VoIP headset connectivity quick reference guide Wired Headsets Nortel IP 1140 Handset Telephone headset sockets Headset types There are two types of headsets that can be used with VoIP phones. These headsets use one of the two types of connectors pictured below. The connectors fit into the appropriate headset socket on the phone. USB The picture above shows the location of the two socket types, USB and RJ9. RJ9 (Wired) This picture shows the detail of the RJ9 wired headset socket position. RMIT University ITS Telephony V1.01 Page 1 VoIP headset connectivity quick reference guide Headset configuration Headsets must be configured to operate with the 1140E and 1150E telephones according to the connection type. To configure a headset, connect the headset and then follow the appropriate section below according to the type of headset connection: Wired headsets: 1. Press the Services key twice in quick succession. 2. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight Preferences and press the Enter key. 3. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight Headsets and press the Enter key. 4. Use the Left and Right navigation keys to highlight the Active Headset Device field and press the Enter key. 5. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight the ‘Wired’ headset type and then press the Enter key. 6. Press the Select soft key to save the changes and exit or press the Cancel soft key to exit without saving the changes. USB headsets: 1. Press the Services key twice in quick succession. 2. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight Preferences and press the Enter key. 3. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight Headsets and press the Enter key. 4. Use the Left and Right navigation keys to highlight the Active Headset Device field and press the Enter key. 5. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight the ‘USB’ headset type and press the Enter key. 6. If the Active Headset Device is USB: ⋅ Use the Right navigation key to highlight the Enable HID Commands checkmark box and press Enter to enable the option. ⋅ Use the Right navigation key to highlight the Headset Type field and press the Enter key. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight installed headset type and press Enter. ⋅ If the Headset Type is Nortel Mobile Kit use the Right navigation key to highlight the Back Light field and press the Enter key to enable the option. 7. Press the Select soft key to save the changes and exit or press the Cancel soft key to exit without saving the changes. For other headset usage instructions refer to the headset manufacturer’s documentation via www.rmit.edu.au/staff/it/telephony/headsets. Page 2 V1.01 Note: Due to the possibility of interference from other radio sources, the use of Bluetooth headsets is not supported. Connecting 1140E telephones can be configured with a preference for Headsets or Handsfree operation when the extension line key is used to originate or to answer a call. Set this preference as follows: 1. 2. Press the Services key once. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight Telephone Options and press the Enter key. Use the Up and Down navigation keys to highlight On hook default path and press the Enter key. Set your preference to either Handsfree enabled or Headset enabled. 3. 4. Services Many other telephone preferences can also be set via the Services menu. 1. Press Services key. 2. Use Navigation keys to highlight Telephone Options. 3. Press the Enter key. Use the Navigation keys to move up and down the list. Options are: - 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Volume adjustment Contrast adjustment Language Date/Time Display diagnostics Local Dialpad Tone Set Info Diagnostics - Call Log Options Ring type Call timer On hook default path Change FeatureKey label Name Display Format Live Dial Pad Press the Enter key to choose the highlighted option. Follow the screen prompts to make the adjustment. Press the Enter key to save the changes. Press the Cancel soft key to exit without saving any changes. Press the Quit key to exit.
