Operating Instructions Waffle Maker Models: FWM250 General care and safety guide Thank you for choosing this GOLDAIR Waffle Maker. This GOLDAIR appliance has been designed and manufactured to high standards of engineering and with proper use and care, as described in this leaflet, will give you years of useful service. Please read these instructions carefully and keep them safely for future reference. ALWAYS ✔ Always ensure hands are dry before handling the plug or the Waffle Maker. ✔ Always operate the Waffle Maker in the middle of a secure, dry, level surface. ✔Always place some heat-resistant material under the Waffle Maker. ✔ Always allow adequate air space above and on all sides for air circulation. Do not allow the Waffle Maker to touch curtains, wall coverings, clothing, dishtowels or other flammable materials during use. Do not use under cupboards or curtains. ✔ Always be sure to set to ‘off’ and unplug from the socket when not in use and before cleaning. ✔ Always allow the Waffle Maker to cool before cleaning and storing. ✔ Carry out regular checks of the supply cord to ensure no damage is evident. ✔ Return the Waffle Maker after a malfunction, or if it has been damaged in any manner, to an authorised electrical service technician for examination, repair or adjustment as special purpose tools are required. ✔ Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. ✔ The temperature of accessible surfaces may be high when the appliance is operating; always exercise caution. Use oven mitts when handling hot materials. ✔ Always use only heat resistant wooden or plastic utensils to remove waffles from the unit. Other utensils may damage the non-stick coating. WARNING: This appliance generates heat and escaping steam during use. Proper precautions must be taken to prevent the risk of burns, fires, or other injury to persons or damage to property. This appliance is fitted with non-slip rubber feet. Furniture is often coated with various varnishes and synthetic substances and treated with a number of different preservative agents. Some of these products may contain substances that corrode and soften the rubber feet. The feet may then discolour the surface. If necessary place a non-slip mat under the appliance. Such cleaners may damage the non-stick coating. ✘ Never operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug, after it malfunctions, or if it has been damaged in any manner. Have the appliance checked and repaired buy a qualified electrician if repair is necessary. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. ✘ The Waffle Maker is not intended to be operated by means of an external timer or separate remote-control system. The use of an extension cord is not recommended. ✘ Never use metal scouring pads for cleaning. Small metal pieces can come loose and cause short-circuiting of electrical components, which can cause electric shock or damage the appliance. WARNING: To prevent the risk of electric shock this appliance is equipped with a plug for a grounded electrical outlet that only fits in a matching wall outlet. If the plug dos not fit, contact a qualified electrician for assistance. Never attempt to change the plug yourself. To reduce the risk of electric shock or fire do not attempt to disassemble the power base. There are no components included that could be useful separately. Repairs only by approved professionals. Components Before First Use IMPORTANT: Before using for the first time, operate the appliance without batter in order to burn off residues on the Cooking Plates. Before use and when heating up the waffle iron for the first time, a slight odour may occur, which is harmless. Provide adequate ventilation. CAUTION: To avoid burns, caution should be taken when handling the Waffle Maker. 1. 2. Carefully unpack Waffle Maker and remove all packaging and materials. Wipe all surfaces with a slightly damp, soft cloth. Never immerse in water. 3. To burn off residues on the Cooking Plates, it will be necessary to operate the unit for a few minutes before initial use. Do not add batter or oil during this time. 4. Fold the lid down (without batter). 5. Insert plug into an grounded electrical outlet. The red indicator light shows that the waffle iron is energized and heating. The green indicator will NOT glow until the selected temperature is reached. 6. Slide the temperature control to level 5. 7. After 10 minutes slide the temperature control to level 1. 8. Remove the plug from the wall socket and unfold the waffle iron. 9. Allow the appliance to cool. 10. When completely cooled, wipe the waffle plates with a damp cloth. Care and cleaning CONDITIONING COOKING PLATES The Cooking Plates should be conditioned before each use, and following each cleaning. To condition, lightly coat the Cooking Plates with solid vegetable shortening. DO NOT USE SPRAY-ON OIL PRODUCTS. To protect the premium quality non-stick Cooking Plates, use only plastic, nylon or wooden utensils. Carefully follow suggested cleaning procedures. After a time, if waffles show signs of sticking, recondition your unit. CLEANING CAUTION: Unplug from electrical outlet and allow to cool thoroughly before cleaning. Never immerse appliance in water or other liquids. Brush Cooking Plates with clean, soft pastry brush or cloth. Do not use steel wool or coarse scouring pads. Remove stubborn stains with a plastic mesh puff or pad. For best results, use only products with directions stating that it is safe for cleaning non-stick cooking surfaces. The exterior finish should be cleaned with a non-abrasive cleaner and a soft, damp cloth: dry thoroughly. After cleaning, close latch and wrap cord around the cord storage tabs. STORAGE Unplug unit and allow to cool. Never store Waffle Maker while it is hot or still plugged in. Never wrap cord tightly around appliance. Do not put any stress on cord where it enters unit, as this could cause cord to fray and break. Operating Your Waffle Maker Before using the waffle iron, read this entire manual and all safety warnings and cautions which appear throughout this manual. 4. In this electric waffle maker the batter is simultaneously baked on both sides between the heated waffle plates. The degree of browning of the waffles can be adjusted by setting the temperature control. 5. The mixture of the batter also influences the waffle results. 6. Where applicable, use a brush and a little cooking oil to slightly grease the waffle plates. 1. 2. 3. Close the waffle iron and insert the plug in a grounded wall socket. The red indicator light shines and shows that the appliance is connected to power. Slide the temperature control to the desired setting, typically from level 3 to level 5. The red indicator light shines and indicates that the appliance is 7. heating up. As soon as the chosen temperature has been reached, the green indicator light will glow. The 8. appliance is now ready for use. Now open the waffle iron and pour enough batter into the middle of the 9. lower waffle plate halves for it to spread out to within about 2 cm from the edge. If you wish to bake two waffles simultaneously, pour as near as possible equal amounts into the two waffle plate halves in order to obtain an even result. Close the waffle iron. Briefly afterwards the green indicator light will turn off. The waffle iron is now baking. As soon as the green indicator lamp lights up again, open the waffle iron and check whether the waffles are cooked and brown enough. If the waffles are not quite ready or not brown enough, let them bake a moment longer. When the waffles are ready, open up the waffle iron and take out the waffles by lifting one side slightly with a heatresistant wooden or plastic utensil and then removing them with a spatula. If the waffles are too dark, select a correspondingly lower setting on the temperature control for the next batch of waffles or shorten the baking time accordingly. After a couple of waffles, you will have found the setting that is exactly right for the way you like your waffles. Now that the appliance is heated up, you can pour in the batter for the next waffles immediately. After use, remove the plug from the wall socket and let the appliance cool fully before cleaning. After the appliance has cooled, clean it as described in the chapter "Care and Cleaning". During this period, such defects will be rectified by repair or replacement of the product purchased. Your product contains no user serviceable components and this warranty becomes invalid if in our opinion the product has been misused, abused, incorrectly installed, tampered with, connected to an electrical supply not corresponding with the name plate specification, or subjected to power surges. The warranty does not include any labour or other associated expense that may be involved in removal or installation of the product. Normal wear and tear is expressly excluded. If the product is to be replaced (cannot be repaired) then that replacement will be of the same or similar product or accessory excluding packaging, instruction card etc. Where a replacement product is supplied, this shall be guaranteed for the balance of the original warranty period. If your Goldair product fails to operate satisfactorily, please return it to the retailer from whom it was purchased. To obtain a repair or replacement product under this warranty, you will need to produce satisfactory evidence of date of purchase. The completed warranty and purchase receipt must be presented with the product. The warranty should be filled out at the time of purchase. It is in your interest to make sure this is done. Consumers Guarantee Act (1993). Any model that is no longer available will be replaced by a model of a value and with such features as we consider appropriate in the circumstances. Goldair Ltd is not responsible for freight forwarding charges, losses or damage in transit. If service is required after the warranty period has expired, the product should be returned to a qualified electrical technician. Service outside of the warranty period will be at your cost. In accordance with the above act consumers are advised that: The manufacturer does not undertake that repair facilities and parts are necessarily available for this product. If any of the provisions of the foregoing are contrary to any relevant legislation, then that provision shall be deemed to be excluded from the warranty and the rest of the provisions will continue to apply.
