VJ-1614 INSTALLATION MANUAL 1 VJ1614E-I-00 VJ-1614 INSTALLATION MANUAL 1 Unpacking boxes 2 Confirming bundled items Procedures for unpacking boxes are explained. After unpacking, please confirm that the product has not damaged and no components are missing. This product is packaged separately, divided into the printer and the stand. CAUTION Make sure to unpack this product with four persons or more. While taking out the printer from the box, make sure to remove the vinyl sheet and hold the handles on the printer side. Carry the box to where you will unpack it. 2. Open the box and take out the components. Remove the two transfer stays and fasten the printer to the stand using eight butterfly screws. 4. Fasten the connector bar to the left stand in the same way as in Step 3. 1 CAUTION Four or more people are required to assemble this printer. 2 Front 3 3.1 1 Procedure for assembling the stand 2 1 3 3 2 2 3 Follow the procedure below to assemble the stand. 1. Follow the procedure below to assemble the right stand. a. Attach the waste fluid tank holder to the right stand using four screws. b. Tighten two hexagon socket head cap screws using a hexagonal wrench. 3 b. Attach the waste fluid tube to the tank. c. Shake the stand to make sure that each part is firmly attached. 2 3.2 Follow the procedure below to attach the stand to the printer. No. 1 2 3 1. Open the left maintenance cover, then place the tray. 3 Front No. 1 2 Detaching fastening materials 2. Insert the two transfer stays into the right and left transfer brackets, lift the printer with four or more people and place it on the stand. 3. Fasten the connector bar to the right stand using two hexagon socket head cap screws. Install on a level floor which meets the following condition. 4.1 5 Connecting the power cable Installation space This section explains how to connect the power cable. It has enough strength to support the weight of the printer and the stand. Installation environment WARNING Make sure that the included power cable is used. If other power cables are used, it may cause an electric shock or fire. NOTE Install this product to the appropriate place with reference to the following. For the weight of the printer and the stand, refer to the Operation Manual. Do not use a damaged power cable. It may cause an electric shock or fire. WARNING Do not install the printer in the following places where there is a possibility that the printer may be damaged or might fall or be fallen by chance. On a shaky stand Slanting location Places where vibration of other machines etc. is transmitted. Do not stamp on the printer or do not place heavy things on top of it. The printer may be damaged or might fall or be fallen by chance. Cover the printer with blanket and cloth like tablecloth and do not close the vent. If the vent is closed, the printer could accumulate heat inside and may cause fire. Do not install the printer in a location that has high humidity or is dusty. Confirm that the product is turned OFF. c b f 4.2 Follow the steps below to connect the power cable. d g NOTE If the [Power] key is pressed, the product is turned ON. Press the key again, and turn OFF the power. e = 1,550 mm f = 3,800 mm g = 2,700 mm Installation procedure Install this product to the installation place in accordance with the list shown below. 1. Carry the printer to the installation place. 2. Turn the following adjusters in the direction as shown below to prevent the printer from moving. Stands: adjusters (4) 2. Set the spirit level on the right and left platens and adjust so that the printer stays flat. Temperature: 20 °C to 32 °C Humidity: 40 % to 60 %, No Condensation 2 No. Name 1 AC inlet 3. Correctly insert the power cable plug into the power socket. NOTE Temperature: within 2 °C per hour Humidity: within 5 % per hour To use the two power cables plugged in the inlets, a total capacity of 17 A or over is required. There is a possibility that the print quality will be affected. Places where temperature or humidity may rapidly change, even though within the required conditions. Places that receive direct sunlight, increased illumination or direct air, for example from an air conditioner. Confirm that the waste fluid valve is closed. 1 No. Name 1 Waste fluid valve 4 No. Name 1 Power cable VJ-1614 INSTALLATION MANUAL 6 Turning the power ON/OFF 7 Installing the ink cartridge This section explains how to turn ON/OFF the printer. This section explains how to install ink cartridges. 6.1 Follow the steps below to install ink cartridges. Turning the power ON Follow the procedure below to turn ON the printer. 6. Press the [Enter] key on the operation panel. 1. Turn ON the product. The product starts initial operation. 1. Press the [Power] key on the operation panel to turn ON the printer. After the initial operation is complete, "Start Ink Charge- > E" is displayed on the operation panel. 2. Press the [Enter] key on the operation panel. "Insert InkCartridges" is displayed on the operation panel. 7. Take out the ink cartridges from the bag and shake it gently two to three times before installing. Slots for ink cartridges are specified depending on colors of the ink cartridges. Match the mark on each slot with the color of the ink cartridge. The Power lamp on the operation panel lights up in green. The printer starts initial operation. When the initial operation is complete, the printer enters normal status. 6.2 Turning the power OFF "Insert Cleaning Cart." is displayed on the operation panel. 3. Take out the cleaning cartridges from the bag. 4. Install the cleaning cartridges into the ink cartridge slots. Follow the procedure below to turn OFF the printer. Install the cleaning cartridges with to the front side of the printer. 1. Regarding the operating condition of the printer, confirm the following. Printing or other operations are not in progress. The operation panel is in normal status. The head height adjustment lever is lowered. mark facing The Power lamp on the operation panel turns OFF. Remove the cleaning cartridges. 1 The operation panel displays "Power Off". NOTE If the head height adjustment lever is raised, the operation panel displays "Change Head Gap Low". Lower the head height adjustment lever. After the cleaning fluid is filled, "Remove Cartridges" is displayed on the operation panel. The printer starts operating to turn the power OFF. 1 1 3 mark facing to the Insert the cartridges all the way to the end of the slot. Insert the cleaning cartridges all the way to the end of the slot. 2. Press the [Power] key on the operation panel to turn OFF the printer. NOTE If the operation panel is in the following status, the power is ON. The [Power] key is pressed in. The Power lamp lights up in green. Press the key once again and turn OFF the power. Install the ink cartridges with front side of the printer. No. Name 1 Cleaning cartridge The ink replenishment takes about six minutes. Ink filling operation and pause operation are repeated during the ink replenishment. When "100%" is displayed, the ink replenishment is complete. NOTE Do not perform the following operations during ink filling. Do not turn the printer OFF. Do not unplug the power cable. Do not open the front cover. Do not raise the media loading lever. After the ink replenishment is complete, "SubTank Refill **%" is displayed on the operation panel and Subtank Refill starts. When "100%" is displayed, the Subtank refill is complete. "During washing" is displayed on the operation panel, and the printer starts Head washing. After the Head washing is complete, "Wash retry? No" is displayed on the operation panel. NOTE When cleaning the print head again before ink filling, select "Yes" to press [+] key or [-] key on the operation panel. Then press [Enter] key and clean the print head. The printer automatically turns the power OFF. 5 After the Subtank refill is complete, "Media End" is displayed on the operation panel. NOTE If the Nozzle check printing is performed immediately after the ink replenishment is complete, the following results may occur. Printed line becomes blurred. Printing partially. In such cases, follow the Operation Manual "6.2.3 Head cleaning" and charge a small amount of ink. Then, check the printing result. If there is no improvement in the print result even after refilling a small amount of ink, leave the printer for one hour or more, and refill a small amount of ink again. If there is still no improvement, contact MUTOH local dealer. VJ1614E-I-00 VJ-1614 INSTALLATION MANUAL 7. Raise the media loading lever. 8 Loading the roll media 12. If the distance between the edge of the roll media and the pressurizing roller is less than 5 mm, follow the procedure below to adjust the position of the roll media. This section describes how to load roll media. Place the roll media in the center of the printer. a. Loosen the fixing levers of the right and left roll media holders, and move the roll media to the right or left. 1 Follow the steps below to load roll media. 1. Loosen the fixing levers of the right and left roll media holders, and stretch the levers wider than the width of the roll media. No. Name 1 Media loading lever b. After moving the roll media, tighten the fixing levers. "Lever Up" is displayed on the operation panel. 1 4 NOTE 8. No. Name No. Name 1 Roll media 2 Media feed slot 1 10. Pull the roll media approximately 1 m out of the media feed slot, which is inside the front cover. 3. Attach the right roll media holder to the roll media and tighten the fixing lever. 3 No. Name No. Name 1 Roll media 2 Media feed slot 11. While holding the front end of the roll media, wind the media back for a short distance by turning the flanges of the roll media holders so that the media is not slack or slanted. Make sure that the right end of the roll media does not go beyond the media loading mark. This product includes the following three manuals. 1. Turn ON the printer and load the roll media. 8 Loading the roll media Installation Manual (this manual) This manual explains the procedures of unpacking, installing, and the basic set up. 2. Confirm that the printer functions normally. Quick Reference 3. Press the [<] key on the operation panel for two seconds or more. Quick Reference is excerpts of functions used daily. Operation Manual (CD-ROM) The Operation Manual explains the basic installation, daily use and applicable functions. TIP The Operation Manual of this product is created with the HTML format and can be viewed using browsers such as Internet Explorer. Refer to Quick Reference "5.5 Using Operation Manual CD" for viewing the Operation Manual. Nozzle check printing starts. 4. Check the sample print for blurred or missing parts in the check pattern. 5. If the nozzle check result indicates that there is a problem such as mentioned above in the check pattern, clean the head. Press and hold the [Cleaning] key on the operation panel for two seconds or more. "Cleaning **%" is displayed on the operation panel. 6. Head cleaning starts. NOTE If one time of head cleaning was not enough to remove blurred or missing parts in the check pattern, perform powerful cleaning. If those problems above were not improved after a few times of head cleaning, refer to the Operation Manual "7 Troubleshooting" and perform required procedures. 7.
