or set it on a tripod. 4. Press the Shutter button to take a picture. The camera will beep once to confirm that a picture has been taken. Note: The camera will only beep if it is set to “Sound ON” in Settings option. The camera’s ▼ button serves as the display option button so that the LCD icons will be removed (displaying only the preview screen) during Still Image Capture mode or Video Capture mode. To turn off the camera icons while taking a picture or a video, press and hold down the ▼button, and the icons will disappear. To bring back the icons on the LCD screen, press the ▼button again. Note: The camera cannot be in zoom status while pressing the ▼button to turn off the icons. Exit the zoom function first and then press the ▼button . 11 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Still Image Capture Options The Still Capture Menu provides the following menu options for advanced photo shooting: Resolution, Flash ON/OFF, Self-Timer, White Balance, and Exposure Value Adjustment. From the Still Capture mode, press the MENU button to bring up the Still Capture Menu (shown below) Still Image Capture Menu Items Resolution This feature allows you choose a high or a low resolution when taking still images • 6M * • High (default) • Normal • Low * 6MP through firmware interpolation Use the▲/▼buttons to select the resolution setting and press the OK button. Flash This feature let’s you take pictures where there is insufficient lighting. • Auto • ON – flash will fire regardless of the lighting condition • OFF – flash will not fire regardless of the lighting condition Use the▲/▼buttons to select your choice and press the OK button. Note: The flash will not function when battery power is low. 12 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Self-timer This feature lets you take a picture remotely. • ON • OFF Use the▲/▼buttons to select your choice and press the OK button. W. Balance This feature lets you set the white balance according to the lighting condition when taking a picture. • Auto • Sunny • Cloudy • Fluorescent • Tungsten • Night Use the▲/▼buttons to select the white balance and press the OK button. EV Adjust This feature lets you set the exposure value when taking a picture. The default is set at EV 0. Use the ▲/▼buttons to increase / decrease the EV number by an incremental value of +/-0.3. Press the OK button to confirm. Exit This option will exit the Still Capture Menu and back to the Capture preview screen. 13 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine How to Capture Digital Video The Digital Camera captures digital videos with sound at 10 frames per second. Follow the instructions below to record digital video. 1. Power ON the camera by sliding the camera lens-cover to the left. 2. Press the MENU button to toggle to Video Capture mode (shown below). 3. Press the OK button to bring up the Video Capture Menu (shown below). 4. Use the▲/▼buttons to select “Audio ON” or “Audio OFF” with your video and press the OK button. 5. Frame the subject with the LCD screen or the optical viewfinder. 6. Hold the camera steady and press the Shutter button to start recording a video. 7. To stop recording, press the Shutter button again. Note: Do not hold down the Shutter button while recording a video. How to Record Audio The Digital Camera records voice annotation for up to 17 minutes with the internal memory. Follow the instructions below to record an audio file. 1. Power ON the camera by sliding the lens cover to the left. 2. Press the MODE button to toggle to Video Capture mode. 14 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine 3. Press the MENU button to bring up the Video Capture Menu. 4. Use the▲/▼buttons to select “Audio Only” and press the OK button. 5. The camera LCD will display a blank screen with the audio icon and stop icon on the upper left corner, and the time counter on the lower right corner. 6. Press the Shutter button once to begin recording and speak clearly into the microphone located on the front of the camera. 7. The time counter will begin to count down in minutes and seconds. 8. To stop recording, press the Shutter button again. Note: Do not hold down the Shutter button while recording audio. How to Playback Image/Video on the LCD The Digital Camera can playback the photos and videos on the color LCD display. Follow the instructions below: 1. Power ON the camera by sliding the lens cover to the left. 2. Press the MODE button to toggle to Playback mode (shown below). 15 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine 3. The LCD will display the last image or video that was saved on the internal memory or the memory card. Note: Using a memory card will disable the internal memory. To playback the images/videos stored on the internal memory, remove the memory card first. 4. Press the▲/▼buttons to toggle through the images/videos. Playback Options The Digital Camera provides these viewing options: thumbnails and slideshows. Press the MENU button to bring up the Playback Menu (shown below). Playback Menu 4 Thumbnails This feature allows you to view four images at a time. Use the▲/▼buttons to select “4 Thumbnail”, and then press the OK button. 16 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine 9 Thumbnails This feature allows you to view nine images at a time. Use the▲/▼buttons to select “9 Thumbnail”, and then press the OK button. Slideshow This feature allows you to watch a slideshow on the camera. Use the▲/▼buttons to select “Slideshow”, and then press the OK button. The slideshow will begin to play in chronicle order of the images taken. To stop the slideshow at anytime, press the OK button again. Delete One This feature allows you to delete an image, video, or audio file from memory. Toggle to the image, video, or audio file that you want to delete, and press the MENU button to access the Playback Menu. Use the▲/▼buttons to select “Delete One”, and then press the OK button. The camera will for confirmation, select “YES” to delete the current file, or “NO” to exit delete mode, and then press the OK button. 17 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Delete ALL This feature allows you to delete ALL of the files saved on the memory. Press the MENU button to access the Playback Menu. Use the▲/▼buttons to select “Delete ALL”, and then press the OK button. The camera will ask for confirmation, select “YES” to delete ALL of the files, or “NO” to exit delete mode, and then press the OK button. Display This feature allows you to clear the LCD screen of icon displays so that only the image is showing on the LCD. To view the images without camera icons, press the MENU button to access the Playback Menu. Use the▲/▼buttons to select “Display”, and then press the OK button. The camera will ask you to confirm, select “ON” to view the photos with camera icons, or “OFF” to view the pictures without the camera icons. Exit This feature allows you to exit the Playback Menu. 18 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine How to Playback Image/Video on a TV The Digital Camera has a TV-out feature to watch digital pictures and videos on a TV screen. 1. Connect the AV cable (optional) to the camera and TV set. Refer to the “Making Connections” section on page 25. 2. Power ON the camera by sliding the lens cover to the left. 3. Press the MODE button to toggle to Setup mode. 4. Use the▲/▼buttons to select TV-Output and press OK button. 5. Select “NTSC” or “PAL” according to your region and press the OK button. 6. The pictures and videos will playback on the TV screen starting with the last image or video. 19 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine How to Listen to MP3 Music The Digital Camera has a built-in MP3 player. Note: (1) The MP3 function only supports the file format within the 44.1Hz frequency range. This is the typical frequency of most walkman players. (2) The MP3 file name must be in English.The other language file name can be read also but no guarantee. 1. Insert a SD card with MP3 music stored on it. Refer to How to Copy MP3 Music to SD Card on page 5. 2. Plug in the supplied earphones to the earphone jack located on the side of the camera. 3. Power ON the camera by sliding the lens cover open. 4. Press the MODE button to toggle to MP3 Player mode. 5. The LCD will display a black screen with the music, play/stop, and play loop icons on the upper left corner. The time counter will display in the center, and the number of song in the lower corner of the LCD. 6. Use the▲/▼buttons to toggle through the songs, and then press and hold down the Shutter button for two (2) seconds to start playing. 7. When the MP3 music is playing, press the + / - buttons to increase / decrease the sound volume. 8. To stop the music, press and hold down the Shutter button for two (2) seconds again. Note: (1) The internal memory can store MP3 files. However, the memory space is limited to 16MB and any photos, videos, or audio files stored on the internal memory will take up the space. Refer to “How to Download MP3 Music to the Camera” on page 27. (2) The camera support MPEG 1 audio layer 3 only. ( 64K – 320Kbps). Also included are Ulead PhotoExpress software. These programs provide powerful and user-friendly tools to edit, enhance, and organize the digital pictures and videos. Digital Camera Driver • Mass storage function - provides easy and fast downloads • Web-cam function • Installs Owner’s Manual automatically on the computer Ulead Photo Express 4.0 SE • Provides easy-to-use and powerful tools for photo editing and image enhancing • Includes templates to create calendars and greeting cards • Features step-by-step instructions to create exciting panoramas Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.05 • Open and review the manual in PDF How to Install the Digital Camera Driver and software Camera Driver: Windows 2000/ME/XP operating systems support mass storage; therefore, it is not required to install the driver to download images, videos, or audio files. Windows 98SE users MUST install this driver to download the images, videos, and audio files. Insert the supplied CD software into the CD-ROM drive. The CD should auto run. If the CD does not auto run, go to Start → Run and type in “d:\setup.exe” (where D:\ is the CD-ROM drive). The Installer Menu will appear: 1. Press “Digital Camera Driver” 2. Insert the smaller USB connector in the USB port of your CAMERA 3. Insert the larger USB connector in the USB port on your computer. 4. Now the CAMERA is BUS-powered. This means the USB port provides the CAMERA with power as soon as it is connected to the computer and switches it on automatically. 5. The computer/operating system recognizes the CAMERA as a new unknown device. You are then requested to install the appropriate driver. If your computer ask for driver location, you need to select the CD-ROM. 6. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation of the driver for still pictures. 21 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Software: 1. Press “Image Editing Software”. 2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete installing of the software. The software installation will be in the order of the menu above. 3. On the license agreem ent screen, click “Yes” to accept license agreement to continue setup. 6. Enter your registration information and serial number and then click “Next”. The serial number will be labeled on the CD cover. 7. Chose the destination location of where you’d like to install the software and click “Next”. 8. Click “Next” on the select program folder screen. 9. Confirm the setting before copfing files. Click “Next” to transfer files if it is correct. 10. 11. The setup progress bar will appear, please wait until the bar disappears to proceed. Installation completed. Click “Finish” to quit. Make sure the camera’s power is OFF. 2. Connect the small end of the USB cable to the USB port on the camera. 3. Connect the larger end of the USB cable to the USB port on the computer. 4. The camera’s red LED will light to indicate PC-connection, the computer will detect a new hardware, and display the following message: “New Hardware Found, COACH DSC, Mass Storage Driver“. 5. For Windows 98SE users If this is the first time connection, follow the on-screen instructions to install the hardware drivers. Wait until the hardware driver completely installs before downloading files. How to Connect to the TV 1. Make sure the camera’s power is OFF. 2. Connect the single-ended AV cable (optional) to the TV-out port on the camera, and connect the color-coded double-ended cable to the AV port on the TV (white to white, yellow to yellow). 3. Refer to “How to Playback Image/Video on a TV“ on page 15 to playback images/videos on the TV screen. 25 Downloaded from www.Manualslib.com manuals search engine Downloading Files The Digital Camera supports mass storage function, which means that the camera connects directly to the computer to transfer the files without using a third party application or installing a TWAIN driver. However, only the newer versions of Windows operating systems (2000/ME/XP) support mass storage feature. If using a Windows 98SE operating system, install the mass storage driver first. How to Download Files to a PC For Windows 98SE/2000/ME Users 1. Connect the camera to the computer. Refer to the “Making Connections“ section on page 25. 2. The computer will detect a hardware device. 3. Double-click to open “My Computer“ (located on the desktop) → “Removable Drive (E:\)“ (where E:\ is the removable drive of the computer) → “DCIM“ → “100ICAM“. 4. Two methods to download the files: “Copy & Paste“ or “Drag & Drop“. To Copy & Paste • Highlight the desired files and right-click on the mouse. • Select “Copy“ from short-cut menu. • Go to the location to save the files and right-click on the mouse again. • Select “Paste“ from the short-cut menu. To Drag & Drop • Highlight the desired files, left-click and hold down the mouse button. • Drag the files to the desired location, and release the left button. For Windows XP users 1. Connect the camera to the computer. Refer to the “Making Connections“ section on page 25. 2. Upon connection, Windows Wizard will appear. Select “Play“, “Find, Fix, and Share Photos“, “Transfer videos and create album“, “Open folder to view files“, or “Take no action“. Power ON the camera by sliding the lens cover to the left. 2. Connect the camera to the computer. Refer to the “Making connections” section on page 25. 3. Start the Ulead Photo Express 4.0 software as follows: Start à Programme à Ulead Photo Express 4.0 SEà Ulead Photo Expr ess 4.0 SE 4. Connect the CAMERA to your PC using the provided USB cable. 5. You will now see that a new drive "Removable Disc" has been created on the left and then select it. 6. Double click on the folder and then all image files stored in the camera will appear on the screen. ( [Removable Drive] :\ DCIM \100_icam) How to Download MP3 Music to the Camera 1. Power ON the camera by sliding the lens cover to the left. 2. Connect the camera to the PC with the supplied USB cable. Refer to ”Making Connections” on page 25. 3. Double-click to open “My Computer” located on the desktop ˆ ”Removable Disc” ˆ “MP3” folder. 4. Use Copy & Paste or Drag & Drop to download MP3 files. Note: (1) The internal memory has 16MB. Any image, video or audio file saved on the internal memory will consume space. (2) When the MP3 file is transferring to the camera, the Red LED will flash continuously. You will see the file is completely transferred to the camera in the screen but the Red LED is still flashing. Do not disconnect the USB cable until the Red LED stop flashing. In sandy locations such as beaches or deserts, or in locations where there is wind borne sand, make sure that the camera is well shielded from sand or dust. Avoid Condensation: If the camera is exposed to areas of sudden transition from cold places to warm place, water droplets (condensation) may form on the inside of the camera or on the lens. Possible cause The batteries are discharged. Solution Replace the batteries with freshly charged ones. The batteries are inserted incorrectly. Check the battery orientation.
